Speedy deletion nomination of User:Spektred/sandbox edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on User:Spektred/sandbox requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20160322006255/en/Tri-Counties-Bank-Completes-Acquisition-of-Three-More-Branches-along-the-North-Coast-of-California. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. @EN-Jungwon: Hello, I feel that this nomination for deletion was done in error. Yes, I am new to article creation so I wasn't aware of some of these things, but regarding copying content, there is no copyright infringement here since that copy was originally written by Tri Counties Bank themselves and submitted to the source (businesswire) that you mentioned. We have submitted the quoted text to dozens of sources online. In fact, the exact same copy is also mentioned on the banks official website, and they (my employer) frequently use this text to explain who we are. I understand if Wikipedia requires it to be written in our own words, but was speedy deletion really necessary? A quick warning should have been enough.
I had just started writing my draft article (and I even though I have dozens of verifiable sources to prove notability) the article got deleted before I had a chance to add any of them. I thought that the article would be safe (away from the eyes of others) if I created it in my sandbox. Since I have a conflict of interest I thought I would first build the draft here and then submit it for review/editing. Spektred (talk) 17:39, 15 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Please read WP:COPYVIO. You mentioned that the copy was originally written by Tri Counties Bank themselves submitted to the source (businesswire) and that you have submitted the quoted text to dozens of sources online. That means that the text is copyrighted by your company. The speedy deletion was necessary because Wikipedia can't accept any copyrighted material. See WP:G12 and WP:COPYPASTE. Thanks. @EN-Jungwon: Alright, I can work to get the article constructed by a third party who will write it in original words but I fear that it will still sound very similar to the "copyrighted" text since many of those words are just straightforward descriptions of the bank, and those same words will appear in multiple sources online.
