Assignment 6

Intercultural adaptation

Intercultural adaptation is when a person from another country, enviroment,go through a process, the persons in cross-cultural interactions change their communicative behavior to facilitate understanding (Cai & Rodriguez, 34) In other words intercultural adaptation happens when a person try's to fit in a new culture by copying the people so he or she will not be misunderstood when he or she talks to someone from the culture and they do not seem like outcast. Adaptation is often measured in terms of psychological well-being (Kristlansdottir, 131). Adaptation is a process that could not be for everyone. The host culture may not be equally receptive toward all ethnic or racial groups ( Kristlansdottir, 132). Intercultural adaptation looks how it is when a person from a different culture adapts to the new way of living and how the new experience might cause them to become someone different (kristlansdottir, 133).

When people from a different culture adapt to a new culture it could lead to a culture shock. Cultural shock refers to the feelings of disorientation, anxiety and confusion that unfamiliar cultural environments arouse (Xiaochi, 32). Culture shock could lead to depression (Xiaochi,32). When someone joins another culture they have to learn the culture value and what can cause culture conflict.

Intercultural adaptation model

Intercultural adaptation model (IAM) focuses on illustrating the process of communicative adjustment during initial cross-cultural interactions (Cai & Rodriguez, 31). IAM shows how some people may or may not understand intercultural situations. IAM helps illustrates how a people that have had a intercultural experience it may or may not help give them more confidence when it comes to adapting to the new culture.

Wiki 9 assignment

edit

For my wiki 9 assignment I peer reviewed Saifalz and Cweber10 articles. I added the following comments.

Hi Cweber10! I am in the 10:40 class, you did a great job the article you added was very interesting, I agree with the others maybe something you can put in the future is examples of some interracial couples and maybe add some quotes they about it. Great Job again

Hi Saifalz I am in the 10:40 class, I really do think you have some real potential for this article because it is a very interesting topic. For future references I would add more to each section and explain it more and maybe even some stats. For each section you gave maybe state who does this affect or who does it not affect. What does the government and the people think about the things you stated. and how were they established. Again good job on what you have and a very interesting article
