Regarding Education

edit

Juhayman al-Otaybi wikipedia page having a tag Infobox criminal, I want to include his education as 'Islamic University of Madinah' at the right side, could not edit the article at the right side, just I has made the changes to the main article. . Juhayman al-Otaybi neither represented to Umm Al-Qura University nor he was student. But still Google Knowledge base result shows his education refers to Umm Al-Qura University, but has studied through Islamic University of Madinah. Our prime object is we don't want to see him in Google Knowledge base results as Notable Alumni. Please suggest how can we proceed to make the changes.

ISIS

edit

Thanks for your edit in the ISIS article yesterday. Could you fill in the other details of the footnote, please? The date and author of the article are missing. Also, could you keep the date format consistent with the footnotes generally, i.e. "21 August 2014", not "21st"? You said Hagel's statement was in answer to a question that referred to the September 11 attacks, but that part is not in the "Financial Times" article. Perhaps you had a second citation in mind for that? It will definitely need one. I didn't want to revert you without asking you about this first. --P123ct1 (talk) 08:22, 23 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

edit

Why do you persist in changing "sex slavery" to "slavery" when the former is sourced, without mentioning the change in your edit summary, without providing an explanation, and masking your removal by adding a lot of spaces in the infobox? Vanamonde93 (talk) 11:48, 27 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

On this, I reverted not so much you, as you obviously had your doubts, as the first person who reverted the addition of "Sunni Islamism" to the infobox yesterday - see Talk page #"ISIS and Sunni". --P123ct1 (talk) 14:35, 27 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Obaidullah Akhund.png

A tag has been placed on File:Obaidullah Akhund.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

A tag has been placed on File:Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri.png, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Warning

edit

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.--Krzyhorse22 (talk) 01:45, 22 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

edit

Your recent editing history at Mohammed Omar shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. Non-free rationale for File:Rewards for Justice Mullah Omar.png

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Rewards for Justice Mullah Omar.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Speedy deletion nomination of File:Wakil Ahmed Muttawakil.png

edit

A tag has been placed on File:Wakil Ahmed Muttawakil.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{Non-free fair use}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Possibly unfree Files

edit

Stefan2, I type this here on my talk page, as I am unable to edit on the following discussions regarding the files due to an IP ban which I had welcomed until you conveniently chose this moment to list the 10/12 images that I have uploaded as being possibly unfree, see [1] my suspicions. I'm going to list my explanations for each file here, as I know the vast majority of these images are indeed in the Public domain, contrary to the same discussion which you keep on citing, Wikipedia talk:Copyrights/Archive 14#RfC: What to do with respect to the copyright of countries with which the US does not have copyright relations?.

  • File:Qusay Hussein.png

You've stated this file as bearing a copyright, and stating that there is insufficient evidence that such a copyright has expired. Now, I'm not sure if you can see the little box which states Summary, but the source of this image is from an Iraqi TV broadcast, which was the state owned TV channel of the former Ba'athist Iraqi government. Any copyright, if there was one to begin with, would then be under the copyright of either:

  1. The now non-existent Iraqi News Agency
  2. The now non-existent Iraqi Ba'ath administration
  3. or finally, the now outlawed Iraqi Ba'ath Party.

As it was first broadcasted in Iraq, no copyright is present on it, and any copyright is expired by virtue of the Copyright Law No. 3 for the Year 1971 for the Protection of Copyright which was amended 2004 by No. 83, Amendment to the Copyright Law, it is now in the Public Domain, unless you can prove that in fact this image is a complete fabrication in and of itself and that the Associated Press/Reuters/Corbis were in fact the ones who took this image and then (illegally) smacked the seal of the Iraqi government on it in order to purposefully fool Wikipedia that it is in the Public Domain.

  • File:Screenshot of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.png

You've again used Wikipedia talk:Copyrights/Archive 14#RfC: What to do with respect to the copyright of countries with which the US does not have copyright relations? to prove a point which is open to interpretation and ambiguous. There are a plethora of PD specific templates on Wikipedia, and it would appear that these are absolutely fine to use with no disclaimers but if you use them the image will be flagged as being potentially unfree... Only an intelligent person would see such templates existing on Wikipedia for images in the PD under U.S copyright law for a reason. For example, I have used Template:PD-URAA as the image does not have a original copyright on it (The producers of the footage al-Furqān Media, are the media branch of an internationally recognized terrorist organisation, I'm not sure if copyrights are respected from such organisations in either Iraq or the U.S) it was filmed/created by Iraqis in Mosul, and becuase of this and the fact that Iraq is not a member of the Berne Convention nor the URAA for that matter, it is therefore considered in the PD by the United States. But apparently U.S copyright law has been overridden from a Wikipedia discussion, Wikipedia talk:Copyrights/Archive 14#RfC: What to do with respect to the copyright of countries with which the US does not have copyright relations?. If that's the case, then all PD specific templates (and there are plenty of them) should be immediately deleted. If this is the case, then switch the image to non-free fair use.

  • File:Abid Hamid Mahmud

You've stated the image has no source, it is true that the source is dead, here is another source [2], which you may use to replace the dead one, as I am unable to edit on that page. That image again comes from a U.S Department of Defense source. I have looked through the internet to make sure the image does not have an original copyright on it, and I have not found one. I suspect then it comes from an Iraqi government source, and due to the grainy quality, from a television broadcast. Again, any copyright, if there was one to begin with, would then be under the copyright of either:

  1. The now non-existent Iraqi News Agency
  2. The now non-existent Iraqi Ba'ath administration
  3. or finally, the now outlawed Iraqi Ba'ath Party.

As no copyright is present on it, and any copyright is expired by virtue of the Copyright Law No. 3 for the Year 1971 for the Protection of Copyright which was amended 2004 by No. 83, Amendment to the Copyright Law, it is now in the Public Domain. If it is deemed to be not in the PD, then switch the image to non-free fair use, as this is the most free alternative.

  • File:Muhsin al-Fadhli

You've stated that the source doesn't take you to the required page. That page I have linked was the page to the Terms and Conditions, citing the material as being in the Public Domain. Here is what should be there [3], you can now add that to the summary page as well. Your justification for labeling it as potentially unfree is weak. He was only listed on the RFJ site as of 2012, see [4], and that is certainly a mugshot photo in the possession of the U.S government, so the link is not hard to see.

  • File:Image of Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri

I could find no sources showing that it was first published in Iraq, only that it was first photographed there. I could also find no sources showing it was under a copyright, so I again suspected it came from an Iraqi government source. The first known publication of this image according to my knowledge was the U.S Department of Defense in 2003, (however there is a disclaimer which states last updated in 2000 on the site) [5], which can be shown here [6]. I don't understand how an image first published by the U.S government is copyrighted when the U.S Department of Defense website states "Information presented on this website is considered public information and may be distributed or copied unless otherwise specified"., see [7] That would also make the images on [8] in the public domain, which again blows your accusation that it is copyrighted from the first known publishers, the U.S government. And again like with File:Screenshot of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.png, what are those PD specific templates for if you are barred from using them? In any event, I have an image which is undoubtedly in the PD as it was taken from an Iraqi TV broadcast, which I will upload when I am able to edit in January 2015, should this image be deleted.

  • File:Mullah Dadullah

I could find no sources that the image is under a copyright besides these two sites [9] and [10] as it is clear the image was filmed and taken in either Afghanistan or Pakistan by the Taliban. This is why I have listed it as being non-free use, as it could have been taken in either Pakistan or Afghanistan, and Pakistan is a signatory to the Berne Convention.

  • File:Obaidullah Akhund

This image is cited as being in the public domain here under an 1.0 Generic (CC BY-NC-SA 1.0) license [11], so I listed it as being non-free use just to be cautious as it didn't state the original author. StanTheMan87 (talk) 05:38, 3 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

You are again making the mistake of not reading Wikipedia talk:Copyrights/Archive 14#RfC: What to do with respect to the copyright of countries with which the US does not have copyright relations?. As you can see from that RfC, it does not matter whether an Iraqi image is in the public domain in the United States or not. The policy is to treat such images as unfree on Wikipedia if they are still unfree in Iraq. Also, a statement that an image was created by the Iraqi News Agency is useless as there is no way to prove that this statement is correct. You need to provide sufficient evidence to support this claim. --Stefan2 (talk) 12:55, 3 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Alrighty, I can now see the precious few minutes of my life I had invested into typing all that has just gone to waste. You clearly either did not read or only viewed parts of my extract so you could apply your own version of the Bible ---> Wikipedia talk:Copyrights/Archive 14#RfC: What to do with respect to the copyright of countries with which the US does not have copyright relations? regardless if the image had nothing to do with being in Public domain in their countries of origins e.g Muhsin al-Fadhli. You are not even able to process the fact about a supposed copyright issued under a now defunct former regime (a legal entity) by a now defunct state-controlled institution, Iraqi TV, entering the public domain when Iraq drafted a new copyright law as of 2004 [12] from the previous copyright law issued in 1971 [13]. Even the Wikimedia Commons PD template states this [14]. You're an absolute joke. I can also see you haven't updated the image sources on File:Abid Hamid Mahmud or File:Muhsin al-Fadhli after I had informed you of the corrections, most likely so you can still have them deleted and further your POV-pushing agenda. Doesn't matter though, I'll re-upload them in 3 months time. I'm not going to continue any further in wasting my valuable life, as I just don't care what some little Wiki-Warrior thinks about his/her own perspective on copyright law in the U.S [15]. Toodles :) StanTheMan87 (talk) 08:04, 4 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
You seem to be claiming that some pictures are in the public domain because they were created by a defunct regime. However, I am not aware of any copyright law anywhere in the world which says that the copyright status depends on whether the regime which created the material is defunct or not. --Stefan2 (talk) 16:28, 4 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Gazkthul, thanks for using the images of the ISIS commanders in their respective articles. It has been eating away at me for weeks that I couldn't use them as I am currently blocked from editing. There are many more images that have been uploaded for ISIS commanders, I hope you and Wikipedia find them useful.
al Adani.png
Ayman al-Iraqi.PNG
Fatima al-Jaheishi.PNG
Ahmad al-Alwani.PNG

I also wanted to get your opinion on whether it should be refereed to as ISIL or ISIS. The Arabic translation states it as ad-Dawlah al-Islāmīyah fīl-ʻIraq wa ash-Shām (ISIS) and Levant isn't an accurate translations for Sham, as there is no real substitute for that word due to it's Arabic origin. In my opinion, 'Greater Syria' would be the best choice for an accurate translation. I saw the discussion for the name change and was wondering what you though about it [16] StanTheMan87 (talk) 03:02, 23 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading them! It is tricky to write articles about these individuals, with publically available info very limited and spread across lots of different sources, but I may try to write some more in future.
Personally I have been advocating the use of Islamic State and IS, so I am neutral on the ISIS vs ISIL debate. -Gazkthul (talk) 04:27, 23 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
I agree that IS is the current correct way to address the group formerly known as ISIS, but Wikipedia seems to think differently. I don't understand why we still call it by its former name instead of its official name. If it's becuase of political correctness or some other reason which transcends scholarly discussion, then I support the term ISIS. StanTheMan87 (talk) 05:29, 23 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use File:Ayman al-Zawahiri.png

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Ayman al-Zawahiri.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Safiel (talk) 04:03, 11 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Izzat al-douri 'DNA' death

edit

You will be reported to admin on wikipedia or a community of the admins as you did not provide a source at all which is from a credible international outlet like Reuters or the BBC which actually confirms that Izzat al-Douri is dead as the main BBC article states that Shia militias have alleged it. So any reverts that you carry out without a source, whether dressed in a 'rational' context/subtext will be considered irrational and I will pursue it as such.

Reply: Going to 'Jahannam'? I haven't threatened you. You are plain wrong, he is not dead as it is not been confirmed only alleged by his political rivals so if you want to escalate this into a bigoted religious insult you just threw at me then I think it is worth getting admins involved for threatening a wikipedian along personal lines. I'm speaking professionally about a man that isn't dead and in response you throw a personal insult? (Wiki id2(talk) 09:52, 26 April 2015 (UTC))Reply

Nasser Ansi's date of death.

edit

Nasser Ansi was killed on April 21, 2015. Not May 2015. Here's proof.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/05/07/nasser-bin-ali-al-ansi-killed_n_7235070.html

"SITE cited media as saying Ansi was killed in a drone strike in Mukalla, a city in Yemen's Hadramawt governorate, in April, along with his son and six other fighters."

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/aqap-leader-who-claimed-charlie-hebdo-attack-killed-by-u-s-drone/

"Nasr al-Ansi, who had been serving as an ideological leader, was among several fighters killed in a CIA drone strike on April 21, Martin confirms."

Please stop saying he was killed in May. He wasn't. His death was announced in May.

P.S. thanks for providing information on what happened to Abu Suleiman al-Naser. Always wondered what happened to him.

File permission problem with File:Khalid Batarfi.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Khalid Batarfi.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. Thank you for uploading File:Harith bin Ghazi al-Nadhari, AQAP.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. License tagging for File:Abu Musab Abdel Wadoud.png

Thanks for uploading File:Abu Musab Abdel Wadoud.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. DMacks (talk) 19:45, 5 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use File:Suheil Al Hassan.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Suheil Al Hassan.jpg.

Thank you. Hammersoft (talk) 16:27, 16 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Osama bin Laden.jpg

edit

A tag has been placed on File:Osama bin Laden.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
