Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Ryan Giggs, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Mattythewhite (talk) 01:00, 15 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Ryan Giggs

edit

Hi, year or season ranges than span from one century into another ought to have the latter year written in full, as per WP:DATERANGE. It is to dispel any ambiguity as to what the year is. You can see an example of how 1999–2000 is commonly used is at Template:1999–2000 in English football. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 23:39, 17 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Stevo, I noticed your comment on Matty's talk page. I think you're getting centuries and millennia mixed up; 1999 and 2000 are in the same millennium but different centuries, while 2000 and 2001 are in the same century but different millennia. To be honest, I don't get it either. As for the year formats in the Ryan Giggs article, the reason we write 1999-2000 is because they start with different numbers. If we wrote 1999-00, some people might think we meant 1999-1900 - it would be pretty illogical to assume that, but it makes sense to be sure. – PeeJay 11:47, 29 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
