- The weather was fantastic, but because of a recent storm there were heaps of trees blocking the path (which was for the most part about a foot wide, on the side of a steep incline), and one part where a huge chunk of the track (c/w trees!) fell into and dammed one of the streams we were to cross. Add to that some rocks that came unstuck when we were on them, sending two of us falling several metres before getting caught in trees below, and some of the better tracks being closed off, and you can see why we had a little difficulty getting to shelter before nightfall. There was no reception there, but we made it to a hut. Needless to say, we called off the rest of the tramp and went for the nearest road as fast as we could once the sun rose- with one girl on makeshift crutches and the rest of us sore and somewhat disconcerted. sonia♫ 00:41, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Mentor Request
Sonia, my name is Claire Stumbras and I am a student at Syracuse University in the Wikipedia and Public Policy course. I am planning on working on the stub "Compulsory Public Education". I am looking for a mentor to help guide me in the format and offer feedback on the quality of writing, sourcing and general content. Let me know if you would me interested. I look forward to hearing from you! Clairestum (talk) 02:10, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
- I'd be happy to. I'm online every day if you have any questions or need any help, and we can also correspond via email (or MSN/ Gtalk/Skype etc) if you like. What do you have in mind in a mentor? Would you prefer one to guide you through the process, or to explore by yourself and have me on hand if you have questions? sonia♫ 10:40, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
- Sonia, first - thank you. I think just general feedback on the articles I am working on, and suggestions for improvement are really what I am looking for. Due to the requirements of my class I have begun working on a different article, Food Quality Protection Act. I anticipate working on a few other policy related articles within the next month and a half as well. Let me know what you think, and thanks again! Clairestum (talk) 17:25, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
- Great- I've looked it over quickly, but will do so again (after this upcoming weekend.) If you have any questions or run into any conflict with other editors, do let me know and I'll check it out- I see that you've been doing a lot of interacting with other editors, which is great. sonia♫ 04:27, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Re: List of 1992 Summer Olympics medal winners
Thanks for getting the list off to a great start! I did go ahead and unlink the events and add the details links below so that this list is consistent with other FL medal-related lists (like this, for example). Thanks again for the help! --Another Believer (Talk) 01:16, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

- There's tons of material out there on Barcelona. The tables are the pain in the neck here, but I'll give you a tip on these. Take the times out, and you can copy the tables from Athletics at the 1992 Summer Olympics and similar articles. The ones that don't have scores, like Fencing at the 1992 Summer Olympics can just be copied... verified, fo course, but if it checks, just copy. Courcelles 01:27, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
- That's what I've just discovered; thanks ;) By the way: how much more needs to be done to 1980? sonia♫ 01:33, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

I promised WT:BISE I'd ask a couple of "list experts" about this. Also, while I'm here - what's the state of play for the two Kiwi lists (Governors General and one other, I think?) TFOWR 14:37, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
- I'm a "list expert"? Looks a lot like List of Latin phrases to me (a necessary split of a large list), but could probably be better structured. I'm currently working on National parks of New Zealand as my NZ list project, it needs a lot more sourcing and prose to be ready. The other two'll come later :) sonia♫ 00:03, 11 October 2010 (UTC)

hi there
I hope everything is OK there :) I have been working on an article, can you check it please? Now I had learned how to put the references, but I do not know if I did it well. The article is Celebration of Mexican political anniversaries in 2010 I have wrote on the "South of the country" part. For my school project (the one were I have to write something about) is going to be in teams but we do not what to talk about yet, everything is on Wikipedia! :S Do you have an idea for that? Selecting a Mentor
Dear Sonia,
I am an Indiana University graduate student working on an initiative to improve public policy articles on Wikipedia. I need to select a mentor for this project. Would you be willing to serve as my mentor?
Thank you very much for your help and I look forward to hearing from you.
Chushimp26 (talk) 16:23, 14 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hello, I'd be glad to. What do you want in a mentor? Thus far what I've been doing is just being here for my mentees if they have any questions, and checking over what they've done every so often. Would you like that, or are you envisioning a different approach? sonia♫ 04:27, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
Signature
I borrowed, okay stole, the music notes in your signature and am now using them for my signature. Hope that's okay with you. ♫Mr. R00t Talk♫ 00:26, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
- No problem whatsoever- they're not mine, after all. You may wish to see Miscellaneous symbols (Unicode block) for more symbols you can use. sonia♫ 04:27, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
Your input is requested
I have started an RfC on inappropriate userboxes, i.e. those that don't follow the introductory paragraph at WP:UBX:
"A userbox (commonly abbreviated as UBX) is a small colored box ... designed to appear only on a Wikipedian's user page as a communicative notice about the user, in order to directly (or even indirectly) help Wikipedians collaborate more effectively on articles."
How does a userbox about a user's own preferences in regards to what topics on Wikipedia they hate and what type of sexually explicit material they like and actively view help Wikipedians collaborate with one another? Which is the question I am raising.
This introductory paragraph over at WP:UBX contradicts WP:NOTCENSORED so I'd like you to weigh in at WT:UBX, it'll only take 5 minutes of your time. I've sent this message because the topic has not had much community input

Thank you for agreeing to be my mentor. I am a student in the Urban Economic Development course at Indiana University. We are working in groups to prepare an article on public policy for Wikipedia. How's your Online Ambassador experience going so far?
Hi Sonia/Archive 4,
We're starting to get into the busy part of the semester for Online Ambassadors, and we want to check in and see how you're doing, what your opinions about where we are now, and any feedback you may have.
Please answer these questions either on my talk page or send them to me by email.
1. How many mentees are you currently working with?
2. Have you reached out to students who don't have mentors yet? If not, would you be willing to?
3. What do you think of the content of messages on the Google Group?
4. What do you think of the volume of messages on the Google Group?
5. Do you participate on the Google Group much? If not, what would make you participate more?
6. Are there any problems you've experienced so far?
7. Is there anything else Sage or the rest of the Public Policy Initiative team could do to make your experience as an Online Ambassador better?
8. Are you okay sharing your username with your answers to our Public Policy Initiative team, or would you prefer to remain anonymous?
Thanks for your feedback! --Ldavis (Public Policy) (talk) 19:31, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Possible GA
Hi Sonia! I'm thinking of nominating The Last Song (film) for GA. Could you take a look at the article and tell me what you? I've looked around for any other significant contributors to discuss it with, but Liquidluck seems to be the only one and they haven't edited since July. Thanks, PrincessofLlyr royal court 12:54, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Princess, haven't talked to you in a while. The article looks to be in reasonably good shape- needs a minor copyedit, though. I don't have much time to give it more than a once-over this weekend, but from a quick glance it looks to be nearly ready. That said, I am familiar neither with the subject matter nor with GA reviewing, so I may not be the best person to ask. sonia♫ 10:03, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

- Few comments without reading the article. 1) Two pieces of non-free content that are very similar. Eliminate one, per NFCC 3(a) and 8. 2) Bare URL refs, you've got a few. 3) What is up with ref 8? 4) Redlinked categories = bad. 5) Citing IMDb is a bad idea. GA reviewers don't care for it, and FAC won't stand for it. 6) This, "The Last Song was released on DVD and Blu-ray on August 17, 2010, and on 6 September 2010 in the UK. It was released in Australia on August 4. As of October 20, 2010, The Last Song DVD has sold 1,268,724 copies in the US, making $23,050,506. (More than the $20 millions budget) http://www.the-numbers.com/movies/2010/LSONG-DVD.php" is funky. Rewrite. 7)General grammar check, sentences like , "Metacritic, which assigns normalized ratings to films, The Last Song holds a "generally unfavorable" score of 33% based on 27 reviews." are missing at least one word. 8)Deseret News should be italicised like the other newspapers. 9) If this ever goes to FAC, File:WhenILookatYouPerformance.jpg will give you problems relating to it being a derivative work. A GA reviewer would be within bounds to question it, though most aren't that up-to-speed on images. 10)The "Charts" section, don't use a table to present a single piece of information. Use prose instead. 11) "in Tybee Island" sounds strange. Usually in Colonial English we would say "on Tybee Island"... and I would know, it's only two hours from where I sit. No one in Savannah would use such a phrase. Islands are on, cities are in. 12) Check your perspective in the plot section. Find some good film FA's and find how they present the plot, and learn from them. Talking about "three years ago" was what kind of raised my eyebrow here. And.... that's enough for now. Courcelles 06:10, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
- Wow. Thanks, I was actually thinking about asking your opinion after I'd done some work. As I noted to Sonia, I am technically on (semi) wikibreak (and trying really hard to keep to it), so I'll look at these when I'm officially back. I'm just afraid that if I start working on one thing, then I'll get caught up and won't be able to stop! Anyway, I should be back in a week or two and will probably be coming to you for more advice/critiquing. PrincessofLlyr royal court 15:36, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

- Not to dampen anyone's spirits, but to be brutally honest, I think you would get opposes related to a perceived abundance of myspacing, Sonia. While your other qualities would make it close, I don't think it's possible for you to pass right now. Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Too Outrageous! is on a marginally but sufficiently notable film but I agree that the article needs improvement. I've added two award nominations. Avenida de Colores, Inc. notable?
Hello Sonia,
I received a notice that the page I created (my first, sorry, sorry, just learning) was not notable and I was hoping to discuss that with you.
I have a lot more references if that is what it needs. I did not want to load it up with tons but maybe I should add others aside from just our largest newspaper in the area - there were several different authors?
The notable part is that this was the very first International Street Painting Festival in the United States (history made)... which is notable as street painting has been in America for a little over 20 years and this is the first one... in fact street painting, which is an Italian 16th century art form is becoming quite popular in America with many prominent street painters emerging... making upward of $100,000 per installation. This area of Wiki is quite weak in information... in fact the street painting page is a little weak. This festival even had the very first day/night street painting EVER created - the artist was Edgar Mueller who is one of the most prominent street painters in the world.
I was hoping to do a page on the festival too and get more into the details of the groundbreaking art created and the international aspect of the festival. The festival was the first to have 3 oversized 3D installations which is not well discussed on wiki. This is a cultural performance art that has some very notable contemporary movements.
Anyway, let me know. Thank you tons! Tra —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tra4691 (talk • contribs) 14:02, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Tra, thanks for getting back to me. No worries about it being your first article- mine was (and still is) absolutely dismal and did not have any sources at all. It sounds like you have a lot of knowledge Wikipedia could benefit from. If you wish to expand any of the other street-painting related pages, by all means feel free to do so! Don't worry too much about formatting for starters- as long as it's sourced, others can follow up on the formatting.
- The reason why I put the article on hold questioning notability was because its primary focus appears to be the festival and not the non-profit; the hold reason links to the guidelines for non-profits which are as follows:
Organizations are usually notable if they meet both of the following standards:
- The scope of their activities is national or international in scale.
- Information about the organization and its activities can be verified by multiple, third-party, independent, reliable sources. (In other words, they must satisfy the primary criteria, above.)
- It is unclear to me if the organization meets the former criteria, or any of the exceptions on the page I've quoted from, as most of the sources are from that local newspaper. If you could clarify the extent to which this organization has received national or international coverage, that would satisfy my concerns. To be accepted, the article about the organization needs to be neutral; and as I've said above, it should focus on the non-profit and not on the festival. However, the festival itself (provided it has received more than just local coverage) would be notable enough for an article of its own- I'd be happy to help you create one. Thanks for your interest in adding information to Wikipedia, and I hope that I can carry on working with you on this! sonia♫ 05:52, 8 December 2010 (UTC)
Thank you Sonia, I am just reading this and am exhausted. I did do a little more work on the non-profit page as I thought that was important being the organization that actually does the festival. The organization does a lot of other things but the creation of this particular event is what we felt was historic. Then I thought we could expand the information about the festival on its own page. It appears to be the way I saw other notable things referenced on wiki but I am open to suggestions. It just seemed the most logical step to me... which could be completely wrong. I will try to work on it tomorrow. It is amazing how difficult the simplest of things can feel and I thank you for helping me through it. Fondly, Tra4691
