Erythrovirus

Hi Steven, I have no objections to your moving this article back to Parvovirus B19. But, please leave the name "Erythrovirus" somewhere in the first line or two of the Lead so the Google algorithm can still pick it up quickly. It was a valuable discusion we had i.m.h.o. Best wishes. Re: Your comments on the Flagged Revs trial

Hi Steven. I saw your comment on the FlaggedRevs trial about you not remembering any near bloodshed on WN when FR was introduced. I can only assume you were not in #wikinews & #wikinews-en that night, or you would know about it. I certainly remember threatening to quit if it was introduced, and at least one, maybe 2 (I can't be certain) other AR's threatened similar responses unless we were all allowed Editor status on there. It never came to pass, thankfully, we all got editor status, but still. IMHO, flagged revs is a dreadful idea which should be left where it was first used, on de.wikipedia. What works for one, may not for another :) Thanks for the comments anyway. Nice to see you on WP, I only ever encountered you on WN previously... See you round! Osteitis fibrosa cystica could use your help!

Strombollii from the Wikipedia:WikiProject AP Biology 2008 could really use your help on his current project: Osteitis fibrosa cystica. He has had trouble finding suitable information (in both verifiability and quantity) for the topic and is relatively unfamiliar to the style and formating for medicine articles on Wikipedia. As a friend, I told him I would gladly message those who I respected as fellow wiki-editors and who I believed could add to his medicine related article. You, of course (from your help and critizim in Osteochondritis dissecans), were one of my choices. So if you can spare the time, I am sure your help would be much appreciated. Again, thank you for your own help in my article... without you and several other editors, I would have never made GA. Cheers! FoodPuma 23:45, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Dear Steven,

Thankyou for your contributions to the article that we have been editing. I must first apologise as our identity is not 'Dr. Mahinda.' Rather, we are 3 students carrying out a small project on wikipedia to improve a sparse medical article.

We would like to ask you to refrain from reverting our changes until after Friday. While we realise we have both managed to improve the article, and you have good knowledge on the subject, we need to highlight what we have added to the article and therefore if it keeps changing and improving this becomes difficult.

We are looking forward to your response.

Hi Steve, I replied on the talk page, would like your views on my views so to speak :+-) Talk:Fluoroquinolone_toxicity#NPOV_and_neologism_issues.--Literaturegeek | T@1k? 17:19, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

I made some changes to the Fluoroquinolone toxicity article and also replied on the talk page of the article. I added an epidemiology section which still needs work done to it. I think that an epidemiology section really is the only way that we can resolve the concern of keeping the frequency of adverse reactions in context. Of course the debate will always be there about misdiagnosis of symptomatology though but I am sure with discussion and both sides of the literature being cited the editors of the page can come to some sort of a compromise and achieve a neutral article.--Literaturegeek | T@1k? 20:37, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

Basal cell carcinoma

Hi Stevenfruitsmaak,

The Wikipedia entry on the treatment of basal cell carcinoma is unbalanced. I get a regular reminder from my professional insurance company that any suspicious skin lesion needs to be at least biopsed and sent for histology. I know that every other doctor treating these is getting the same advice. If there is a lesion on the skin thought to be a basal cell carcinoma then a dermatoscope adds nothing as it still has to be cut out and sent for histology. My big concern with the Wikipedia entry on BCC's is the advertorial it contains for Mohs surgery. This is an expensive procedure used on a tiny percentage of BCC's that hasn't been shown to have any advantage over standard surgical excision.

regards Nicholas Cooper —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nickcoop (talkcontribs) 09:27, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Nick, thanks to you, we now have found two randomized trial for Mohs surgery. And an open invitation for others to join a third study (if they are dumb enough to subject to a substandard method). To me, I still believe it is unethical to conduct such a trial. But it is happening in third world countries everyday being imposed on them by Western researchers. The argument you made about dermatoscope is the same one being made by the 4 out of 5 dermatologists in the US why they shouldn't have to learn to use one. I am surprised, as I thought that GP's in New Zealand were quite good at skin cancer diagnosis, and would never argue against the application of dermatoscopy. The role of dermatoscopy is to decrease cost - reduce unnecessary surgery, and reduce recurrences and repeat surgery. Exactly your whole point of why Mohs surgery should not be used!--Northerncedar (talk) 14:39, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Please look at Nickcoop's edits of Mohs surgery and basal cell cancer again

I appreciate his inputs, but he is trying to push his personal belief by misquoting the randomized study I presented in the Mohs Surgery page, and quoting his own opinion as the authors (they said MMS is recommended for the face, he said they recommended standard excision for bccs of the face).

Then he is trying to move content explaining how standard excision is done compared to margin controlled surgery (which Mohs is one method) to the Mohs section. And claimingg it to be Mohs propaganda.

We really need the input of a pathologist here - so that he doesn't feel that we are badgering him. --Northerncedar (talk) 19:15, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

From the desk of David Fuller

Steve, let us start over here as this is starting to get rather stupid and counter productive. First off I am not the least bit angry or upset with you. As a physician, you have a particular point of view, (ok, not a physician yet but close enough for goverment work) and I as a patient who's life had been utterly destroyed by these drugs have another. The are like oil and water. They will never mix.

I believe that I had cited every statement of importance in the article. You may not agree with the citations, you may find them to be of poor quality or whatever, but I did make an honest effort to cite to the statements made, as a basis for the development of the article. I have a database of well over 4000 such citations that go all the way back to 1962. I have read each and every one of them over the years. I have been researching this since 1999. That is almost a decade, perhaps even longer than you have been studying medicine.

I have written and published a number of articles and editorials, I have presented evidence to members of Congress, I provided the research that was used to support the petitions filed that resulted in the Black Box Warnings, I have been involved in litigation regarding these drugs as an expert witness, I run a non profit foundation that does nothing but research and attempts to bring this to the public's attention, this list is endless. So why would you consider me to be ignorant regarding these drugs?

It was NOT my intent that the article remain as posted. This was NOTHING more than a rough draft, a template if you will, that would need a tremendous amount of work to bring to fruitation. I gave notice right from the beginning that it would NO DOUBT be bias to a degree and require the help of others to bring it into compliance. As such I was not going to waste a tremendous amount of time researching and using the best possible citations I have available on a rough draft.

But rather than suggest changes in a nuetral tone and help with the article you start out by first attacking the article and then attacking me. Why? Perhaps you lacked any knowledge concerning the severity of these reactions and thought these reactions to be bullocks. Perhaps you think of me as a nutcase. For whatever reason all this did was start a pissing contest.

So let us start over here. I am NOT attempting to use wikipedia as a soapbox. I am NOT trying to present false and misleading data, ALL I am attempting to do here is describe a syndrome that is associated with these drugs within an article. Nothing more, nothing less. There is more than enough precedence to use the word "SYNDROME" to describe this. See the Stockholm syndrome as an example. This did NOT start out as a medical description. The term "Stockholm Syndrome" was coined by the criminologist and psychiatrist Nils Bejerot, who assisted the police during the robbery, and referred to the syndrome in a news broadcast. In fact at this very moment there is an article entitled "Stockholm syndrome" on wikipedia, and nobody is going ballistic about its title, in the manner that you have regarding this title.

The term "fluoroquinolone toxicity syndrome" has been in use since the late nineties by those who have suffered from this. It is not something that liteaturegeek coined a few months ago. There are many other examples of a syndrome being used to describe a medical condition long before the medical community sanctioned its use in that particular case. Hence there is citable documentation that this term is in use today. It may not be medical citations, but they are citations none the less. It can be proven to be a fact that people who suffer from this condition have referred to it as "fluoroquinolone toxicity syndrome".

Perhaps this is where you and I are having such a problem here. I think you are viewing this as a peer reviewed article to be submitted to a leading medical journal. And as such you are setting standards that do not apply here. I am viewing it as nothing more than an encyclopedia article that gathers the known facts and presents them as is.

As such I think you and I could possibly work together here if you would simply lighten up a bit and stop thinking of me as the enemy to be destroyed but rather as an equal who wishes to achive the same goal. Present an article that describes this syndrome in a fair manner.

You have asked for citations, so I have to ask have you visited the foundations site? www.fqresearch.org Have you viewed the more than 4000 citations dealing with these issues to be found there? If not, why not? It is the LARGEST medical library in the WORLD dealing with these issues. It has even been cited to within medical journal entries over the years.

To make things easier for you look to the bottom left of the homepage of the site and you will see a heading called "References". There you will find a list of just about every citation found on that site sorted by category. Similar to a pubmed listing. Perhaps you should take a break from the article and spend a few hours going over these lists.

Then you and I will be on the same page here and perhaps we can then work together productively on this article rather than bicker back and forth fruitlessly. If after reviewing this information you still think I don't have a leg to stand on I will simply walk away and leave you in peace to work on the article as you see fit. Fair enough? But it is terribly unfair, unethical and unreasonable of you NOT to have reviewed this information that is so readily available to you before blasting away with both barrels as you have done.Davidtfull (talk) 04:30, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Adverse effects of fluoroquinolones/Fluoroquinolone toxicity

Hey Steve I agree completely with your comments about this article. This is junk science / fringe POV pushing. This gentleman has collected 4000 articles which are case studies, tissue culture research, and animal experiments. He has left out all reviews that do not support his POV. It has a number of issues including extensive OR and plagiarism.

I spend a number of hours trying to fix it last night however had all my changes reverted. Therefore move to Adverse effects of fluoroquinolones well he and another editor who is with him JamesLockson continue to protect Fluoroquinolone toxicity. Both have sent me emails. Unfortunately I presume the only way forwards will be to ban their accounts but maybe you will have some sway. This article fails WP:FRINGE. Let me know what you think.

Also what do we do with editors that continuously push fringe points of view? Cheers.--Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 17:20, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

Things are moving well at the Adverse effects of fluoroquinolones. Lots of great reviews on the topic. I am going to list Fluoroquinolone toxicity as an article for deletion. I my opinion these people should be outright banded. You are much more lenient than I. Doc, I have had NOTHING to do with editing that article since steve declared it in dispute. I do not know ANY of the other editors other than liteature geek, I have not talked to them privately, I have not encouraged them to make any changes or anything what so ever. Those other editors do NOT have anything to do with me, nor do they represent my point of view. I declared myself to be in conflict of interest days ago. I sent you ONE note asking you not to edit the page until Steve could settle his disputes with these other editors. He and I had already came to an agreement prior to my doing so and I was no longer involved in editing the article when I sent you that note.

This whole mess started when I asked that the black box warnings be added to the quinolone articles. Another editor wrote up a piece about these warnings and added them. Geek had started a page for the fluoroquinolone toxicity syndrome. I wrote up an introduction on the talk page, he and I edited it and added it to the article. I deferred to any changes he made without any arguments. I then added various stubs for the adrs. He and I were working well together (or I thought) to put the article together. I would add something, he would review it and edit it as needed or make suggestions to me. He was helping clean up citations etc., and I thought we had a pretty decent article at that point. I invited other editors to review it and help eliminate any conflicts or problems. My intentions were both honorable and honest.

Steve shows up and deletes the entire introduction and rewrites it claiming it to be far too bias. He and I discussed these issues, and during this ENTIRE discussion I made NO edits. We could not come to terms so I resigned from the article. Geek said I was over reacting and I should stick around. So I did for a while. But again I edited NOTHING. Seeing the direction that the article as heading I declared a conflict of interest on my part and retired from the article.

NOW some of the other editors, who I have NO relationship with whatsoever, got into an editing war with steve. And somehow this is being blamed on me. I had NOTHING to do with that. I retired from the article days ago and have made a few comments on the talk page, replying to questions that had been asked of me, and nothing further. I even asked geek to use my talk page to discuss things privately rather than add fuel to the raging inferno I had not even started. Now people are accusing me of using a "puppet"? Whats up with that?

So now you are accusing me of things I have had nothing whatsoever to do with. Every statement I had made regarding this article can be found in the talk histories. What these other editors are doing they are doing entirely on their own and certainly not at my direction or with my knowledge. If their heads are full of garbage I did not put it there.

People like me who tried to write an article about a subject and then ask for peer review when a rough draft is ready, make you depressed? I presented my arguments regarding the critizisms I received, they were rejected and I retired from the article. This too makes you depressed? What then would you suggest I should have done differently? If you now have issues with the other editors address them, not me. I do not know a single one of them. They do not represent my interest, and they certainly do not represent the foundation. I have never met these folks before in my life or had ANY discussion with them other than what you see on the talk page. Sorry I was not an expert wikipedia editor when I tried to help geek write this article. My intentions were and are honorable. If I screwed up it was not intentional in the least.

On steves talk page he stated that "Furthermore you say that I {steve}should leave the article if I don't agree" Well sir, I never said any such thing or even implied it. I said I intended to leave since we could not agree and I did not want to cause any further friction or drama. It appears that you are blaming me for things I have had no part of or condone.

What you refered to as plagiarism was plagiarism by the owner of that site, NOT ME, I am the original author so how can I plagiarise myself? I recieved summaries from the FDA under the freedom of information act back in Dec of 2008. I posted the results of these summaries in the article, clearly noting that they were obtained from the FDA via my request. As such www.levaquinadversesideeffect.com had plagiarised me as I am the author of those summaries and that site made no mention of this fact.

Once again judged guilty without any evidence of wrong doing. Just your assumptions was enough to render a guilty verdict. That sir is far more depressing.

I came to wikipedia hat in hand and tried to work on the quinolone articles and deferred to any other editors suggestions regarding my efforts. If there is now a backlash from others who are having issues with these articles and the edits being made or suggested I have absolutely nothing to do with it. I tried to play by the rules here. If they have chosen not to then do not try and blame me for this. Go after them with both barrels blazing. Do not be shooting at me for I feel I have done nothing wrong here. I wrote an article, was told it was crap, could not resolve the conflicts and I resigned from the article. Nothing more, nothing less. Any issues you have with whatever the other editors have done or are now doing take up with them. I have acted totally on my own, being respectful of others, with no association with anybody else here other than geek. Davidtfull (talk) 04:03, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

I see my name is mentioned which is fine, just to clarify how the quinolone toxicity page came about, I followed a talk page link on an ip address from the quinolone talk page and saw a big chat between FV and davids ip address (before he got a username). I saw that he had written a fairly lengthy piece of referenced text and I said it was too big for the quinolone article and beyond the scope of the quinolone page so I created a new article and called it fluoroquinolone toxicity syndrome for the data that he wanted to add to the quinolone page as I felt adding it to the main quinolone page would add undue weight due to its size.

What I suggest David is that you post some good sources for citing on my talk page, instead of lengthy posts on talk pages. We all need to forget about the past week's dispute and move on from it. For citations avoid animal studies, single person case reports or other weak evidence. You have a wealth of knowledge of the various medical papers on this topic. If I were you would invest your time in helping develop the wikipedia project by providing good citations. That way we will achieve somewhat of a neutral article.--Literaturegeek | T@1k? 09:11, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

I've edited quinolone pages and am worried that the toxicity information, particularly black box warnings, should appear on all pages mentioning q. I can't fully support Doc James comments and have found david to be very easy to talk to. Kevin McCready (talk) 02:12, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
I further examination. It looks like I was mistaken in saying it was David. So I have crossed it out. There is an anti FQ community out there that is doing this. Literature is trying hard to find a balance. As am I. So hopefully we can straighten things out.--Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 18:01, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

Andy,
please read our guidelines, especially WP:EL#ADV. Wikipedia is not a collection of links. You may think it is an important website but unfortunately it doesn't meet our inclusion standards per the above guidelines. Please stop adding your website to Wikipedia pages.

Steven,

When my uncle was diagnosed with stage III Multiple Myeloma the first thing he did was find you page like many others and quickly became freaked out and depressed. I started my website to be different and it is.

My website has forums, chat, news, feeds, collections of blogs and informative information and links all in one place. People get to the right resources quickly and some of the best resources for Myeloma are hard to find. I have compiled my information from people who have been dealing with Myeloma for years.

Deleting my website does nothing to help the people who need it most. Please keep my link on this one page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zerofeel (talkcontribs) 11:32, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Enzyme induction and inhibition

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Enzyme induction and inhibition. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Enzyme induction and inhibition. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:09, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

I need your mentorship

Hi,

I need help from an experienced Wikipedian, and I saw your name over at WP:ADOPT.

I need your advice concerning WP:WPOOK, which I've been coordinating. The set of pages the project concerns is listed at Portal:Contents/Outline of knowledge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Outline of knowledge#Projected outline, and has grown to about 500 articles in the encyclopedia.

The goals of the WikiProject are:

  1. Increase awareness of readers of the existence of the outlines on Wikipedia
  2. Complete the existing outlines
  3. Create an outline for every subject that is extensive enough to benefit from having an outline (core subjects and major or extensive fields). There are thousands of these.
  4. Recruit as many editors to work on these as possible (we need thousands of editors working on these)
  5. Surpass portals in number by the end of the summer, and leave them in the dust by the end of the year
  6. Get the major outline subject areas displayed on the Main Page (in place of or in addition to the portal links at the top of the page)
  7. Increase the OOK to higher quality than Britannica's Outline of Knowledge (published in its Propaedia volume).

I'm very interested in your comments on how to achieve these goals.

Also I'm interested in every possible way of reaching readers and editors of Wikipedia. How can I get the most eyes and typing fingers on Wikipedia's outlines? Contacting editors directly without a reason relevant to them is spam, which I'd like to avoid. There are 75,000 regular editors on Wikipedia, and I want to contact all of them. So how do I do it? Directly or indirectly, I don't care which, piecemeal or all-at-once, all methods are fine with me. But I've got to find ways. I need your help.

I would also like to know how to find or attract editors to create new outlines. And I need advice on finding editors to help write the new outline article mentioned above (it needs to be fleshed out, completely referenced, and brought to featured article status).

Please recommend anyone you know who might be interested in sinking their teeth into a project like this. Or ways to reach groups of editors. Or ways to reach all editors. I welcome any and all recommendations and advice you might have.

And any thoughts on attaining the WikiProject goals above.

I look forward to your reply on my talk page.

Possible images

Hi Steven, I don't know if you remember me as it's been awhile but I did a couple of images with your assistance. I just had spinal surgery and now have some things that might be useful to articles. I have two different collars, well three actually, but the soft collar is already here. The other two are hard collars that keep the head and neck totally still. The first one is real restrictive, the next is still restrictive but a bit softer for comfort. I don't really know what they are called though which may be a problem. I also have a 'cervical-stim bone stimulator' that is supposed to aide in stimulating the healing. The last one is a machine hung around the neck that has a magnetic field that encourges healing. It's an expensive machine, over $3K, but is recommended by surgeons (and insurance companies cover it). If you think any of these could be useful to the project and your interested, please let me know. I haven't taken any pictures of them yet because I'm still restricted myself in my movements of my neck and my left arm is still extremely weak. I thought I would check with you since you seemed interested in updating and getting images. I will be donating these things so that others may have access to them. Development_of_dipeptidyl_peptidase-4_inhibitors

I must register disagreement with your comment about not merging

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Development_of_dipeptidyl_peptidase-4_inhibitors

with

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dipeptidyl_peptidase-4_inhibitor

I had nothing to do with writing or editing either article, but I am a physician who teaches pharmacology in a major US medical school and have discussed them with my students. The first article is outstanding in quality and scope - very useful to both me and my students. The second is skeletal, almost useless, and little more than a redirection page. I also looked at the WP:UNDUE criteria that you cite as a reason for not merging them, and I disagree that it would apply to a merged article. Verytas (talk) 17:21, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Gorki's album cover vooruitgang.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Gorki's album cover vooruitgang.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 06:58, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Do you think you could take a look at Talk:Myocardial infarction, and Talk:Schizophrenia(tag was actually on /Archive 3), they're both showing up Category:Medicine portal selected article candidates. I should be done bundling the various med portal templates into WPMED by the end of the day. Thanks, and Happy New year -Optigan13 (talk) 23:15, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Adoption

Hi Stevenfruitsmaak,

I've started to clean up the Adopters' list. You appear to appear to have been editing only sporadically in the last months. I wonder if you're still interested in adopting new users. If you're not interested any more, would you mind removing yourself? Thank you and happy editing, Snowolf How can I help? 13:06, 20 April 2010 (UTC)

Journal article

Hi, Michaël. The article "Wikipedia as a global tool for public health education" looks almost ready. It needs a bit of a brush up with the formatting and referencing. Axl ¤ [Talk] 09:50, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Yawn (disambiguation)

The article Yawn (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Now taken care of by hatnotes on Yawn; no need to combine both yawn & yawning

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Cybercobra (talk) 06:13, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Spelling errors in images you uploaded

I was reading Bariatric surgery and noticed spelling errors in several of your images that are used in that article. If you are able to fix them and would like me to identify the errors, please respond here. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 07:15, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Allopathy and its Difference with Modern Scientific Medicine : Request to join the discussion

I came across your userpage and thought that I could try to involve you into the discussion regarding my attempts to radically modify the article on Allopathic medicine where my edit as available at this link, had been reverted. The discussion is available at the respective talk page. I had referenced my edits so that the information that might not be known to many, can be verified. I would like a healthy discussion to be re-initiated in order to improve the article. I would be glad if you show your experienced involvement. DiptanshuTalk 14:39, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
