Welcome

Hello Strongbad1982 and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad you've chosen to join us. This is a great project with lots of dedicated people, which might seem intimidating at times, but don't let anything discourage you. Be bold!, explore, and contribute. Try to be civil by following simple guidelines and signing your talk comments with ~~~~ but never forget that one of our central tenets is to ignore all rules.

If you want to learn more, Wikipedia:Tutorial is the place to go, but eventually the following links might also come in handy:

Float around until you find something that tickles your fancy. One easy way to do this is to hit the random page button in the navigation bar to the left. Additionally, the Community Portal offers a more structured way to become acquainted with the many great committees and groups that focus on specific tasks. My personal favorite stomping grounds are Wikipedia:Translation into English as well as the cleanup, welcoming, and counter-vandalism committees. Finally, the Wikimedia Foundation has several other wiki projects that you might enjoy. If you have any more questions, always feel free to ask me anything on my talk page. Climate for Oregon cities

edit

Thanks for your work adding climate info to Salem, Eugene, and Portland. Do you have any citations for that info? Thanks! Katr67 (talk) 17:53, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I was also thinking in terms of the climate area info, judging by the maps, like the one in Oceanic climate, some parts of Oregon don't fit neatly into categories, so I think it is a bit more subjective? Any cites you have on that would be great. Thanks again. Katr67 (talk) 18:44, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Unless you feel the listing of Western Oregon in the Oceanic climate article is enough? I'm OK with that. Katr67 (talk) 18:46, 10 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Memphis, TN temperature chart

edit

The temperature chart is indeed useful information, and I thank you for adding it. However, it is out of place on the main Memphis, TN article, as that article is using Wikipedia:Summary Style. The main Memphis page should only contain summaries of the information, while the detailed information should be moved to the various subpages. See WP:SS for guidelines on Summary Style. -- Otto 17:06, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nice pic of Thom Hartmann, and where should it go?

edit

Hi Strongbad. I was looking at the new pic of Thom Hartmann in his article. Seems like a great pic, illustrating the new TV program and his new clean shaven look. I am thinking that this pic would go well in the section that talks about his new TV program, and the original could be put back where it was, as he is best known by his radio program.

I see the copyright folks have come after it. Placing the new TV pic next to the TV program info would allow it to be used under Wikipedia policy, assuming it is a screen shot, redescribing it as one of his TV show, and (I believe) only using a low res version. Denver climate

edit

Hi - I understand your concern, but this edit strikes me as not very productive. As far as I can tell, 174.51.198.127 is trying to be responsive to your concerns. Rather than simply revert to your version is there any way you could build on his/her changes in an iterative fashion? You edit, he/she edits (without simply reverting), you edit, etc. until you're both reasonably happy. This is the "wikipedia way" (patent pending). Wholesale reverting generally just tends to escalate things. I suspect you know this already - and I apologize if this comes across as lecturing - but please don't just revert unless it's obvious vandalism. -- Rick Block (talk) 06:08, 6 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Talking good. Reverting bad. Any more reverts and I'll WP:PROTECT the article (and I don't give a fuck who's version is "live"). STOP REVERTING. -- Rick Block (talk) 06:51, 6 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

I am no longer reverting, I am editing the article as it changes to remove unsourced commentary and try to improve upon what had been there before commentary was added. Strongbad1982 (talk) 06:55, 6 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hmmm. This looks like a straight revert to me. Maybe you mean you won't revert again. Hogs555/174.51.198.127 seems to have stopped as well. I'm glad the reverting seems to have stopped. I'm glad there's discussion on the talk page. Again, at the risk of coming across as lecturing, have you read dispute resolution? It's actually quite good. I would suggest you consider adopting a personal rule of never reverting - i.e. NEVER, EVER, revert. Question sources, ruthlessly edit what others contribute, bring things up on talk pages - but simply don't revert. Reverting is a game both sides end up losing. This is great. Keep it up! -- Rick Block (talk) 07:45, 6 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Gabby Douglas, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Olympic (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Delaware zone map

There's a discussion of a map you created, File:Delaware2012ZoneMap.png, at Talk:Delaware#zone map. At present it's been removed from the article. I know nothing of the topic, but I thought that, as the contributor, you might want to join in.

Orphaned non-free media (File:TrainingTableLogo.JPG)

edit

Thanks for uploading File:TrainingTableLogo.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:12, 2 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Notification of automated file description generation

edit

Your upload of File:BBshopGoldMedal.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Your uploads of Barbershop photos

edit

Hi Strongbad1982,
I'm working on a project to improve the coverage of the Sweet Adelines International competition information and have, in the process, come across several of the images you've uploaded - such as File:MelodeersApr07.jpg, File:Pob2005intl.jpg, File:Cocdenver2007.jpg, File:VIH2008.jpg, File:Pob1994reg.jpg, File:TMDivisionContest.jpg etc. The full list of your uploads is logged here Special:ListFiles/Strongbad1982. All of these ones I've listed (and more) are thumbnail size, marked as being your "own work", being out of copyright (public domain), and generally also saying that they're from 2008 (even when the caption says something else). I think it's pretty obvious that these files were actually just copied off websites and re-uploaded here, and therefore according to our policies they should be deleted. I realise that this was 6 years ago that you uploaded them (sometimes even earlier) so back then you mightn't have known this wasn't supposed to be done. So I thought that rathe than just go through and tag them for deletion en-mass (which would be the first you'd hear about it!) I thought I'd first say 'hello' and introduce myself and tell you about my project too :-) (perhaps you'd be interested in helping me on the SAI work when I'm ready to make it 'live'?). As for the images - would you like me to tag them for deletion as per the official process or, would you prefer to tag them yourself - which would make it a faster process as an 'uploader's request'? All the best, Wittylama 12:44, 3 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi again. It's been a month, so I've gone and nominated them all for deletion myself. See Wikipedia:Files_for_deletion/2015_March_1. Sincerely, Wittylama 20:13, 1 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Just as a courtesy call - these files have now all been deleted. Sorry. Wittylama 14:47, 12 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for File-Awmapworld.PNG

edit

Regarding source for File-Awmapworld.PNG.

Hello User Strongbad1982, Thanks for creating this map. Regarding source for this Aw zone map, the map does not list the source for the data, like a book or other publication, which the map maker had used to find out which areas belong to that particular climate zone.(This map has been uploaded by bot to Wikimedia Commons & the link listed there in source takes to the home page of English Wikipedia). The Copyright already shows as PD. The tag-File has no source is now reverted. Please add the source for the map. Thanks once again, By 2know4power (talk) 05:27, 24 November 2015 (UTC).Reply

File source problem with File:Dundalkshipshouse.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Dundalkshipshouse.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Also:

ATTENTION: This is an automated, BOT-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate your file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 03:00, 25 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
