Hi Sosayso, welcome to Wikipedia. My current focus on Wikipedia is to improve biographies of people involved in WWII codebreaking; the likes of Turing, Flowers and Newman. I wondered if you fancied collaborating on getting one such particular article up to a decent state (e.g. Wikipedia:Good Articles level)? — Matt Crypto 17:12, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Matt, thanks for your message, the first I've received! Took me a while to understand how to reply. I'd be glad to help, but should confess that I'm not active in the fields of codebreaking or computer history, I just happen to know or have known some of the key people. So I could be of help, but would probably be unqualified to play an equal role. The Max Newman bio certainly interests me -- I have a family connection -- so I'd be glad to help improve it. The Turing bio, I notice, is already a Good Article. Let's continue to discuss. Now let's see, how do I sign this - or is it done automatically? Guess I'll just say Bye SoSaySo.
You can sign by typing out four squiggless in a row: ~~~~, and it gets replaced by your username and a datestamp; see this help page. Shall we settle on the Max Newman bio, then? There seems to be a wealth of good sources available. — Matt Crypto 11:26, 3 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes, let's go with MHAN. There seems to be a fairly standard set of section headings for these bios, so perhaps the first step is to agree on what they should be, presumably drawing on the bio in Copeland's book, and then make lists of the things to be included under each heading. Would you like to have a go at drawing up the section headings? I can then suggest things to be included, since I'm quite familiar with the main events - it's the technical stuff that I get stuck on. I felt uninspired, so I just used the functional pre-WWII, WWII and post-WWII section divisions for now; hopefully we can come up with better names for them at some point. Based on William Newman's bio, I've also sketched some areas we'll likely want to cover; see Talk:Max Newman#Structure. — Matt Crypto 16:14, 3 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:Original-computer-wallpaper.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Original-computer-wallpaper.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 16:07, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Duplicate images uploaded edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Henry whitehead age 30 approx.jpg. A machine-controlled robot account noticed that you uploaded the same image twice: as Image:Henry whitehead age 30 approx.jpg and also as Image:Jhcw.jpg. The latter copy of the file has been marked for speedy deletion since it is redundant. If this sounds okay to you, there is no need for you to take any action.

This is an automated message- you have not upset or annoyed anyone. In the future, you may save yourself some confusion if you supply a meaningful file name and remember exactly which name you chose (file names are case sensitive, including the extension) so that you won't lose track of your uploads. For tips on good file naming, see Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions about this notice, or feel that the deletion is inappropriate, please contact User:Staecker, who operates the robot account. Staeckerbot 18:15, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Apologies, I got confused by the copyright form. I have received this by email on 14 April 2007 from Oliver Whitehead, son of Henry and grandson of Isobel Whitehead who probably took the picture: To Whom It May Concern, I agree to license this photograph under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.5 license. Sincerely, Oliver Whitehead.Sosayso 21:08, 23 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:Max-newman-1950.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Max-newman-1950.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
