bluelink

So this is one (I saw a few already) where the bluelink made me think it was already handled by another admin; there's so many sometimes that I just focus on the redlinks and I would have missed this one. Drmies (talk) 22:59, 31 January 2021 (UTC)

Hi Drmies, I recommend a setting that strikes out the name of blocked users. That makes it way easier to see who is blocked. It is in the Gadgets of the Preferences menu, and it says "Strike out usernames that have been blocked" Steve M (talk) 23:00, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
This whole filter thing is complicated enough for me already: I don't want to have to adjust settings. I don't even see "Gadgets" or "Preferences" here. Plus there may well be a lag, especially if there's more than one admin working on those entries. And what effect do you think a warning will have on those users who are clearly here just to fuck things up? Drmies (talk) 23:02, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
Drmies, any way to know if they are clearly not here? It isn't always clear unless the username is abusive. Steve M (talk) 23:19, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
Drmies, also, it isn't related to the edit filter. It is in your preferences. Steve M (talk) 23:21, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
That doesn't take away from the fact that it's another thing I have to do, and this, these filter edits, that's actually the only time that I don't want to see if someone is blocked. If someone makes TikTok-inspired edits, they're not here to improve the project. And if I'm wrong, they can file an unblock request. I have placed hundreds of blocks in the last two edits, and I don't think anyone has argued I blocked them incorrectly. (If you look carefully you will see that I have blocked for NOTHERE, for Vandalism, for Vandalism and Username: I don't just click without thinking.) But you clearly are not to be swayed here so I'm not going to waste any more of my or your time. Drmies (talk) 01:23, 1 February 2021 (UTC)

Innocent People

Wikipedia is painting a picturesque point of view as if nothing bad ever happens in that city and that is not neutral. That is not right and that is not fair. I have traveled the United States extensively. I have encountered some great places and I have seen corruption.

Item deletion

Hello Steve,

Re your removal of the external link you added to Linlithgow Union Canal Society because they seemed inappropriate for an encyclopedia. The relevance of Linlithgow Kayak Racing to the Linlithgow Canal Society is significant. The two organisations share launch facilities, and have been in significant partnership at Manse Road Basin for over 20 years. If Forth Canoe Club is worthy of mention and link then very much more so is Linlithgow Kayak Racing.

Happy to provide more information and evidence if necessary.

GBSpeirs37 (talk) 15:29, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi GBSpeirs37. See WP:EXTERNALLINKS. It should be places in an "external links" section. Links are generally not placed in the middle of an article. Thanks, Steve M (talk) 15:32, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
GBSpeirs37, also, you seem to have a conflict of interest with the links you are posting. See WP:COI. Thanks, Steve M (talk) 15:33, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

That's why I blocked both. Don't feed him too much, and I prefer to keep a certain mystery as to how I match socks. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 17:37, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

@Deepfriedokra: nevermind - I was trying to investigate the matter. Steve M (talk) 18:04, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Deepfriedokra, after looking at his response, I won't reply to him anymore - I was intending to extinguish the last hope that they were a good-faith editor, but their response shows that denying is the best route to go. Steve M (talk) 18:13, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
This has happened before, specifically with ItsYaBoiJosh and Its YaBoi Josh 2. Pahunkat (talk) 18:14, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
Pahunkat, good to know, thanks! Steve M (talk) 00:47, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Request for feedback

Given that you've edited the page on collective intelligence, I'm reaching out to request that you provide feedback on the draft of a new page for "General Collective Intelligence https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:General_Collective_Intelligence CognitiveMMA (talk) 14:50, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi CognitiveMMA. I am not the most experienced in the field of reviewing new pages. I recommend you go to the teahouse, where there are a lot of highly experienced people watching that can help you. Also, I don't think I edited the page to add content. I use a tool to fix common typos (known as AutoWikiBrowser) and a tool to deal with malicious edits known as (Huggle). I am not adding content, but I am simply autofixing formatting errors and dealing with bad edits. Thanks, Steve M (talk) 14:53, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

removal of link

Hi Steve,

ShedHub.com is a website devoted to the shed industry and people interested in sheds. Why would wikipedia offer the ability to link to external sites if it was not appropriate for an encyclopedia to do that?

Do you work for wikipedia? I’m unclear on your role.

Thank you.

-CharlesMTern CharlesMTern (talk) 23:37, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi CharlesMTern. Links are mainly supposed to be there only to articles that give more information that would be undue to add, or to the company's website if the articles is about the company. The site you linked to does not add more information to the article. You can see the rule on external links here. Thanks, Steve M (talk) 23:40, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Urinothorax

I reviewed this two days ago, but I'm not sure if you have seen the review due to the lack of response. --K. Peake 07:41, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Kyle Peake, no, I was unable to find it in the mess of my history. I will inspect the review in a few hours. Steve M (talk) 13:46, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
