editHello, Stallan-Brand. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Paul Stallan, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.
All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.
If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:
- Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
- Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
- Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
- Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.
Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. DES (talk) 23:57, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
Please seriously consider not writing or adding to an article about yourself, as you apparently did at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Paul Stallan. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. - Why can't I edit Wikipedia?
Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.
- Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?
Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.
- What can I do now?
If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.
If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:
- Add the text
{{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
on your user talk page. - Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
- Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
{{unblock|Your reason here}}

Request reason:
Dear Orange Mike, please might you help? I am a student of architecture who is trying to promote emergent Scottish architects. I had been making progress on edits with help from wiki editor DES. I was on my second revision when it was removed. My first attempt to load an article on the architect Paul Stallan of practice Stallan-Brand read like his CV. I was in the process of making it more encyclopaedic. I am not conflicted I am just interested in contemporary Scottish architects. For example there is an wiki on two notable Scottish architects Malcolm Fraser and Tony Kettle. My plan was simply to try to contribute more names to wiki to stimulate more debate and interest. Please might you advise? I have read all of the wiki guidance and I genuine felt like I was making progress on my article. kind regards DS Stallan-Brand (talk) 17:47, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
Decline reason:
Procedural decline - new request opened. Peridon (talk) 21:33, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
- Please note: Wikipedia is not the place to promote anything. 'Emergent' architects sound as if they are up and coming - too soon for articles. We record the arrived (and the past it...). You are using the name of a business. If you are not connected to that business, you should apply for unblock to change name away from any hint of connection. And stick to articles about people who meet WP:BIO with reliable independent sources WP:RS to prove it. Peridon (talk) 18:49, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- Peridon, please take a look at the AfC submission Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Paul Stallan, and the comments on it and on the previous draft. This editor has not been creating pages in mainspace, only via AfC. I had assumed from the user name that this was an autobio, but the above text seems to indicate otherwasie, if we assume good faith. It seems to me, and to at least one other AfC reviewer, that the draft is about a person who is very likely to be notable, although it needs significant improvement. It seems to me that this user has been following the instructions that s/he was given, and begin cooperative, and there is no valid reason for a block. DES (talk) 19:44, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- For editing in the architecture field, they would do best to get a name change. My comments above related mainly to the use of 'promote' and 'emergent' in the unblock request. I didn't block them, and have no objection to an unblock for name change. Peridon (talk) 19:59, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
