Attack templates

edit

I have deleted Template:User vandalist under speedy criteria T1 - templates which are divisive or inflamatory. Personal attacks are not welcome on the site no matter how frustrated you get with vandals, simply revert block and ignore. Additionally you incorporated a fair use image into the template, fair use rationale are for use within specific articles within the mainspace only. Inclusion in templates is inappropriate since the rationale cannot cover all the uses of the templates, and if fair use cannot be used at all within user space. --pgk 21:09, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please reconsider wording

edit

With regards to your comments on User talk:Pgk: Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on contributors; personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that continued personal attacks may lead to blocks for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. Navou banter / review me 21:15, 4 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

"But, it is really frustrating to see idiots loitering around this place" Forgive me if I mis-interpreted, it sounded like you were calling other editors "idiots". You are free to remove this message from your talk page in its entirety if you have no questions. Regards, Navou banter / review me 12:15, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I understand your frustration with vandals, but a few observations:
  • Some vandalism is actually just genuine mistakes, greeting such with overly aggressive/abusive messages is unacceptable and drives good users away
  • Some vandals are just looking for a reaction, by reacting strongly you are just actually encouraging them
  • Some people start out and do some minor vandalism, they later reform and become valued contributors and in cases I know admins. Getting abusive with them is unlikely to help.
  • Our purpose here is to build an encyclopedia, vandalism is just an unfortunate side effect, if you find your self getting stressed by it, then it's best to take a break - wikipedia is not a battleground

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Darkwingquack.gif)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Darkwingquack.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.
