Linwood edit

I've removed the Linwood history section to the top of the article because the Wikipedia standards for city articles state that history sections should go near the top of the article, above the geography. Nyttend 18:37, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please familiarise yourself with Wikipedia's standards. The history section falls significantly short of these standards, and the tag should not be removed without the reason for its placing being satisfied. Nyttend 19:44, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Standards edit

Obviously, Nyttend is much more familiar with Wikipedia standards than I. However, I have reviewed the basic standards and fail to recognize exactly where this page "falls significantly short" of meeting those standards. Perhaps Nyttend would be willing to enlighten me, since I am unable to find any direct link to communicate with Nyttend directly.

Why don't you just leave a message on my talk page, rather than leaving it on yours? What you want to do is go to Wikipedia:Manual of Style, where you can see "In headings and subheadings: only the first letter of the first word, and the first letter of proper nouns are capitalized; all other letters are in lower case (for example, “Rules and regulations”, not “Rules and Regulations”);" Moreover, what you've written sounds like an essay about the history of Linwood, not an encyclopedic section. As well, please don't plagiarise other websites, especially without attributing it. It's obvious that you've worked with this webpage, simply changing the wording slightly. Please don't do this; it's better to do a complete rewrite, as I've done. Nyttend 13:54, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Please read Wikipedia:No personal attacks. I am quite aware of Wikipedia:Please do not bite the newcomers, and I'm trying to follow that here. This is a wiki: I have no responsibility to ask your permission to make changes to my submissions, any more than you have to get permission to change mine. Frankly, policing changes is a big thing, since the point of Wikipedia is to create a high-quality encyclopedia; if nobody did, we'd have a pretty poor encyclopedia. By the way, what I've tried to say several times is that the writing style of that page does violate Wikipedia rules. And lastly: please type ~~~~ after your posts on talk pages, so that it's obvious who left the comment. Nyttend 14:21, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
Reading WP:OWN would be my suggestion. Other good policy pages to be read can be found in the blue box to the right, on the page I linked to. Octane [improve me] 10.08.07 2035 (UTC)
