Hi Steve,

I think what SatuSuro is trying to say is that too much context creates redundancy. For example, I understand why you want to link to both Western Australia and Australia, but "Western Australia, Australia" reads terribly. I've reworked the lead sentence in List of Mayors and Lord Mayors of Perth; consider doing the same on the other mayoral lists you've updated.

Also, you may not be aware that there has been strenuous disagreement recently over whether years should be linked. The manual of style says:

"There is consensus among editors that bare month and day names should not be linked unless there is a specific reason that the link will help the reader to understand the article. There is less agreement about links to years. Some editors believe that links to years are generally useful to establish context for the article. Others believe that links to years are rarely useful to the reader and reduce the readability of the text. Another possibility is to link to a more specific article about that year, for example [[2006 in sports|2006]], although some people find this unintuitive because the link leads to an unexpected destination."

but this paragraph fails to capture just how strongly some editors fell about it. The issue seems to have lapsed into an uneasy truce whereby each side promises not to link or delink years en masse. If you don't want someone to bite your head off, it would be advisable not to link years en masse until the dispute is resolved.

Stonington v Stonnington

Notability of Sports Association of Catholic Coeducational Secondary Schools

A tag has been placed on Sports Association of Catholic Coeducational Secondary Schools requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Conflicts of interest

Hi - I'm Girth Summit, an administator here. I see that you've had this account for many years, and have made over a thousand contributions, but I'm not sure whether anyone has ever discussed issues surrounding conflicts of interest and paid editing with you. Part of the terms of use of this website are that you need to declare any contributions that you make as part of your job: this is covered in detail at WP:PAID. Furthermore, if you are writing about a subject that you have a connection with - even if they aren't paying you to make the edits - our COI guidelines apply, and you are expected to declare your connection, and put articles through the Articles for Creation process so that they will be reviewed by uninvolved contributors.

The reason I'm raising this is because the article mentioned above, which I have tagged for deletion, raises a few red flags. You are writing in the first person in some places, for example: As an association of Catholic Schools, we strive to provide competitive and quality sporting competitions for our members... (emphasis added). This leads me to suspect that you are connected with the organisation.

I also note that the content of that article is highly promotional. As an encyclopedia, we generally do not include stuff that an organisation says about itself, we aim to summarise what independent secondary sources say about it. We don't repeat organisations' vision statements, which are generally quite puffy, instead we just try to write what it is that they actually do, describe their history, and so on. It is possible that the association might be notable, I haven't checked, but that article would need to be completely rewritten to comply with our content guidelines.

I see that you have recently been editing other articles concerning school sports organisations in Australia. I'm going to ask you please to stop editing until you have addressed the issue about whether you have a COI in this area, and have indicated that you have read the guidance and will abide by the expectations set out there. Thanks for clarifying that. An earlier version of your userpage gives details about your employer - is that organisation a member of these sports associations? If so, that could still be viewed as sufficient connection to create a conflict of interest, and I'd urge you to consider abiding by the instructions at WP:COI.

It's not just the first person pronouns (which you have undoubtedly used in that article), it's the general nature of the prose which is problematic. Phrases such as 'prides itself on...', 'Vision' and 'Values' sections - none of those should be in any article. I'd add that there are no independent sources supporting the article - they're all affiliated sources, either the website of the association itself or the websites of member schools. Our articles should be primarily based on reliable, independent and secondary sources, drawing on affiliated primary sources only for the most basic details. There's no indication in the article at present that this association is notable, in the sense that that word is used here. Girth Summit _(blether) 11:42, 18 July 2021 (UTC)

I wonder why you have hidden your connection with Catholic education that you previously had on your user page. Like Girth Summit I'm not sure that you are being as transparent as you might. Dear User talk:Jimfbleak, I am an archivist and historian and work for 1 independent girls school that is associated with GSV, that is it. I am not employed by any other school, nor am I employed by any of these sporting associations, directly nor indirectly. All I am interested in doing is to provide equally accurate information about other school sporting associations in Australia. I still do not understand why you feel one page is different from another, and why one should be removed in comparison to others. Maybe you can explain to me why these sporting associations appear here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Australian_school_sports_associations, but you aren't willing to accept any others of equal and similar vein? The text included on many of these pages are sourced from the sporting association webpages themselves with no referencing what so ever. This is clearly evident with this page, for example Associated Grammar Schools of Victoria and Metropolitan Catholic Colleges Sports Association and Associated Private Schools. I am keen to understand your justification for accepting of some but not others.

I've already told you that the reason why I tagged the article, and why Jim deleted it, wasn't to do with the organisation itself, it was the obvious promotional language used in the article. We just don't write articles like that. You also haven't explained in any meaningful way how you managed to end up using first person pronouns in the article - I can't understand how someone unconnected with an organisation could make a mistake like that, unless they were copying content from the organisation's website or similar (which would be a violation of our copyright policies, and also prohibited).

Now, you've pointed to a bunch of other articles about similar sports associations. That is often characterised as the other stuff exists argument; the problem with that is that it is entirely possible that some or all of those articles also ought to be deleted. I haven't checked any of them thoroughly yet, but any article should be supported by enough independent, secondary and reliable sources to demonstrate notability; if such sources do not exist, the subject is not considered notable, and the article should be deleted. In this case, I think that the notability criteria we would weigh them against would be WP:NORG. Affiliated sources, such as the website of an association itself, or the websites of any member schools, would be considered affiliated sources. We would be looking for entirely independent sources talking about the organisations themselves. If you can find such sources, you are at liberty to create a new article about this organisation, but I would urge you to create it in draft space and to run it through WP:AfC so that an entirely unconnected contributor can review it. User:Girth Summit is right, what happens to other articles is immaterial, and you appear to be concentrating on whether these topics deserve an article, rather than the obvious blatant promotional nature of what you wrote, which would get anything deleted. You claim that you are being open with us here, yet you removed text from your user page which made you less transparent to the community.
