In response to urban album article edit

About the failed verification tag I removed with the Rap album section, I just want you to know, it was an accident when I re-edited the reference source. I highlighted, backspaced the source, and didn't know I highlighted the failed verification tag, doing that too. Darrion "Beans" Brown 🙂 (my talk page / my sandbox) 04:14, 10 February 2022 (UTC)

List of Billboard Hot 100 top-ten singles in 2021 and "Levitating"

There is a pretty disruptive IP range that is removing DaBaby from the artist credits for the song, even in light of the note about the song listed below the tables in the article, a hidden note on the entry, and my talk page topic about it, making my case about why his name needs to be retained. At this point, my next step would be to request page protection, but given the few edits and their being spread out across a number of days, I doubt admin will do anything there.   Hello, I'm Neoinsession. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Jerusalema have been undone because they did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse. The song is a 2020 song, I don't know the motive behind you removing the category but if you think otherwise, please explain further. Neoinsession (talk) 19:15, 17 February 2022 (UTC)

@Neoinsession: Then 2019 songs has to be removed because a song can't be both a 2019 song AND a 2020 song. Just like if someone remakes a song from 2010 and releases it today, that doesn't make it a 2022 song. Per WP:SONGS, use "only the earliest year identified by a reliable source as being written, performed, published, recorded, or released." Thanks. Template:US Rap Albums up for discussion

Hey. I am letting you know that I have placed Template:US Rap Albums up for discussion here. I did it because I felt that Billboard's R&B and rap charting system (both single and album-wise) are likely more consolidated together into an R&B/hip-hop rather than more separately in their own genre charting systems as they are somehow distillated. Join the discussion if you can. Darrion "Beans" Brown 🙂 (my talk page / my sandbox) 02:30, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

In response to Philippines Songs edit

Hello. Adding back the "Top-ten songs" list to the article, now with additional citations from credible news articles in the country referencing the top-ten entries and the chart's existence and relevance in the Philippines. Will separate them into lists once the year finishes. Macinasron 13:39, 05 March 2022 (UTC)

@Macinasron: I don’t see a lot of coverage of the top ten after only a couple weeks of the chart existing. Billboard is a primary source and doesn’t count as independent coverage. It’s just excessive, and many of these top-ten lists for minor charts have been deleted in AfD per WP:IINFO. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 06:45, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
@Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars: The Hits of the World collection of Billboard is a special case, since while there are countries with well-established music charts for reference, countries like Croatia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, etc. refer to Billboard for credibility and consistency for their music rankings. With the discontinuity of Billboard Philippines, Filipino music outlets now consider Philippines Songs as our main chart rather than minor.[1][2][3][4][5] Below are the citations I've used in the article from various news sources besides Billboard reporting on its significance along with mentions of specific or all top-ten entries:
  1. ^ "Zack Tabudlo tops first Billboard 'Hits of the World: Philippines' chart". Rappler. 2022-02-17. Retrieved 2022-03-05.
  2. ^ "Zack Tabudlo claims top two spots in Billboard's first 'Hits of the World: PH Chart". Manila Bulletin. 2022-02-18. Retrieved 2022-03-05.
  3. ^ Basbas, Judine (2022-02-17). "Tilly Birds, Zack Tabudlo, Weibird, Tiara Andini, and more top Billboard's first 'Hits of the World' charts". Bandwagon Music Asia. Retrieved 2022-03-05.
  4. ^ Singh, Surej (2022-02-17). "Zack Tabudlo, Tiara Andini, Tilly Birds and more top Billboard's Hits of the World charts upon launch". NME. Retrieved 2022-03-05.
  5. ^ "OPM artist Zack Tabudlo tops first-ever Billboard Hits of the World Philippines Chart". Bombo Radyo. 16 February 2022. Retrieved 5 March 2022.

On social media such as Twitter, the weekly chart updates of Philippines Songs is a massive point of traction and discussion for several local artists and international support alike. Of course, there would be no use to cite from these sites as per Wikipedia:External links/Perennial websites. On more recent articles, here is NME citing Philippines Songs as a significant chart: https://www.nme.com/en_asia/news/music/zack-tabudlo-to-stage-free-digital-concert-this-march-3169409

Macinasron 15:12, 05 March 2022 (UTC)

I'm not talking about the significance of the chart itself, but a weekly tally of the top ten and all of its trivial aspects like debut date, peak date and weeks in the top 10 is all extraneous info. Most of the citation provided focus on Tabudlo reaching number one - while mentions of other top ten songs are made only in passing. I mean, there are also mentions of his other songs hitting #13 and #18, so wouldn't that mean you can provide the entire top 25 chart every week? Thanks. Notable Eurovision songs being redirected

Hey Starcheers. Not sure if it's a topic you're interested in, but even still: the editor Sims2aholic8 has gone on a months-long campaign of redirecting Eurovision song articles based on a very small discussion where a couple of others agreed in some terms that some stubs should be redirected. After my comments to the editor earlier and concerns I have expressed, it appears to have stopped for now but in the time since I've discovered they redirected several songs that went to number one and charted all across Europe, in some instances quite widely. If you're up to it or get some time, would you be able to go through their edits and revert any you see that you disagree with? I don't know if I have the patience or endurance to do it all myself. I've also suggested this to another editor, one who is more focused on Eurovision song articles. Ss112 15:55, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

I had noticed the redirect effort and the discussion. It appeared that others had tried to counter it by expanding some of the articles, which is a good thing as ultimately it results these articles being improved. I, otherwise, have not paid too much attention to what articles are or are not being redirected but I will check out the edits history. Thanks for the heads up. Proposed deletion of Grant Life

The article Grant Life has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable album from a non-notable singer.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Fooian jazz

Why are you removing cat:Fooing jazz from cat:Fooian jazz musicians in the greater Caribbean? This is a standard part of the category tree for most countries. Guettarda (talk) 14:06, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

@Guettarda: Because there is no such thing as Ugandan jazz. There are jazz musicians who are Ugandan, but that doesn't mean they play Ugandan jazz. The scheme was greatly expanded with these not existent styles of jazz by an overcategorizer. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 16:07, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
@Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars what do you mean by "there's no such thing as Ugandan jazz"? Are you saying that the jazz musicians for all the countries you removed the category from are just mimics who don't add anything to the jazz they play? Guettarda (talk) 17:23, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
@Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars And even if you have a source for your claim that Ugandan jazz musicians add nothing to jazz, that doesn't explain the rest of your removals. I mean, I can find multiple scholarly sources that discuss kaiso jazz. But you say that Trinidad and Tobago jazz is nothing but derivative mimicry? Please do share your sources. And, by the way, you're not a newbie here. You should know that if you think a category shouldn't exist, take it to CFD, don't do a back-door deletion by depopulating it. Guettarda (talk) 17:28, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
I did. The scheme is set up as jazz musicians who are Fooian, not musicians who play Fooian jazz. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 18:11, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

Back in Black (song)

Sorry, viewing that category Category:AC/DC songs tells me nothing as to why you're removing Hard rock cats. - FlightTime (open channel) 01:12, 2 July 2022 (UTC)

@FlightTime: Hi! What I am doing is reverting the edits of BlinkSulfate, who between the dates of June 7 through June 13 was unnecessarily adding such genre categories to song articles when they are not needed when the parent artist categories of the songs are already in that genre's category. For example, Category:AC/DC songs is in Category:Australian hard rock songs so the band's songs don't also need to be placed in a hard rock songs category. Category:Godsmack songs is in Category:Alternative metal songs so I am removing the addition by Blink of that category from the individual articles of songs by Godsmack. Blink stopped the practice when ResPM brought it up on their user talk page, so I'm just cleaning up the mess that was left behind. Thanks. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 01:39, 2 July 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for the reply, I only was persistent due to the articles I checked were Hard rock songs and that was the cat you were removing. Cheers, - FlightTime (open channel) 01:45, 2 July 2022 (UTC)

Opinion please.

As an example, Mind on My Money (Nicki Minaj song) was created as an avoidable redirect. Besides being a complete waste of time for the editor and WP, is it permissible as guidelines stand? Richhoncho (talk) 15:20, 13 August 2022 (UTC)

The fact that it is already created, I wouldn't even worry about it. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 00:00, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
I wasn't worried about one, that was merely an example, This editor has created a number that I have seen. So to rephrase my question, what do you think about the wholesale systematic creation of avoidable redirects? --Richhoncho (talk) 08:51, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
Ah, now I got it. :) Definitely a total waste of time and I don't know why some editors feel the need to do it. It's something that shouldn't be encouraged, but I don't know of a guideline against it. StarcheerspeaksnewslostwarsTalk to me 15:58, 15 August 2022 (UTC)

Billboard (Country) Songs charts

Hi, quick question... no, not country music, I mean the various charts Billboard have started producing for various countries, such as Peru Songs or Colombia Songs. Do you have any idea how these are compiled, and are they official enough to be included? I ask because editors have started adding the Spain Songs chart positions to various articles... I could understand this in a country like Peru where charts aren't well established. But is Billboard Spain Songs chart really on a par with PROMUSICAE's, and should both be included? Richard3120 (talk) 19:41, 1 November 2022 (UTC)

@Richard3120: I'm not a fan of their inclusion but I'm not sure what criteria/policy can be cited to prevent them being added to individual articles. But I agree, while they may be independently monitored and measured, are they significant enough charts to be listed simply because Billboard publishes them? Billboard just says this in terms of methodology: Rankings are "based on streaming and sales activity from within the country—as tracked by Luminate. The ranking is based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of leading audio and video music services, plus download sales from top music retailers within the territory." Hey, sorry to bother you again... I saw you added a merger proposal tag to this song - I came across it because I have similar concerns about another of this editor's creations of Maroon 5 songs, Goodnight Goodnight (Maroon 5 song), and I was checking out their other edits. Would it be OK if I started a section on the talk page for this proposal, because at the moment, there isn't actually anywhere to have that merger discussion?
