WikiProject Rugby League

Hi SpecialWindler. I've noticed you've made use of the rugby league player infobox on some of the Brisbane Broncos players, and I would like to extend an invitation for you to join WikiProject Rugby league if you'd like to. Basically what we do is organise rugby league articles in general, including standards for templates, styles and other entries, and in the future collaborating articles in order to get them to featured article status. There are no prerequisites for joining, and you don't even have to actively participate if you don't want to. But if you would like to join, just add your name to the list of participants and that's it. If you have any further questions just let me know on my talk page.

As a side note, I've made some minor edits to your infobox additions. Just take note of the things I've changed and try and keep them as a standard when adding new infoboxes. It's more of a Wikipedia policy that anything else, and it makes sure that every page making use of the infobox is the same. Cheers, --mdmanser 04:14, 5 October 2006 (UTC) .

Question

How do you make certain text smaller. I want to make part of a table only 90% text size, i know it can be done but how do you do it?? Thankyou.

You can use <small>text</small> to make small text. You can also use html scripting to change the font size. Although that is a bit more complicated.—WAvegetarian(talk) 02:43, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Re: Edit — Ease up on the attitude. Don't bite the newcomers. --Erik (talk/contrib) @ 20:57, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

It's cool. Just be patient about reverting uncited information. You could insert a comment like <!-- Please do not include cast members unless there has been official confirmation from MGM. --> (copy and paste it) in the Cast section. It won't show up in the article, but if users try to edit it, hopefully they'll see that and stop. --Erik (talk/contrib) @ 21:10, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Re: Shane Perry

It's a contentious issue really. I created the infobox based on its football counterpart, and the style under which it SHOULD be done can be seen at [Template talk:Infobox rugby league biography]]. The real manual of style has the five tildes (~) for the time signoff, but as you say, his last game was on October 1. Personally I normally go by your method and I have done with 99% of the articles so far. But I'm not sure why I used the five tildes in his infobox - perhaps just a brain explosion at the time. Change it back if you want, I'll be using the original (just the date) style from now on anyway. --08:39, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Weird

Why is it when I type - Naomi (James Bond) - in the search that it goes to List of James Bond henchmen when it should go to List of James Bond henchmen in The Spy Who Loved Me.

Don't worry

It has to do with the redirect; most henchmen redirect to the List of henchmen and then you cand find links from there. Cbrown1023 00:21, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Welcome!

I noticed that you've never been welcomed:

Permanent Link

On the left side in the toolbox it has "Pernament Link".

What does this mean?

If you hover the mouse over it, it says "Permanent link to this version of the page." If you click it, you'll notice that the URL in the address bar changes. You can copy that URL and use it as a link so that the link always shows this version of the page. This is used mostly for articles, especially articles that are frequent targets of POV wars. For instance, if you like a particular version of an article and want to be able to easily pull up that version, click Permanent Link, copy the URL and paste it onto your user page. Then when you click that link you'll see your preferred version, regardless of any changes made since that version. SWAdair 10:28, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Nice job with the rowspan. It's made that section a damn sight easier on the eye now. - X201 09:02, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

And more James Bond

Hello, SpecialWindler. When you archive -- or otherwise delete 74,353 bytes from an article -- would you kindly say so in your edit summary? I tho't at first it was blanking (I have the page on watch because it is a favourite target of a particular vandal and his sockcessors). Thanks much. {{helpme}} again Why does the template go above the table, i want it around the other way??? on List of James Bond henchmen in On Her Majesty's Secret Service

What template? John Reaves (talk) 01:22, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
In The section Angels of Death there is a passage of writing, then Template:James Bond characters and then a table with 12 pics on it, how do i get the table above the template??? SpecialWindler 09:55, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
Hi SpecialWindler, it appears to have been due to the table code (but I'm not exactly sure why). I have fixed it (you can click here to see what I did - I also altered the heading text and removed the line break), and you might find Help:Tables useful in the future. Happy editing, mattbr30 10:07, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Bond girls redirects

Is there some discussion that you're working off of somewhere where it's been decided that Bond girls shouldn't have their own articles? Or are you just making this decision on your own? Dismas|(talk) 13:24, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, what is that all about? Especially silly was List of James Bond girls in The Living Daylights, which consisted solely of Kara Milovy. I've now moved it back, but there are lots of double redirects which I'm not sure I can be bothered to fix. Opera hat 15:48, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Oh, I see. You posted what you thought should happen at Talk:James Bond and since nobody responded, you just went ahead with the change anyway. Dismas|(talk) 16:25, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Which is highly out of process.. we need to undo them.. My talk page has a few responces from him.. EnsRedShirt 07:12, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: Australian national rugby league team

Sources used for current players games played and scores are a combo of...

Roo Crew site which has all players international stats upto 2005 and rleague.com archives which has all players international stats from 2005 onwards. So i've just taken the stats from the roo crew then added any apperances (points cored) they may have made in 2006.

I just thought you'd like to know that I have proposed a WikiProject dedicated to improving Wiki's library of James Bond information. If you're interested, go to the project page and add your name under 'Interested Wikipedians' . Don't be afraid to mention the project to other people you know will want to help. I look forward to starting the project as soon as interest shows itself. Ganfon 03:07, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Brisbane Broncos GA on hold

Thanks for your request for assessment. I have completed same and at this stage I've put GA on hold and nominated 18 further minimum adjustments here that you or other editors should consider making. Please let me know when you are ready for a re-assessment and I'll be glad to help.--VS talk 04:35, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

  • The word "orchestrator" suggestion at #6 - my points is - have you looked the word up - is it the right word for what you are trying to say? What is the plural of orchestrator? Is there a plural word? For #6, 14, 17, 18 (which many editors miss), as follows: your document currently shows the following content orchestrators [3], however when in fact it should be orchestrators,[3] however (please note that even though I have problem with the word orchestrators the point would be the same if you used another word such as coordinators, or collaborators or instigators etc). My point is that the in-line reference should always follow the punctuation or word immediately after - with no space in between. That is the same for all other such inline references where there is a gap or a missing punctuation as explained further in my GA on Hold comments. Hope that helps? Good work on starting the process straight away - though don't be afraid to take your time to make sure you get all of these items corrected.--VS talk 08:39, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Okay I will make a few comments at the end of the talk page as necessary and also go through the whole article in a day or two when I have a chance to go through every reference properly - redate them if necessary and check each of the images - I will get back to you as soon as I can.--VS talk 11:31, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

That's the way - GREAT WORK!! Can you put a note under mine to say you have done it. Then perhaps have a think about how you can fix the Barry Maranta and Paul "Porky" Morgan issue and you are all but there (I will just have to check each of the references though) - but otherwise bloody great work.--VS talk 11:53, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, as you might know I am HB4026 and I noticed on the to-do list that you do not have a recent reference regarding the percentage of Rupert Murdochs shares. Check out News Corporation because I found the amount of his shares: 68.9%. I am not sure but this may lead to more info. Harrison-HB4026 03:07, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Great PDF reference SpecialWindler! I have adjusted to page 25 (first page is not numbered) but good work.--VS talk

Continuous Minor Edit Barnstar

SpecialWindler - an editor such as yourself that continues on the path - looking for ways to make those minor edits count until a goal is completed is a rare find on Wikipedia. Please accept the following with my compliments (and I will finalise my assessment at Brisbane Broncos sometime tomorrow and let you know the outcome). Well done....

Brisbane Broncos graded as Good Article (GA)

I have reassessed the article following completion of all items of review. Comments are placed on the articles talk page. An appropriate date-linked template has been added. Article is graded as GA - Well done to you and all others concerned.--VS talk 04:14, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

  • Excellent. I am glad I was able to help you by giving you that link to News Corporation. Maybe later yourself, User:VirtualSteve and I could work on other National Rugby League teams (like St George Illawarra, who I support :) ) to bring them all up to GA or even FA status in the future. Thankyou Harrison-HB4026 06:01, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
Just a note on the above (and then I will close and remove myself from this completed GA) that it will probably be best that I do not work on any future Rugby League article for two reasons (1) because my assessment for GA or any level for that matter on subsequent articles will be both ethically correct and far more objectively sound if I do not, and (2) with respect, whilst I appreciate other editors interest in the subject of Rugby League - other than supporting a team from the periphery I actually am not a Rugby League fan (I am non-converted Victorian in terms of sport). Just don't want to dissappoint you later (however my services of assessment are always available).--VS talk 07:04, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

FAC

I don't understand. I don't think I mentioned the Sydney Roosters article. In fact I don't even know who they are. Buc 11:34, 22 April 2007 (UTC) If it's a FA them you make a fair piont. Modeling articles on current FA is something which has worked so well for the WikiProject Football that that now proivde a template for the basic layout. Buc 11:49, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Broncos

Very amusing. Go to the Broncos talk page and have a read. But thanks anyway.--Jeff79 03:19, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

I mean the Broncos talk page already has several paragraphs of discussion from me.--Jeff79 03:23, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Ok, cool. I missed that. Have you read through some of my ideas on the Broncos' main talk page? I looked everywhere for the club song (a valuable addition I feel) and amazingly (since we hear it more often than any other clubs') I can't find it anywehre on the web.--Jeff79 03:42, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I saw that. But that's not the one the team sings after the grand final (which is the only one worth mentioning I think). I have a general idea of its melody in my head and I think the very last line is something like: "..and they're (we're) never gonna do it again. BULLSHIT!"--Jeff79 03:57, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Rugby League Articles

Hi SpecialWindler. I am HB4026 and I helped a little bit on the Brisbane Broncos with you and others. I was wondering if we could together work on other NRL teams such as the Sea Eagles, Cowboys etc. How about it? Harrison-HB4026 04:50, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Brisbane Broncos Records

{{helpme}}

Why on Brisbane Broncos Records does the template down the bottom go all weird. The template is at Template:Brisbane Broncos SpecialWindler 12:29, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

It was due to unbalanced markup higher up in the article (a table was opened but not closed). I've fixed it for you. Hope that helps! --ais523 13:07, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject Rugby League AID

I started up a WP:RL article improvement drive (AID) a month or two ago, and we've been gradually working on helping each NRL club article get closer towards FA status. At the moment we're at work on the Brisbane Broncos one but I'm reluctant to put the AID template (currently on top of Parramatta Eels on the Broncos article, simply because editors at FAC won't like it. Put your name down and keep an eye out on the talk page for further updates on what the Project is doing, and hopefully you might consider joining to generally improve articles on rugby league! Thanks. mdmanser 13:22, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

The article was deleted under a PROD (which was applied by me), you can remove the tag, but if you do, the article will go to AfD. Yanksox 05:22, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Category:Brisbane Broncos

I put some of the more notable Broncos players under the 'Category:Brisbane Broncos'. I think anyone who cares to click on the link to the category page might be interested in those players. Maybe you thought it was the beginning of someone's attempt to list ALL the players. Surely you agree that at least the captains can appear there? Can we agree on some criteria, like maybe the captains and anyone who's played 200+ games for them? Or players who played thier whole career with them (like Steve Renouf)?--Jeff79 07:05, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm totally aware of the 'Brisbane Broncos Players' Category. It's not my intention to clutter the Broncos category at all (in fact I've made efforts to unclutter and re-categorise some other rugby league-related categories lately). I just think some certain names can appear there. Names like Allan Langer, Wayne Bennett and Shane Webcke are synonymous with the Broncos. I only meant to list certain individuals with more than an ordinary relationship with the club. Andrew Gee is part of the coaching staff now and played a hell of alot of football with them. I think we could expect to see a name like George Piggins in the Souths Category, Peter "Bullfrog" Moore in the Canterbury category and Ken Arthurson in the Manly Category. It's in that spirit that I included those names.

Regarding the '(rugby league footballer)' suffix. There's nothing to say that Corey Parker won't become a coach or an administrator after his playing career. Nothing is lost by removing the word 'footballer'. I think shortening the title is reason enough in itself.--Jeff79 07:20, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

I know where you're coming from with the encouraging of others to go overboard. But we're here to keep an eye on that. Can we at least agree on the captains? Or players with over 200 matches? Brad Thorn has played his entired NRL career with the Broncos and won several premierships with them (but I'm willing to back down on his inclusion). Names like Allan Langer and Gorden Tallis just being buried under a huge list of Broncos players doesn't seem right.--Jeff79 07:36, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Ok, so 200+ games then? That means (aside from the captains) Michael Hancock, Andrew Gee, Shane Webcke and Petero Civoniceva. Steve Renouf and Wendell Sailor just miss out. However two of the club's top three try-scorers are Renouf and Sailor. Do you oppose the above players' inclusion (plus the other captains)?--Jeff79 07:51, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
