Request regarding notification

Could you please take a look at User talk:Rlevse#May I request your assistance regarding a notification again? ASAP (that is, unless the issue has been handled in between)? Tx! --Francis Schonken (talk) 10:47, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

As a matter of fact, I've already spotted that message on his talk page, as his page is watchlisted by me. Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 10:52, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Vandalism?

Did I revert vandalism? --RyRy5 (talk) 16:16, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

No. You undid vandalism ;). But yes, it was vandalism. I'm glad it was you. I thought it might have been someone asking about a revert two months ago or something :p. Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 16:22, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

I warned the IP with {{uw-joke1}}. Did I warn the IP correctly?--RyRy5 (talk) 16:25, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Personally, I think not. Have a look at the wording of the warning. Generally, there's a difference between joking and vandalism. Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 16:29, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Steve, do you mind reviewing my recent reverts? I'd like to see how well I am doing reverting vandalism.--RyRy5 (talk) 17:44, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Alright, I suppose I can. Also, regarding this, well, I'd advise using against it. I made that template specifically for merger discussions, on a specific 24 Wikiproject page. I can't see how your project has a need for a merger discussions page such as ours. And that template is actually supposed to be substituted, not written as raw code. Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 17:56, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Steve, I've reviewed some of RyRys recent reverts, I've started discussing over on his talk if you want to join in there. Gwynand | TalkContribs 18:04, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Here you go

Loldong?

Hey there,

I've noticed you have loldong rights over at the test 'pedia. Can you grant me +loldong? If it is of any consequence, I'm a 'crat and sysop over there too. Cheers, Perfect Proposal Speak Out! 14:24, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, I had a quick look, but I couldn't see anything there for requesting that user group. Also, I'm rather sure that a bureaucrat can set the user permission too, so unless I'm mistaken, you can assign the user group to yourself. Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 07:48, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Oh, he was already granted loldong by someone. I think Calvin 1998. The edit summary was "changed user groups to loldong per request at User:Steve Crossin's userpage at wikipedia-en" or something similar.--RyRy5 (talk) 07:51, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Fair enough. Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 07:55, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

You're a brave fellow

Dipping my toe into the murky quagmire that surrounds the Prem Rawat series of articles, I've fast been reminded of what a mess it really is. Forget editorship, if you can clean that mess up, you get my vote for a fast track to sainthood.

As a well-known scoundrel once said, "Good luck...you're gonna need it." Mael-Num (talk) 01:27, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Heh, indeed. I know that most editors, or mediators won't touch it with a ten foot pole. I don't feel this case is beyond getting a solution, all it takes is a willingness to negotiate and to give a little, and take a little. Mediation is about consensus building, and when we have consensus, we have  . Thanks for your kind words. Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 08:17, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Clean-up on David Ortiz

I think I cleaned-up the article well, right? -- RyRy5 (talk) 07:31, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Uh huh. Seems fine. How did you know I was online? Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 07:40, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Hehe, I didn't. I was looking at your contributions and it seemed you were inactive, so I thought you would get the message eventually. But then, I saw you on recent changes. Funny. :P Oh, nice user page btw. Also, how many items do you have on your watchlist, more specifically articles? If you have a lot, do you think it's helpful? -- RyRy5 (talk) 07:48, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Short answer, I have 655 pages on my watchlist. Including all articles and redirects, talk pages, templates related to 24 (TV series), which I have watchlisted for vandalism monitoring and article control. I lead the 24 Project, so it's best to keep an eye on it all. I copied my raw watchlist into a sandbox. Looks messy, but it shows my watchlist there. Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 08:02, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

I only have 51 items on mine, about halve of them are articles. I'm trying to expand my watchlist. Funny thing happened yesterday, I started to watch Manny Ramirez yesterday and then about 10 minutes later, a vandal shows up adding nonsense. I rverted, warned, then waited and then again, more nonsense. The user was blocked indef after a few minutes later. Anyway, I'm trying to get the major baseball related articles onto my watchlist. Are you interested in baseball?--RyRy5 (talk) 08:14, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Interested in baseball? Not at all, to be honest. Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 08:22, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

I was just wondering. Well, it's one in the 1:30 in the morning for me, and I've got some work to do (on wikipedia). Oh, and just to inform you, I was doing the clean-up assignment. It should be 13 articles left right? And I know, no rush. --RyRy5 (talk) 08:33, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Alright, just keep a list of articles for me, so once you're all done, then I can look through them. Which reminds me... Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 08:38, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Erm, one of the 2 articles I've cleaned up so far is in your archives somewhere... and do I have to list David Ortiz, the article I just cleaned up also? --RyRy5 (talk) 08:40, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Yes, it would help for me. Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 08:50, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

And what about the one in your archives, somewhere? --RyRy5 (talk) 08:53, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Try listing that too. Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 09:05, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

RyRy/AfDs

Hi Steve, a couple of his non-admin closes may not be the best. See this one, which was open less than two days. While I agree with the keep, it was opened by an admin and probably could run longer and Capricorn (manga) which he closed after participating in. Deor tried to discuss it, but RyRy archived. As his coach, I wanted to let you know so you can work with him on this if necessary. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 14:13, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

ETA, never mind the second one, it appears he reverted himself. But in general I still think it's an area for discussion TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 14:15, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
and another but Metros reverted him there. Sorry, no more spam at the moment TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 14:17, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Alright, thanks. I thought I told him not to close AFD's till I thought he was ready :/. Well, I'll have a word with him. Thanks for letting me know. Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 14:34, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

You're welcome, now if you just send me some Australian sun, we'll be even ;) I used to live in Brisbane and this crappy weather (~15C and humid, raining) makes me miss it more. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 15:24, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Properly closing AfD's can be an incredibly hard thing to do, even experienced admins have issues with it from time to time. Although I would agree that RyRy should abstain from closing these altogether, he should know that it is really probably one of the harder things to do on the project. Gwynand | TalkContribs 15:28, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Indeed. I've ever only done one non-admin closure, merely as when I see one that's closable per snow or WP:NAC, someone's beaten me to it ;) Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 15:53, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Agreed. The only ones I've ever touched are ones where I withdrew a nom, an article that had been speedied but the deleter didn't know there was an open AfD, and one where it was an obvious merge, schools where the nom was asking for a merge. Other than that, I think they're too challenging at the moment. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 16:14, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

AfDs

I'm assuming you would like to talk about my recent non-admin closures? I was just trying to start closing AfDs that I felt were going to be WP:SNOW keep. I closed 3 and 2 of them were inappropriate taking a look at the AfDs I closed and the policy. Any comments on that? And yes, I won't close AfDs anymore until you think I'm ready. Other than that, how were my reasonings on my recent WP:AfD !votes?--RyRy5 (talk) 23:49, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Some links would help, I think. Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 23:54, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Okay, this was the only appropriate closure I did which was a WP:SNOW "keep". I think I need tutoring on when it would be a good time to close an AfD as "keep" or at least WP:SNOW "keep" for starters. In the future, I plan on being a fairly active user at WP:AFD and i would be happy if you taught me how to close right and !vote correctly. While I'm gathering the diffs, I think we should discuss about closing AfDs, more specifically WP:SNOW "keeps". --RyRy5 (talk) 00:03, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Perhaps have a read over these three "policies?. I'm a little tired at the moment. Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 00:21, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

(edit conflict) I presume the others were here and here. Both look like they were heading towards keep, but I think it'd be better to wait until there's a few more comments. Those two had 5 or 6 comments, and I think it'd be better to wait until a good ten people or so had !voted. Hopefully Steve can tell you more later. Useight (talk) 00:24, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, Useight. That's could help. I think 10+ "keeps" would be good to start with the AfD open for a goo total of days, possibly three. Steve, I'll have a look at those. The following diffs are my recent !votes in WP:AfD: This, this but later on fixed, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, and this. --RyRy5 (talk) 00:30, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

They seem fine. Have a look at this. Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 00:40, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

That's a pretty decent !vote. You backed up your reasoning with policies, evidence from google, and a thorough !vote. Ill try improving my !votes from now on. Also, if I feel I want to close an WP:AfD, should I ask you or User:Useight (depending who's online) first? --RyRy5 (talk) 00:46, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

That's probably the best idea for now, yes. I'm going to bed right now, /me tired. Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 00:55, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Alright. I guess I will ask further questions to User:Useight. G'night. :) --RyRy5 (talk) 00:57, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Or continue the discussion here, and point him to this page :P Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 00:59, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Do you think it would be good to close Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sarajevo International School? Please copy this comment and your reply on Steve's talk page.--RyRy5 (talk) 01:13, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, that one is a tough call. It's currently at 7-2 !voting keep, so that's only 78%. Perhaps it will be necessary to wait a bit longer on that one. If it was 8-1, I'd say go for it, but as it is, maybe a couple more keep !votes. Useight (talk) 01:20, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Agreed, I will close it if it gets maybe 2-3 more keeps without any further "deletes". I'm probably going to wait for 1-2 more "keeps" for Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Einstein and Religion because it's becoming to look like a WP:SNOW. Am I right? --RyRy5 (talk) 01:25, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Yep, sure looks like it, it's 5-0 right now, so it's almost snowing. Useight (talk) 01:29, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Regarding Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Lie: Evolution, the tally is currently at 6-2 in favor of keep (and 1 merge). Sounds like a little debate happened there. But, it also seems that the page has been cleaned up. I would contact User:Paper45tee to inform him of the newly-added references and if you can convince him, then close it. Useight (talk) 03:37, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
How about Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of post-industrial music genres and related fusion genres? --RyRy5 (talk) 03:38, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
It's kind of weird that only about three people commented, but it has been five days and it does seem to be pretty much unanimous, so I guess closing as keep would be fine. Useight (talk) 03:46, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Done. Do you mind checking to see if I did it correctly? I'm pretty sure everything is correct, but still, other user's help can help me learn more. --RyRy5 (talk) 04:03, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Yep, everything looks right. Useight (talk) 04:12, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

RyRy5 should not be closing any discussion before five days is up. He has enough trouble with ones which are five days old, save letting him loose to start snowball keeping nominations which were made in good faith. I would be insulted if someone with RyRy5's standing in the community closed a nomination I made after just 36 hours. Daniel (talk) 06:28, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

Butting in, but I agree; aside from when the nominator withdraws it, I personally don't think anyone should ever snow-close AFDs (and certainly not a non-admin) since it almost always ends in argument; lest we forget, WP:SNOW is a personal essay by Radiant!, not any kind of policy whatsoever.iridescent 00:50, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Completely agree with Iridescent, and will add the only other time a "snow closure" should be given is when the nomination for deletion itself is a bad faith/retaliatory nomination. Cheers, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 00:59, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Comment

Mellie told me you were online? Well, if you are. Do you mind commenting at the bottom of User talk:Useight? Also, User:AndonicO reviewed my reverts today and he said that they all looked fine. --RyRy5 (talk) 09:03, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

That is why you pestered her? No offence RyRy, but I'm not too impressed. I'm with her now, and she's shaking. She doesn't like being followed. Long story that you really don't need to know. In future, when you see her edit, just leave her be, okay? Or don't message her the second you see her edit. Like she said, it creeps her out. Watch my contribs by all means. Now, what am I commenting on? Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 09:08, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Done Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 09:16, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

(ec) I'm sorry Steve, and you too Mellie. I didn't know that it would creep her/you out. I'll let her be next time. Well, I wanted you to comment this. I'll be offline soon. I feel a little sad... --RyRy5 (talk) 09:17, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Long story, complicated, but yeah, being followed, even online, creeps her out. I commented on Useight's page. Anything else for now? She needs cheering up. Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 09:23, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, um, not right now, really. Well, in 1-2 days, I will be on wikibreak (if you read my talk page) because it is my birthday. Also, what do you think admin coaching, in general is? --RyRy5 (talk) 09:30, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Have a peek at WP:ADCO. :) Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 09:33, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

That's it for today. I'm still sorry for what I did to Mellie. Thinking about it, I see how that can be creepy at times. I hope she cheers up and decides to keep editing. Regards, RyRy5 (talk) 09:40, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Okay then. We will just say if you had been through what she has, you'd be shaking too. Seeya. Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 09:47, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Erm, just to amend this. I know you weren't "stalking" or "following" her, you merely just wanted to know if I was on. She just gets, erm, "weirded out" easily, and I guess she isn't used to Wikipedia yet. I'll have a chat with her about it, sorry if I came rough on you. Steve Crossin (talk) (review) 12:22, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

I understand, and your forgiven. Most new users, for example, don't really talk to other users much because their not used to wikipedia yet. They don't realize that wikipedia is a really nice place. I'm not saying that Mellie doesn't realize that wikipedia is a nice place to be, but you just have to get used to wikipedia and everything is easy and more comfortable for you. --RyRy5 (talk) 23:45, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Your comment is noted. Steve Crossin (talk) 23:57, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Can you clarify that? RyRy5 (talk) 23:59, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Means that I've read your comment. Steve Crossin (talk) 00:01, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Okay, thanks. :) I'll be busy with some editing for a while. Cheers. --RyRy5 (talk) 00:03, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi Steve, i'm really sorry to bug you again but i've found another category that could do with {{WikiProject Neurology}} adding to it's articles. The category is Category:Neurology. I'm sorry about not mentioning certain pages already had the template on (as I can see in the post below) I did not think this would be a problem. This time round i'll check manually for duplicates afterwards. :) Regards, CycloneNimrodTalk? 16:09, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

SteveBot mishandles talk pages with WikiProjectBanners template

Can you please fix SteveBot so that it doesn't add banners that are already there? I observed the problem with Talk:Asperger syndrome (see this edit), Talk:Autism (see this edit), and Talk:Tourette syndrome (see this edit) but I assume the same problem exists on many other talk pages. It appears that the bot does not grok Template:WikiProjectBanners and does not observe banners in use under that template. Thanks. Eubulides (talk) 01:00, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, I'm sorry about that. I was requested merely to add the templates, I wasn't told at all that there were existing templates already on the page, and assumed this was the case. I also added a simple skip, but it seems it missed a few. In future, I'll use a regex. Thanks. Steve Crossin (talk) 01:04, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Also note my bot uses AWB. I'll see if I can find how to do this function, as in, with {{WikiProjectBanners}}. Thanks again. Steve Crossin (talk) 01:06, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, I didn't understand what you wrote; I'm not a bot expert. Please let me try to rephrase my request, using non-expert language:
Thanks. Eubulides (talk) 04:19, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

This is a rather simple issue that I can fix without having to stop using my bot. I'll look over its edits. Thanks. Steve Crossin (talk) 05:16, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

New Adoption Page

Hello, Steve. I was thinking of a new idea and I just wanted your opinion on it. My idea is to create another subpage for questions, kind of like editor review. You (and possibly others, you decide) can ask me general questions like "Why do you think are your best contributions to wikipedia and why". It's kind of like this but it shouldn't have anything to do with adminship, but instead, tutoring. The questions asked to me are not like the assignments by the way. What do you think? And i can tweak things a little if you don't agree with my idea entirely.RyRy5 (talk) 07:10, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, I'm not so sure. There is already an editor review process, and I'm not so sure if having a similar thing in the adoption process would be such a great thing. Steve Crossin (talk) 07:16, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, you are my adopter. I think not having the page is good for now. Well, I guess I do have a few questions:

  1. How do you create an image and then upload it?
  2. If a user adds "I love you" to an article and I revert it, what vandalism warning would I give the user if it was vandalism?
  3. If a user blanks an entire section of an article (let's say 2000 bites) and the section had no references/reliable sources added to it, would that be considered vandalism?

--RyRy5 (talk) 07:28, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

  1. Well, you can use a program like Paint or GIMP. Then you upload it like any image.
  2. {{uw-test1}} could suffice there, I think.
  3. That depends. If the article was a BLP, and the content was potentially damaging to the subject, than yes, it should be removed. Whether other removals would be considered vandalism or not, really depends. It's best to use your judgment there, check their other contributions. I'd be hasty to issue a vandalism warning unless I was sure, however. Steve Crossin (talk) 07:37, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Thank you, Steve. Well, I won't be online much later on because it's my birthday here. If I have any other questions, I'll be sure to ask. RyRy5 (talk) 07:41, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Lessons

Hey Steve... I just wanted to drop in and ask if it's ok with you if I lifted your lessons and such for the benefit of my adoptees. I'll be modifying them slightly, and of course fixing any internal links appropriately, but I just felt it would be a waste of effort to re-invent the wheel and write my own (not that I'd have time to anyway!). Proper attribution would be included. Thanks, xenocidic (talk) 13:50, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Of course, just be sure you fix the links, as it causes some issues the last time someone copied them (without asking), and didn't change the links. Steve Crossin (talk) 13:54, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I happened to notice that issue whilst doing a bit 'o' talk page stalking there. ;> Thanks Steve, I'll be sure to thoroughly check all the internal links before making the lessons "live". Cheers, xenocidic (talk) 13:56, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Great, thanks. If you need any help, I'd be happy to lend a hand. I'm planning on writing a new lesson too. I think it will be very helpful to adoptees. Steve Crossin (talk) 13:58, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

By the way, feel free to chime in anytime at User talk:Xenocidic/wikiadopt/Prom3th3an, and/or transclude it into your adoption centre if you wish. xenocidic (talk) 14:43, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Sure, thanks for letting me know. :) Steve Crossin (talk) 14:59, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Could you please take a look?

... at this type of comment, in which an editor is making personal observations about other editors that are inappropriate? Thanks. ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 16:54, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Alright, thanks. Steve Crossin (talk) 17:01, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

I can't see any personal observations about other editors there, I see observations about their arguments, but not about editors. The link is a fact, showing prior behaviour where Jossi removed language from policy that stopped him from editing an article the way he wanted. What's the problem? It shows that it can be done if they want to do it. -- Maelefique (talk) 17:12, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Specifically, I was referring to

The link, well, you can include it, but the sarcastic remarks (and thats how they appear to me, not taking sides), aren't helpful at all. Just take note in future, and be more careful of what you say. And yes, if I pick up on incivility/personal attacking from other users, I'll warn them too. Even Jossi if need be. Steve Crossin (talk) 17:17, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

(ec) I can't see any personal observations about other editors there. The "Jossi and friends" comment may not be article related hence the brackets, but I don't see how that can be construed as a personal attack, and honestly, tell me it doesn't sound like a Kids TV show! My comments regarding arguments presented had nothing to do with Jossi, so could you please point out the personal attack? It can't be about Jossi since he made no arguments there, which is what I was talking about. The link is a fact, showing prior behaviour where Jossi removed language from policy that stopped him from editing an article the way he wanted. What's the problem? It shows that it can be done if they want to do it. -- Maelefique (talk) 17:12, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

I can't see any personal observations about other editors there, Really?
  • After reading some of the arguments in this section, I think I may have over-estimated what I was considering "average intelligence".
  • if Jossi & friends (sounds like a Saturday morning puppet show, just an observation)
  • The "policy re-working" argument, was presented in the arbitration case, which resulted in no action or remedies. Bringing up these issues again, is simply disruptive and a poor demonstration of good faith.
Please consider keeping these type of not very useful "observations" to yourself. ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 17:38, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
I disagree entirely with your assessment of the facts, therefore my observations will continue as I deem relevant and/or necessary (I'll attempt to keep my observations about your puppet show to a minimum if I can though, they might be slightly off-topic). -- Maelefique (talk) 00:07, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Sigh.... Steve Crossin (talk)(email) 00:09, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Escalation?

I would argue that this, calling editors "Rawat zealots", has the potential to escalate and ruin the good work being made in the mediation pages. I will wait for your comment, before considering reporting this to WP:AE ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 17:53, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Apologies for the delay (was asleep). I'm prepared here, as I said before, to throw out warnings for incivility during mediation. To any user. I'd prefer that WP:AE be used as a last resort. Steve Crossin (talk) 00:08, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Sure. I leave this in your capable hands, then. ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 00:55, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Very well, I'll issue a general warning on the mediation page, and from there, I'll throw out warnings if need be, to prevent arbitration enforcment. Thanks. Steve Crossin (talk) 01:01, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

... only that the comment above was made at Talk:Prem Rawat. Not sure this user is engaged in the mediation, or agreed to the process which all other active editors have accepted.... ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 01:03, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Oh? I see...thanks. I'll deal with this then. Steve Crossin (talk) 01:05, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

You may want to look at...

... this and try to comment on it. Thanks. -- RyRy5 (talk) 00:43, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

I went over and commented to the best of my knowledge. And probably messed up somewhere... :( Calvin 1998 (t-c) 00:53, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Lol, ok. Steve Crossin (talk) 00:53, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Special:Contributions/RyRy5

Do you mind reviewing my last 100 or so contributions. The last time I asked was when I wanted you to check my reverts. Now, I would like your opinions on my recent article improvements I've done. Thanks. -- RyRy5 (talk) 01:15, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

They all seem fine to me, but you should try to broaden out from baseball related areas. Steve Crossin (talk) 01:26, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Okay, thanks. I'm trying to contribute to other places than baseball-related topics but sometimes it's hard trying to find a good place to start. Usually when I join a new wikiproject, I just copyedit them and then assess them. Usually, I see an article that needs major improvements along the way, that's how I find a place to start at. I'm currently revamping Geneva Cubs which I found it had some problems. --RyRy5 (talk) 01:32, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Ok, good luck. Steve Crossin (talk) 01:33, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Stevebot add wikiproject template!

Hey there, I am not sure if this is where I am to recomend the tasks for the stevebot but if possible would you consider implementing adding wikiproject banners of certain countries in this list here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/Places.The bot will be adding about 1.8 million articles of places and if possible maybe you can add a wikiproject banner to each subsequent page. It is organized so the bot could possibly add the afghanistan wikiproject first and then the next list and then the next list etc in an organized way. I suggest you get in touch with User talk:Fritzpoll or User talk:Blofeld of SPECTRE :D. Cheers!Calaka (talk) 05:29, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Whoa! 1.8 million? There's no way my bot could do all of that at once :D. I'll see if I can add more functionality to my bot so it could do this task faster. Steve Crossin (talk) 05:39, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Wait, um, is this bot actually writing the articles? Or just Wikiproject tagging them? Steve Crossin (talk) 05:41, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, thinking about it, perhaps you should ask Fritzpoll and see if he can't add functionality to his bot to do it? If he couldn't, I could do it, but it would take some time. It wouldn't be a problem though. I'd just need specifics. Steve Crossin (talk) 05:55, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

I egt what you mean(i think) The bot int writing the articles just getting the lists and hitting a tag on them. Not sure which pages :D. Im guessing the talk pages of the articles listed in lists like this. Is there any chance you could make yourself a bit more clear? Also which banner e.t.c Oh and steve talk with Mel. ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 07:57, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Scrap what I just said :P Im useless at reading really :> ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 08:19, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
First of all, sorry everyone for being a bit slow, I had several things to do in real life non computer related... Now onto some clarification (which is my fault as I didn't give all the details here), The article wont do the 1.8 million articles all at once. The writer of the bot suggested that if all goes to plan, it can get them all done over a 20 week period. Furthermore, there is no rush to get the articles tagged all when the articles get created. But it would save a lot of time instead of having to manually add a wikiproject to all those articles (We see how difficult this is now as there are only 1.6 mil articles tagged out of 2.4 and they are not getting done anytime soon --> Imagine another 1.8 mil to tag).

Now as for asking Fritzpoll to add that functionality onto his bot, I asked him that but he said something about how he might not be allowed to do that (it has something to do with going against 'the main goals of the bot according to the WP:BAG policies' and so if the bot was to do extra things not specified initially when the bot was requested he might get in trouble and such. That is how I got to you as it appears that your bot is able to take 'additional requests' and is already prepared to tag talk pages with wikiprojects. Now correct me if I am wrong but I think your bot is able to do this to more talk pages than just 24 related articles correct? If I am wrong with that aspect please excuse the missunderstanding.

Oh and to explain a bit more of what the bot is doing. It is actually compliling a list up found here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/Places and then it will go on to do every single article on that list. It has already made 100 towns and villages from Afghanistan and here is an example of how it looks: Amurn. As it stands it is not a lot and I am a bit worried some people will not find those articles satisfactory but I am sure in time they will expand. So once all the Disambigiouation things are cleared up (i.e. multiple places in the country and province happen to have the SAME name) the bot will begin doing the entire thing. I am of course just an observer and not a part of the project (except spreading the word around like I am doing right now) so I might have left something out but yeah.

So yeah, if you have any questions, dont hesitate to ask here, I will try and answer to best of my knowledge. Cheers!Calaka (talk) 11:03, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

To further clarify--> The way I think your bot can add wikiprojects on the talk page is simply to go by country. So for the first list, there is Afghanistan and that can just add {{WikiProject Afghanistan|class=stub|importance=}} onto every article on the 4 pages. Then for the next country do the same and so on. For countries that do not have wikiprojects, the scope can be expanded to the continent so {{WP Asia}} for example (If there are any other suggestions that you may have or anyone else for that matter, please dont hesitate to mention). Cheers!Calaka (talk) 11:11, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Ok, I think I can do Afghanistan with AWB, I'll use the Category:Afghanistan geography stubs category, as the page link you gave me has red linked pages and disambiguation pages. I'll see what I can do. Steve Crossin (talk)(email) 21:46, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

I've done some, but I'm stopping, as User:Blofeld of SPECTRE has already made some, and it's caused some issues with my bot. He can complete the task if he wishes, and could you ask him in future to not add the Wikiproject tags, as it causes issues if I'm going to add them with a bot. User:Blofeld of SPECTRE, could you read this too? Steve Crossin (talk)(email) 23:48, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Hey, what about me? I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 00:26, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Erm, what do you mean? Steve Crossin (talk)(email) 00:27, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Hey all. Sorry about the confusion, AGAIN! To clear up, as it stands the owners of the bot are still doing some background tweaking and disambigiouation fixing so that is why you only saw the 100 afghanistan articles created only and all the other lists are red links. Once they organize everything they will begin to churn out the articles and then you can kick in your wikiproject tagging on the talk pages :D. As for tag pages already being present there, I am sorry but I didn't know that the tags already being present on the tag page was going to cause an issue :(. I just assumed that if your bot saw the wikiproject tag in the talk page it would have just skipped the article and went on the next one. Apologies for that. I shall notify the people about this and tell them to not worry about the tagging as it will be a lot faster when you get around to doing it. As for Editorofthewiki, if I am not mistaken, he was also a contributor to the Fritspoll bot and I think he is asking why I did not include him in the credits :P. Apologies Editorofthewiki :D. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask here. Cheers!Calaka (talk) 01:40, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. I think Fritz intended writing into the programming that the pages are tagged accordingly with the wikiproject templates when they are created (although this wasn't done with the 100 trial). By no means would this be abusing the approval and it would save yourself or anybody else having to run another bot to tag them later. Howver if it interferes with your taks then I'm certain we can work something out. Yes I also hope that more information will become available on these places over time. Remember the web is sstill really in its infancy and I'm certain given time info will be released on here about these places in the developing world. Thanks ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 09:25, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Fair enough, I'm fine with that. :) Good luck. Steve Crossin (talk)(email) 09:27, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Well, at the moment, I'll finish the tagging for WikiProject Afghanistan, at least. Someone helped me make a config file so there will be no errors. In future, I could also help tag the talk pages, at least until it gets approved, and becomes capable of tagging the talk page at the same time. Steve Crossin (talk)(email) 21:52, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

If that's fine with you, of course. Steve Crossin (talk)(email) 21:53, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Cleanup

I'm currently cleaningup three articles (not related to baseball ;)). Do you think the references here needs to be using the {{citeweb}} template? -- RyRy5 (talk) 06:32, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

It's up to you, really, but I believe sometimes, if it isn't broken, don't fix it :) Steve Crossin (talk) 08:07, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

If you really want to do it, then yeah, go right ahead. Like Steve said, it's not really broken the way it is, but it would be an improvement. Useight (talk) 08:21, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, you two. I think I will try to improve the article's refs better. Although, I noticed that some of them aren't reliable sources. I'll fix those too by removing them. -- RyRy5 (talk) 08:24, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Rincon Market

Your deletion of Rincon Market was vandalism. If it continues you'll be blocked from editing wikipedia.--Damplips —Preceding comment was added at 21:59, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Actually, it wasn't. Please have a look at the deletion log for the reason why the article was deleted. Thanks. Steve Crossin (talk)(email) 22:37, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Umm...to Damplips, I suppose - 1.)Steve Crossin didn't even delete the page... 2.)No, he won't be blocked for whatever he did. 3.)No threats/personal attacks, please. Calvin 1998 (t-c) 01:50, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
