Your recent edit to Stanley Cup

edit

I have noticed you just added a bunch of {{fact}} tags to this article. However, I am puzzled by some of them, such as this edit where you add "{{fact}}" just right before there is a citation:

After the Portland Rosebuds joined the PCHA in 1914, the trustees declared that the Cup was to be symbolic of world hockey supremacy{{fact}}''.<ref name="DiamondPrize-20"/>

If you did not already know, the "<ref>" tag is one of the ways that can be used to code citations in Wikipedia articles. For details see Wikipedia:Footnotes. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 04:36, 5 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

That statement is inaccurate that needs a reliable source “After the Portland Rosebuds joined the PCHA in 1914, the trustees declared that the Cup was to be symbolic of world hockey supremacy” First the desition was made in 1915, secondly it wasn’t the trustees that made that desiction it was the Governement of Canada--StanleyPuck 04:44, 5 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

You're quite wrong; the Canadian government does not, and never has had any control over the Stanley Cup, a privately donated trophy governed exclusively by its trustees. To quote Trail of the Stanley Cup: "It was announced by trustee Foran that he considered the Cup emblematic of the world championship and thus open to be won by either Portland or Seattle." The decision was made in 1915, however. Ravenswing 17:23, 5 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
