Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks! edit

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

@El C: I really sorry to bother you, but it would be necessary to report that the user tries to insert material into the article which is not supported by the cited source, please take a look at this edit, the source never says anything about "boycott". Or at this source it was said that Iraqis celebrated the killing just by referring to two tweets doesn't belong to Reliable politic man or press!but the user used the source for this edit. They are so povish edits too.I wonder if you leave a comment!Saff V. (talk) 07:21, 7 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Saff V. my comment is that if you object to the edits due to a reason that's grounded in policy, you are welcome to modify (including removing outright) those edits as you see fit. Perhaps the editor, their lack of response here notwithstanding, would not object — in which case, problem solved, no? El_C 13:08, 7 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

image overload on Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by military branch edit

Hi. I just visited Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by military branch as you mentioned on my talk page, and I noticed that you just edit and put lots of image on that page.
Refer to MOS:IMAGERELEVANCE, Images must be significant and relevant in the topic's context, not primarily decorative. I dont think putting armed forces logo on the right side of article is relevant to the topics.
And refer MOS:IMAGELOCATION, if you really need to put image on that page, please avoid placing images that causes a paragraph break.
I strongly suggest that you edit that page accordingly. Thank you. Ckfasdf (talk) 02:18, 11 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

February 2020 edit

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Yemeni Civil War (2015–present); that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.
The article is under 1rr so I suggest you self-revert and seek consensus in the talk page instead of editwarring SharʿabSalam▼ (talk) 00:23, 13 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

What? I was just recently adding better sources with better reasonings to add them. If you try to accuse me of editing warring just because I was adding reliable sources, I am complaining to AN/I because you think I was edit warring when I was adding reliable news sources. I did not revert whatsoever, all I ever did was add American and British news sources (they have the freedom of press according to Freedom House). SpinnerLaserz (talk) 00:26, 13 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
I am giving you an advice. You have reverted two editors in a 1rr article. If you dont self-revert then I predict a block.-SharʿabSalam▼ (talk) 00:37, 13 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
And just in case, Al Arabyia is not a reliable source, it is also a Saudi based news outlet.--SharʿabSalam▼ (talk) 00:41, 13 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Copyvios and conflicts edit

I note that you've just blanked three articles as copyvios Qianli chuan Mo (grist mill) Huolongchushui, all recently created by an editor with whom you've have various disputes. Can you please point out the overlaps and copyvios? - because I'm just not seeing them. Andy Dingley (talk) 18:17, 15 March 2020 (UTC)Reply

I suspected that these articles may violate copyright rules based on the text. One source in one of the articles includes payment to view the document, which suspects that this may be copyrighted. SpinnerLaserz (talk) 18:18, 15 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • Which text? I've looked, I can't see any overlaps.
Paywalled sources (which?) are no reason to accuse another editor of multiple copyvios. Andy Dingley (talk) 18:24, 15 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure about this, I have to let the admins check and determined if they are copyrighted or not because the author who created the them got one copyvio. SpinnerLaserz (talk) 18:26, 15 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
You should withdraw these yourself. There is no reason to see them as credible and they may be seen as you trying to harass an editor as part of a dispute. Andy Dingley (talk) 18:29, 15 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
If I were to keep then will this cause affect the author emotionally? SpinnerLaserz (talk) 18:39, 15 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • The "emotional consequences" are that you will be blocked for harassing other editors with baseless accusations. Andy Dingley (talk) 18:41, 15 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
I am talking about the author I had disputed with. SpinnerLaserz (talk) 18:42, 15 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • I'm talking about who's the one who's going to be blocked. Andy Dingley (talk) 18:44, 15 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
  • I'm sorry if I upset nor offend anyone but I had tried to stop the drama between me and Simeon but I had gone way too far and should had not happened in the first place. Is there's anyway I can sloved the drama because I tried to brought the issue with Simeon up to the dispute noticeboard but nothing worked as no admin has responded yet. I don't know if I should apologize to the author that I had bothered to end the dispute. This dispute has been going on for days now and has not been solved. I had to think of new ways to solved as the copyvio nominations will make it worse. So, I had come with something that can end this dispute once and for all because this is a conflict of interest. I tried everything to end this but it backfired. The only way I can end this is to either discuss the issue on the talk page that are involved in the dispute or discus the dispute in the WP:Teahouse, here goes nothing. An article you recently created, List of North American countries by area, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. hey, whats about your request? --Mrmw (talk) 22:09, 3 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

hi, made requests on several wikis - got some translations
but some people think its hard to translate - some think it should not be translatet at all - they think its an english term - and they think if there would be a translation, human-right-organisation in this countries should create those translation - in many languages the word 'black' is racist an to be handled carefully - what do you think? - have a look for yourself:

--Mrmw (talk) 06:03, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Okay I requested them because racism is a worldwide problem and some of the people may not know nor speak English very well. SpinnerLaserz (talk) 12:58, 8 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
as many other users i think its difficult to translate this term without missunderstandings in other languages - i wont continue in this task - i wont create other logos
orginal request: en:Wikipedia:Graphics_Lab/Illustration_workshop/Archive/May_2020#Black_Lives_Matter_logo_in_different_languages

Thin blue line images edit

Hey quick question re: the thin blue line flags you're uploading at Commons, are there any indications that the police in those countries are actually using the thin blue line flags? I'm obviously a bit restricted because I can only really search in English, but I don't see any indication that, say, police in Albania really use that flag. ♠PMC(talk) 20:57, 21 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

I notice you've removed Albania, but that was just an example. There are still a couple dozen others that seem to be original research. Can you please respond to my question above? ♠PMC(talk) 21:18, 21 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
No, and what on earth makes you think that? I'm asking because it appears to me that you're inserting large amounts of original research into the article in the form of user-created images of flags that aren't actually in use by police in those countries. In other words, you're making it look like the "thin blue line" thing is worldwide, when it's really more like a western-world phenomenon. ♠PMC(talk) 22:05, 21 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
I'd like you to answer my question please or remove your statement, it makes me extremely uncomfortable that you are making unsubstantiated statements about my personal life, based on god knows what. ♠PMC(talk) 22:32, 21 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
I had removed the offending statement that bothered you and I apologized for making this. As for the thin blue line flags, I had removed half of the flags that you mentioned and added sources to the files based on the photos of the cops. I tried to find any thin blue line flags in other countries but so far, I only found Ukraine (http://mariupol-police.dn.ua/news/view/3630), the Czech Republic (https://www.krimi-plzen.cz/a/nasivka-tenka-modra-linie-thin-blue-line/), Australia (https://twitter.com/kennymatse/status/1222365588946702337/photo/1), Israel (https://www.alamy.com/black-and-white-israeli-flag-with-thin-blue-line-on-military-uniform-thin-blue-line-flag-law-enforcement-symbol-image335899424.html). SpinnerLaserz (talk) 22:34, 21 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for removing the statement above, and for making the changes to the article. In the future, please avoid making statements about peoples' off-wiki lives unless based on on-wiki information. I don't believe I have ever stated my occupation on-wiki. You need to understand that it's very creepy to be making assumptions about my life based, apparently, on my editing of the page (and ironically if you look at the history many of my edits are removing unsourced pro-police sentiment from it). ♠PMC(talk) 22:44, 21 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
I am not a political person and I do not support police brutality. SpinnerLaserz (talk) 22:46, 21 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Neither the fuck do I. I don't appreciate the bizarre insinuation that I do. Again, I will caution you about making creepy assumptions about peoples' personal lives and beliefs. ♠PMC(talk) 22:48, 21 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Okay then, I will try not to make comments about personal lives in the future. SpinnerLaserz (talk) 22:51, 21 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
