Your COA Images

your SVG-Images are really fabulous, but the COA of the Napoleonic Empire has a small error: The arches consist of eagles, similar to those in the crown of Empress Eugenie depicted here [1]. Thanks for your help, but isn't it the crown from the Second Empire?, my COA was for the First Empire but soon enough I will convert the First Empire COA to the second and will use your picture in it. Thanks for the help. (Sodacan)

Well, as far as I know it from my (german-language) sources (for example [2], the crown was created as heraldic imperial crown for the first empire. The second Empire used the crown again for this purpose, but created also a real existing imperial crown with the same design (along with the still today existing crown of the empress which survived the downfall of the empire because it was paid by private means. Nevertheless, i have small remarks about thoses arms (french imperial and italian one).

• First aval, the two branch of Legion d'honneur are not the same. One is oaks, the other laurels. You can see a lot of details here.
• A second remark is about the crown. The french imperial crown is made of eagles. In your drawing currently, it seems peacocks.. ;-) (you can see a good example of the crown i think on the legion d'honneur picture).
• The third point is a heraldic one. You use in the blazons shaded off colors. It look really great, but it's a historical mistake. The heraldic rules use only plain colors. For example, the red in the italian balzon have to be plain red. You can use a light effect on all the blazon.. no problem of that.

I have found this File:Armoirie Napoléon Ier N&B.jpg from an old french book of 1854.you can follow the link i give in the description to find a good old book of french heraldry It is given inside this book as the COA of Napoleon I, II and III. I will look to others historical representation in order to know if you have to adapt your drawing or not. (I see commons:Category:Symbols of Napoleon I of France and find stone blazon too).
I have another remark about the ermine spot you use on the mantle you draw. It seems that for mantle, there is no use of such heraldic ermine spots, but a more realistic drawing, like you can see in the File:Armoirie Napoléon Ier N&B.jpg, or like this one file:Manteau pairfrance.svg. ---Strogoff- (talk) 00:02, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Yeah! It's very good. But there are some diferences between the original arms and this one. It doesn't matter for me, but it's very important for Wikipedia. You've made the arms very well. Only I'm quite curious when we should use the Constitution (the official English Translation) and when we should use Royal Institute Thai-Eng dictionary [3]. Royal Arms of Siam

RE:ธงชัยเฉลิมพล

1. The Buddha images at the finial of Thong Chai Chalermphol (the unit colours, as translate in Royal Thai Armed Forces) is called พระยอดธง. It's a Buddha image with a cog for fix it with the flag staff. For the Thong Chai Chalermphol, this Buddha image is fixed in ซุ้มเรือนแก้ว (I don't know how to translate into English). You can see the design here (it's a small photo but it's a most clearly one I can find in Thai website.)
   P.S. The finial of the Thai naval unit colours is a standing three-headed elephant under the royal crown. More details are available in กฎกระทรวง (พ.ศ. 2524) ออกตามความในพระราชบัญญัติธง พ.ศ. 2522 เรื่อง กำหนดส่วนประกอบของธงชัยเฉลิมพลของทหารบก ทหารเรือ ทหารอากาศ (text only).
2. For the royal guard's colours, our national flag defaced with a white elephant in red rectangular and the king's royal cypher, the text around the king's royal cypher is the name of royal guard's unit. I have a book called ตำนานทหารมหาดเล็ก (the History of 1st Infantry Regiment, King's Own Bodyguard). Inside that book show the royal guard's colours of 1st Infantry Battlion 1st infantry Regiment King’s Own Bodyguard . The writing in this flag is Thai text read "กองพันทหารราบที่ ๑ กรมทหารราบที่ ๑ มหาดเล็กรักษาพระองค์". So when you create this flag into SVG format, Please note that is an example writing because there are 4 battalions in the 1st Infantry Regiment, King's Own Bodyguard.

Imperial Coat of Arms of France (1804-1815)

You have made a very good version of the Napoleon coat of arms. However, the head of the imperial eagle should be facing sinster, not dexter as almost all other animals in heraldry tends to do. /B****n (talk) 23:26, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Lions and cats

Hi Sodacan. I just noticed the Lions in heraldry article. Your example gallery of lions is fantastic and looks very professional. I was hoping, if had the time, you could draw a few similar images of heraldic cats. There are a couple clan crest badges which feature cats and i don't think i'm ever going to be able to hunt down out-of-copyright images to use. Could you try and draw some of these cats? Here's the description of the crest, with an image to help visualise.

1. A cat-a-mountain sejuant guardant Proper, his dexter fore-paw on the ground, his sinister in a guardant posture and his tail reflexed under his sinister paw. image
2. A cat sejant Proper. image

Thanks Sodacan. Yep no worries use anything. Some of the crests we've using in the badges aren't all that great, and we're missing quite a few too. So if you ever want to take a crack working on them, have at it. I'd be cool to have a full set of badges eventually. The font i used in inkscape was 'Bitstream Vera Sans', bold, and for the most part sized 110.--Celtus (talk) 04:38, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

1. Macgillivray
2. Macpherson (i've already got one for this clan but it sucks, you can overide it if you want, or just create a new badge and we'll use yours)

Thanks Sodacan. They turned out great. Probably the best ones we've got since you specially made them for the badges. I'm not sure about the Inkscape problem. I think it may be something, though i'm not sure how to explain this. What i have to do when using text in an svg is, once it looks ok in the image, i select the text and press ctrl-shift-c. This seems to convert the text into an image (so you can't format the text as text anymore). But when the svg is saved, the image and text comes out looking proper. I can't explain it much better than that. Maybe that's the problem. Anyways i added the mottoes to your badges. If ever you want to fix or re-do existing crest badges (some are pretty ugly), or fill in some the missing ones - help yourself! There's no time limit, its just for fun really. Graphic Request

Hello Sodacan,

Excuse me for bothering you with this request, but you are one of the best SVG-artists when it comes to heraldy in the commons-community. If it would be possible for you, could you perhaphs create a vector image of the Austrian Imperial Crown? It's often used in coats of arms and flags relating the the House of Habsburg and the Holy Roman Empire, so having a vector version would be great.

The two images below might be used as examples.

Reusing images

I'd like to reuse some (6-10) of your attitude images in a book I'm rewriting, on the vanity press (i.e. very limited in production). Clearly, CC-BY-SA allows me to reuse this with attribution, and a similar license (no problems on the latter). The point about the former is that I'd usually use a username and then the image URLs as fair attribution; since I can contact you, I thought I'd ask whether a) you'd like your actual name (no need to post here, email me using the feature on here), and b) there was one URL that could supersede the 6 to 10 others, for sake of simplicity and page area.
