Uploading an image

{{adminhelp}} Dear Admin help, I want to change the photo on the page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_J._Rubinstein The photo of Robert was made by a contact of mine from the UK. I would like to update to the photo in my SandBox. I have read all the rules and regulations on this subject and understand how important it is that only original files are being used. The photo in my sandbox was taken by "Krijn van Noordwijk" he is a contact of Robert Rubinstein. Robert has asked him can we use this photo on WikipediA and Krijn said that we can use it for what ever we need. Is it possible for me to just swop out the picture with the one we know have in the position on Robert J. Rubinstein's WikipediA page? (Robert said that he looks terrible in the photo we now have on that page) Can you do that or do I have to do it myself? I do not want to make a mess of it and get it removed because I have mad a mistake or something.

You should upload it to Wikimedia Commons, where it will be available for all the Wikimedia projects.

The photographer himself will have to give permission - it can't be accepted just on the basis that someone says he agrees. He can do that by email - See commons:Commons:Permission and commons:Commons:OTRS for details. He needs to understand that he is releasing it for anyone to copy and use for any purpose including commercial - restrictions like "Wikipedia only" or "non-commercial only" are not acceptable. Hello John,

Thank you for helping me out. I will take a look into this. I should be able to get it sorted out. I do have an email from the photograph who took the photo. here is a cut and paste of his email to my boss: I have it between tags only visable in the edit screen

I'm afraid "No man, go ahead, feel free" will not be enough, because of the importance of the copyright holder understanding the implications of the free license. See the section headed "I have received permission to upload the image to Commons" in commons:Commons:OTRS - that tells you what is needed. JohnCD (talk) 15:35, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

Dear JohnCD Thanks for your advise. It is probably better if I post a photograph that I took myself for now. I will go through the steps to get the photograph to fill out whatever he needs to allow to proceed.
