Maltese Wikipedia edit

Many thanks for the kind words about my Malta fortress articles. I looked at Maltese Wikipedia, I doubt I can contribute, my Maltese language skills are way below decoding it, let alone contributing. However, if you have the energy, I'd like very much to enhance the English articles I've done with correct placenames, rendered in the correct typography preferably with the anglicised spellings that appear on most maps of Malta as alternatives. I'm working from a collection of maps of Malta, none of which quite agree, and most of which have visiting tourists as their prime focus. --Shoka 22:59, 10 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

I've been correcting some typography and adding some pronunciation. I think I would like to see some sort of consistency, if not a template, for:
  1. Maltese name (i.e. San Ġwann)
  2. Pronunciation (i can't write these.. IPA?)
  3. Anglicized spelling
  4. British/Italian/Alternate name
  5. nick name
over on mt.wiki there are some cities with templates. Thanks anyways! Srl 17:53, 11 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
  • My real job is on the English wikipedia. I try to bring Malta over the english wikipedia, and have had success in bringing malta in a number of articles. I do try and find some time in the Maltese wiki. I have wrote and an article on Zejtun in Maltese.

Write now im working on the main article of MALTA in the english section which is being peer reviewed. you could be of help to. Maltesedog 06:39, 15 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the mt edit

thanks, i didn't know about the malta-related topics thing, I've only started using wikipedia recently, i'm going to translate the sciortino article from mt.wiki and fill in what's left to be done(the article was incomplete) i left it in such a way that anyone else can continue translating it.

I presume this is Yuri? I just made the topics thing yesterday :) Thanks.. BTW maybe we need a maltese biography stub? Srl 03:31, 16 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

yep, will do ,it'll take a week or two since i need to do the research and i've got stuff to study but it's on my todo list. Yurigerhard 03:34, 16 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Grades edit

I've made an alterative redirect proposal, that Grades should redirect to the disambiguation page, Grade. Please consider. Cheers! BD2412 T 02:28, 17 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Malta-related topics notice board edit

My interest is peripheral at best, my major interest at the moment is stub-sorting, and it happens that while doing that I come across a wide variety articles, some of which are Maltese. By the way, you may wish to also note besides {{Malta-geo-stub}}, the stub {{Euro-stub}} and its children. The usual threshold for stub types is 60 articles (sometimes more depending on the type of stub) but 60 should easily be enough for a country stub. If you can find (or create) 60 non-geographical stub articles related then a proposal for a {{Malta-stub}} would be able to pass easily. You may wish to search Category:Europe stubs and it's Europe wide sub=categories for Malta related stub articles. Caerwine 00:25, 19 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

  • There are definitely 60 stubs relating to Malta. The problem with the articles is categorisation. We are only a few on the web interested in Malta related articles on the Wikipedia (from the response to the news page- this seems clear). When I once asked for help, I was dumped with information to summarise!

For the past year I have gone through various articles and initiated a process of checking and amending the articles where necessary. I generally create short articles at first, which are then enhanced during the year.

Categorisation is always a problem - can we list the various categories.

I had listed the malta-geo-stub personally because I beleived there were a number of articles relating to Malta -- mainly towns which were not categorised under a stubs category -- contrary to towns in Belgium for example which were categorised.

I therefore look forward to your comments on the Malta page regarding the categorisation. What are the categories? Is it possible to trace a list somewhere Maltesedog 20:59, 20 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

I wonder if Category talk:Malta is a good place eto discuss categorization? Srl 17:15, 22 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Deletion of Dustin zammit edit

Can we protect the page till it is deleted officially. Well, its truly bad stuff. I mean the guy who states "he wants to be on top of the world" offending us back. Deletion votes are still low I'm afraid Maltesedog 19:23, 27 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

I think you mean 217.22.181.127 ? I don't think it's a problem yet, I'm watching it, he'll just get blocked if this kind of behavior keeps up. Srl 19:26, 27 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Ok, hope we'll have a speedy delete Maltesedog 19:32, 27 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Me too. I hope .127 shapes up.. Anyways, i just did another search for things with malta in them, and added a bunch of stuff to various categories. I didn't update the stub list on most of them, I thought once the stub exists (1 week from now) I'd just make a pass through the malta cats and add them to anything that's actually a stub. It'll be much more than 60 to be sure.., Srl 19:36, 27 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Recent deletion edit

I'm not sure why neologism is banned...how else are people supposed to learn of new ideas and such? This seems to be a frivolous reason for deletion, and borders on censorship. I'm not a regular user here, although other articles have been posted by my roommates through the same router (hence the matching IP's). If you truly believe this small article deserves deletion, perhaps you can offer me suggestions on how or where I may correctly post it? Brian. b.oconnor@uky.edu

I don't think it is encyclopedic, as to posting it, who is the intended audience? Perhaps space safety experts? science fiction? (that isn't meant as an insult, just trying to find the intended audience.) Srl 08:44, 30 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough, I'll admit I hadn't really read any of the guidelines. I understand it's not particularly encyclopedic, but, having not read the guidelines, I assumed it was a small enough entry that despite its limited appeal and notoriety it might be accepted. Heh...didn't mean to cause any trouble, and I'm not particularly sure who the audience is. Perhaps science fiction fans, people with active imaginations, etc? Regardless, I appreciate the response. As I've not submitted anything here before, I thought it was just a summary deletion by someone who hadn't thought about it for more than 1 second; that's the primary reason I challenged it. As to the IP situation, I doubt I'll be submitting enough entries to merit a username, but if the inspiration strikes me some other time, perhaps. But thanks :) -Brian 09:00, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

Roughly: "I have an opinion! I don't agree with the EU". Maybe someone else can help? Ask on the message board? Srl 04:30, 2 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, a referendum was passed for entry in the EU and there were opponents. Now the opponents are only a minority. I think that poster is old Maltesedog 06:50, 2 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

NOTE:

That billboard was very popular at the time, and given the historical circumstances you did the right thing in uploading it on the web.

No2EU was an offshoot of CNI, geared mainly towards the younger generations. It was set up in November 2002 and lasted until the EU Referendum in March 2003.

Two lawyers in Malta had even reported the billboard for copyright infringements to Fox.

It's 'Anti-EU Membership', in fact, not "anti-EU", which is different.

Malta-related stubs edit

You didn't do all that much wrong when you created the template and category. It's just that we're busy removing "related" from category titles. The template can be fixed to feed into the proper category ("Malta stubs"), but that requires null edits on every article currently in the category. It also means that after the creation of "category:malta stubs", "category:malta-related stubs" needs to be deleted. This needs to go through a formal process. Another problem is that deleting a category is something only an admin can do, which I'm not ;) So I can help you fix some of this, but I need the help of others to clean up, as it were. Image Tagging Image:Malta c.png edit

This image may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Malta c.png. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Matt 13:00, 23 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Maltese Nobility edit

Thanks for letting myself know, though I think its too late to stop the deletions. As long as they can keep the main pages that may be sufficient. I was quiet surprised and at best I dont reply to verfy references unless suggested. I have had discussions on another site and stopped in my tracks as these "so called" experts assume they are fully verse in southern European history. Tancarville 08:47, 21 July 2006 (EST)

welcome.. I see your references, and I also see the prior decision to keep most of the nobility. Hmm. 「ѕʀʟ·

I had voted for a week delete. Some of the nobilities are really unnotable. The testaferrata is not one of them, quite notable but do they merit a place on wikipedia? I don't know. I always voted for deletion, on basis of personal belief. there importance is very limited in the present day and their nobility is much more questionable. Maltesedog 12:45, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
