Duplicate images uploaded

Terry Anderson (politician)

The page history [1] shows it was redirected by User:Bearcat who can be contacted at User talk:Bearcat. [2] shows Bearcat made other similar redirects. Maybe Wikipedia:Notability (people) played a role. The article had no source independent of the subject. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:03, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Our inclusion guidelines don't say that city councillors are automatically entitled to inclusion in Wikipedia — they actually state that a distinction can be drawn between notable and non-notable municipal politicians. The article didn't have any independent sources — the only source was his own website — and it basically read more like a campaign brochure than an actual encyclopedia article.

If you think he's notable enough for an article because of his term on Hamilton City Council, you're free to write a new one, but I'd ask you to read a few of our guidelines first: reliable sources (i.e. making sure that you cite newspaper articles or radio/TV news reports about him, and not just his own website), neutral point-of-view (i.e. making sure the article doesn't sound like it was written by Terry himself), notability (i.e. making sure the article properly explains why he's notable enough to be on here).

I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but too many politicians of all stripes (left, right, middle, Rhino, whatever) seem to think that they can just repost their campaign literature on Wikipedia as if it were just a public relations database — but it isn't. It's an encyclopedia, and that means we have to worry about things like the quality of our articles. If you can write a new article that meets those guidelines better than the first one did, then by all means, feel free. Bearcat (talk) 03:40, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
