Regarding templates

The user in question was violating WP:CIVIL almost certainly, and I can't speak for NPA, I was advising the user not to use custom warnings that could be inflamatory. If this still seems inappropriate, I'm sorry. i kan reed 08:35, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

TheNoobcomic deletion review

  • Thank you for your comment on my input in the thenoobcomic deletion review. I can see now that I have let my frustration shine through in my response, which I will leave there because I sense it does reflect some of the frustrations also felt by others in the discussion. To answer your question: no I am not a sock puppet but decided to join in the discussion because I saw, what I felt were, unjust arguments and a violation of wikipedia policies by an admin. It is important, in my opinion, that people are able to trust admins to act according to the rules and lead by example. In this case I felt this was not the case, hence the frustration and my subsequent response on the subject. -- Livinginabox 16:15, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Trodel RfC

I think you were mistaken on my latest means for this RfC. I was simply trying to close it officially. I was not aware there was anyone with the power to do so in a more expedited manner, and I am glad you did so. Thank you.TheGreenFaerae 11:53, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Well If I am in the wrong, I feel he at least deserves an apology. why is it wrong to apologize?TheGreenFaerae 21:32, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
I am not violating any rule, and leaving two apologies does not count as escalating the debate. I am not trying to have the last word, if Trodel puts another message on my page along the lines of don't let it happen again, or anything else that does not elicit an apology from me, I will not even consider send a message back. But if he legitamately points out something wrong I did, he has every right to an apology. I'm sorry you do not feel that way, but I will NEVER refrain from apologizing to somebody that I have wronged. This is the only type of message I will send to him, no other, and there is nothing wrong with that. TheGreenFaerae 21:39, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Haven Institute Deletion Review

Thanks for your suggestion in the review. I'll paste it here for your reference.

Why don't you have a go at recreating the article in your own user space according to wiki policies and once you are finished have another go at moving it into main space? Feel free to drop me a line (click on humbug) if you would like any help with the mechanics. I'm not an admin so I can't userfy the deleted article into your user space but a passing admin may well agree to do so if you ask here. Cheers --Spartaz Humbug! 17:24, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for this suggestion. I would like to do this. So, I am requesting that a "passing admin" usery the deleted article into my user space ... that way I can dig into the revision. I don't want this article to be dropped because of my ineptitude. I'll follow up with a note to Humbug.

To Humbug ... yes, please, I would appreciate some help with the mechanics of this.William Meyer 18:10, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Reply from William Meyer

Thanks for your reply. Glad to hear you think I'm on the right track.
I do not have any conflicts of interest. I am not involved in this Institute other than to write about it. I do know the people involved reasonably well however.
I thought I had included citations in the text in my articles. But apparently I have not done this to your satisfaction. Please show me a place where I am derelict here, and I'll fix it. I have tried to follow Harvard Referencing, and then add a (Smith 2003) indicator in the body of the text that refers to a 2003 article or book by Smith. What am I missing?
You mention this is a very long article. Good information for me. I will cut it down.
I'll let you know when I have cut down the article and made the citations so that you can offer any further suggestions.
How specialist are the references? Most are reports from journalists who have done articles on The Haven Institute, in newspapers and magazines.
Two articles are from Gabriola Island's newspaper; one more is from Nanaimo newspaper (nearby) and three are from Vancouver/Victoria publications .... both cities are in the same province, but at quite a distance (their coverage is province-wide). Finally, two articles are from a publication in Taipei, Taiwan to back up the international coverage.

To Humbug re: William Meyer/Haven Institute

I have a draft done now that I think might be okay.

My questions:

  • 1. How is the length? I could shorten the section "The Haven Institute History" (or remove it completely) if you think the article is still too long.
  • 2. Are the citations correctly done, and appropriate for this page?
  • 3. Any other suggestions?

Thank you for handholding me through this. William Meyer 01:18, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Would his edit summary for removing it classify as an NPA violation? I mean, he does clearly insult you for putting it on there.TheGreenFaerae 06:33, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
yes, but I'm letting it ride. If I report him for the abuse he will get blocked. Then he will come back even angrier and then I can see this escalating into his getting banned. I'd rather not be the cause, so I'll leave him be.. --Spartaz Humbug! 06:36, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Probably a smart idea. Good call. TheGreenFaerae 08:44, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Well, I chose to vote keep after reading the AfD several times, as well as WP:FICT, and tried to get an idea of what they were arguing. This was not an easy choice on this AfD, but I also looked over what edits were created in between when the AfD started and ended, and there was a lot of improvement in terms of sources. The arguments basically boiled down to as such: Keep said that it passed WP:FICT, WP:V, and stating that there were sources, albeit primary. Although some delete voted sent out WP:RS, WP:V, and WP:OR, many were simply WP:ILIKEIT accusations, when I could find no trace of that in the keep votes. The delete votes also cited that it lacks information in multiple secondary sources, which is true, however fictional characters are almost never the subject of multiple professional sources.

Actually, I noticed that WP:A/WP:OR/WP:RS mentions NOTHING about fictional characters, which is a huge problem. Certainly we need to figure out where fictional characters lie in that spread. That needs to be fixed so that stuff like this debate can be taken care of easier. (If I had said no consensus it would've been the same outcome anyway).--Wizardman 18:59, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

"Objectionable Amounts of Advertising"

Yes, rule number 5 does state "Objectionable Amounts of Advertising" but I don't feel that the site has any more advertising than any other site. "Objectionable Amounts of Advertising" might be your opinion, but until there is a hard and fast example or list of what constitutes "Objectionable Amounts of Advertising" what do you base your decisions on? Your own opinion? Last time I checked, your opinion is merely that- an OPINION... so please stop suggesting that adding a few recipes by way of external links is some how spamming your precious Wikipedia. Mexicanfood 03:31, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

It's a judgement thing and you are welcome to seek a third opinion or ask at the guideline page for another view. You can also use the talk pages of the articles for gathering consensus. What you shoudn't do is come to my talk page and post an agressive message because that's only going to create a dispute where none is needed. Just for the record I only reviewed and deleted one link. Finally, you never answered my question - do you have any kind of connection to the website you keep plugging? Your user name and the name of the site you have been adding are mightly similar. If you have a conflict of interest its not appropriate for you to be adding these links. --Spartaz Humbug! 09:52, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

User:William Meyer/Haven Institute

Perhaps you are too busy to deal with my request for help ... if so, please just say so, and I'll seek help elsewhere. I have redone the Haven Institute page, and I would appreciate your eyes on it to see if it looks acceptable.

1. Is it ready to resubmit for use on the Wiki pages?
2. If it is ready, how do I go about putting it on the regular pages? Just do it? Or do I need to ask permission of the review committee that reviewed the original pages that were deleted?
3. Any other comments or suggestions?

Thanks. William Meyer 17:22, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

I think the references on the article are a little weak and they are rather dated. Is there nothing more recent you can cite? Otherwise you have done a good job with the rewrite. I think its still a work in progress but we have no deadline for getting this thing done. :-) If you wanted to have it restored to mainspace, I would suggest that you took it back to DRV with a request for consideration. You could just restore it but there is a danger of it being speedied again as recreated content - ideally you need a few more recent sources if you wanted to just restore it without going through DRV. Good luck and let me know what you decide to do. --Spartaz Humbug! 22:55, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for getting back to me. Your comments are very helpful. I agree that there is no deadline ... I want to get it right the first time. I will find some more recent references ... I don't think this will be difficult to find ... just will take some leg work to get them. I'll get more recent references, and then get back to you when I think I have satisfied what you suggested. Best wishes, ... William Meyer 00:00, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

Sorry about that one, it was not intentional. Andante1980 09:09, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

A Note on Deletions

Please be advised that it is detrimental to request the deletion of appropriate and informative content. It is not acceptable to mark a new article for deletion simply because it doesn't have any references yet; this is not policy. Instead, what you SHOULD have done was run a quick google search. I have done this for you, and inserted several links about the woman to the bottom of the page as references. As such, your deletion notice has been removed - it was factually incorrect, and so invalid. John the Apostate 21:54, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Battaros

Your edit makes sense. I'm probably going to bring it back though, after I have done more research on Battaros and have more than just the cluttering-specific source though. How do I tag an article that it's something I'm currently researching, and I only have one source right now and I plan on making a bigger article out of it soon? I'm kind of new. Thanks. Maria Gomori

Hi, it's William Meyer again, on another matter. I just created a page for Maria Gomori that was immediately marked for speedy deletion. I thought I had done my homework with the references, and was confident in putting it up. Indeed, I put up another page yesterday on Albert Trueman which went onto Wiki mainspace with no issue. Please have a look at the page for Maria Gomori and give me any suggestions about what I can do to fix it. She is indeed a noteworthy person ... but the editor seemed to question this. Hi, the article on Maria Gomori has a banner posted on it, requesting that the article be "Wiki-fied." I have read the appropriate sections, and have done the job as much as I can. Hi. I was trying to figure out how to transwiki it; it's not the lack of sources but the fact that it's a poem text that bothered me. I thought I made a good effort to remain welcoming but maybe I overdid it. Thanks for your view. Kaisershatner 17:47, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

My earlier post to the JF talk page seems to have gone awry, but it's there now. In no way did I mean to personalize this issue. I simply wrote on this page in hopes that you would review my latest. Sorry I offended you. Regards, Вasil | talk 18:33, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

To Spataz: You once told me a link on Foster's page was a 'copyvio.' Are these copyvios, also? They are merely transcripts of the interviews with Foster, and do cite where they are from at the top of each page. They're really great sources, so I hope they are ok. --Wasted Sapience 12:08, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

I think what I'm going to do is just try to get as much information as possible from those sources and cite the original works, and when I'm done I'll put a list of links to those interviews at jodiefoster.nu on her talk page. --Wasted Sapience 23:24, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
Well if interviews aren't reliable sources, then I don't know what is. Who is a more reliable authority on a person than the person herself? If this is true, then I may have lost my place on Wikipedia forever, because that just doesn't make any logical sense. --Wasted Sapience 13:53, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
Interviews have their place but people lie in interviews all the time. A well sources biography is a much better source for an article because the author will check their facts (for libel if nothing else) so these secondary sources are much more helpful than an interview. That's the point I'm making here. Spartaz Humbug! 15:29, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
You'd have a hard time finding a "well sourced biography" about a celebrity. And how good are these supposed sources? A makes a claim, and cites B as a reference. B makes a claim, and cites A as reference. C makes a claim, and cites A and B as references. A and B then cite C as a reference, and so on. I'll stand by my claim that there isn't a better source about JF than JF herself. I think you're being sort of paranoid by thinking that Foster has any reason to lie about what it's like working with a bluescreen or what books she likes to read. I'll leave it up to the editing community in general to decide whether or not the interviews are alright as sources. --Wasted Sapience 16:02, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

The MissBehave article is still in the works - I have no idea what it's about, or what's included. They asked for imagery, and permission to discuss me in an article. I posted a scanned version of the create magazine article on my press releases page some time ago: [2] and here's the press releases page, where some of the artwork is in some magazines. There's also some online articles (i've run across a few in german...i don't speak german though) that are online. [3] echo

Hia Spartaz! Great! Thanks for the nice note! Just let me know what you need, and I'll help dig it up for you! By independent sources do you mean similar to the TalentSpeaks! article? It's 'independent' (as in - i had nothing, nada, zilch to do with it...it was sent to me after the fact) however it uses mostly re-hashed materials from other sources (i'm not sure what the sources were). lol - so I don't know..? What else would count as an 'independent source'... does it have to be an article? it has to be published, or just online? I'll certainly be happy to help with whatever I can..... but one thing that I gathered pretty quickly is that meddling as the subject is taboo... so I can help...from a distance! :) One of my students from a dozen years ago emailed me out of the blue and brought the wikipedia site to my attention - I assume he is the original author...

I bet you run into many ruffled feathers on the deletion page? I scanned todays posts - people can get pretty defensive over such things!! Thank you for your help! echo

I was just reminded that there are two articles in the works - both print, however. Creativety magazine is working on something (it's about using sex and pinup illustrations to sell products i believe); and missbehave magazine is doing an article as well - on female artists? i'm not sure really (that's how independent they are...i don't even know what they're about!). I just emailed both, requesting a copy when they're finished. hope this helps! i appreciate your work on this! echo

Hia Spartaz. To respond to the last persons post on the deletion page - I'm not trying to push on this...I just thought it was a cool page, and want to help by supplying whatever is needed. It's kindof neat, but i'm not going to sweat it.  ;) Now, I went over to my friend Amy Browns wikipedia page looking for an example of a 'verifiable source' so that I could compare. I couldn't find anything...what is it on the page that counts? That will help me narrow down exactly what should be listed. Brom has a bunch of links, but they seem to be all interviews or interview gathered material.... what's the line? Thanks!

Hi Echo, thanks for the reference. I'll have a look at the article when I have 5 minutes, I see that it has been restored so we are no longer under any rush. Cheers. --Spartaz Humbug! 21:45, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
