Thanks for the advice! edit

Hi Smomo,

Thanks for giving me the heads up. I'm just trying to publish general information on this company. Where would I submit or add my secondary sources? Thanks again! I look forward to hearing from you. --Cma1984 15:54, 5 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Doctor Who WikiProject Award edit

Hi, Smomo. I forgot to ask — is the police box image you used to create the awards a free one? (That is, did you get it from a BBC photograph, or from a freely licensed photo somewhere?) If it's not freely licensed, we can't use it (per the fair use policy, which allows fair use of copyrighted images only in article space). If it is a BBC copyright image, you might want to look for a photo on Flickr — there might be one from an exhibition somewhere or something. Thanks! —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 17:53, 23 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is the exact URL of the image I used, http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/gallery/s2_10gallery/1024/tardis.jpg and this is the URL of the gallery it comes from, http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/gallery/tardis/index.shtml . I'm not sure myself if these are licensed, could you have a look for yourself? If not, I am very sorry and I shall begin searching for a unlicensed image immedieatly. :) Smomo 21:12, 24 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
No, I'm afraid those are BBC copyright, so they can't be used outside of article space. :( Sorry! I should have thought of that before submitting it to the awards people. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 22:19, 25 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
:( I'll see what I can do by finding some sort of alternative. Smomo 14:40, 27 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Smomo. Thanks for contacting Rob Semenoff, and getting the TARDIS images released. Did he actually say that he releases them into the public domain (as the image license now indicates)? His main page now says that all the images are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 2.5 — which I think is not free enough for Wikipedia use, per Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Deprecated#Non-free Creative Commons licenses. The sticking point, I believe, is the "Non-Commercial" part — Wikipedia requires that images can be used for commercial downstream uses, even though Wikipedia itself isn't commercial. Of course, if Rob said that these particular images are public domain, that's fine. Either way, thanks for contacting him! You've gone above and beyond the call of duty on this one. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 01:55, 21 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, again. Well basically, I asked him 'Will you release this under the public license' and he said the equivalent of 'yes ok', so yes, this image is free use. Smomo 17:21, 21 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • The idea was approived and it was posted on the page. --evrik (talk) 20:51, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the award, Smomo! I'm sorry I was tardy in replying to you — I was quite distracted by the Essjay affair. I promise that I didn't push for the WikiProject award so that I could get another barnstar! Anyway, thanks for creating such a lovely award. (I'd award it back to you myself, but I'm worried that it might look a bit incestuous — but you certainly deserve it!) —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 08:13, 3 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Resp edit

Hello, I found confusion in the bizarre statement on yours and JameiLe's pages. It looks like legitimate vandalism. You are not allowed to have personal attacks on your pages. If you want to continue to edit on Wikipedia I strongly recommend that you remove those sentiments from your page. I've seen users blocked for much less. Dfrg.msc 00:18, 10 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Lmao, you should have seen my user page before I reverted it, that guy put a template saying I was a sockpuppet of you.I guess you can check the history of my page. The reason he had was 'they have similar contributions'. Apparently, two people who like the same things and are friends is uncommon on wikipedia. <:) JameiLei 13:12, 10 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
OI dont do that now it looks like you are my sockpuppet! Smomo 13:14, 10 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thankyou for removing those words on your page. I placed the Sockpuppet tag on your page because you do look like sock puppets, as a show of good faith I will not re-instate them. I appreciate that you may have similar interest and themes, but to me it looks as two accounts are being managed by one person, as evidenced by, yes, similar contributions and less than 200 edits between the two accounts. Prove me wrong with your editing. Also, I do not enjoy editing other users pages, but I have every right to do so if the action is deemed appropriate in Wikipolicy or concern for the security of the encyclopedia. Making threats against me does not in anyway endear you.
By the way, when I first came here, I was accused of sockpupperty too. Dfrg.msc 22:58, 10 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Citations question edit

Hi, Smomo. What they're asking for is that the references to television stories, instead of just having a link to the Wikipedia article, have a footnote with a full citation, probably using {{cite episode}}. Take a look at Dalek to see some examples. The only problem with {{cite episode}} is that it doesn't allow citation of multi-episode serials, so you may have to do that manually (see here for my unsuccessful attempt to get someone who understands the syntax to adapt it for our purposes).

There are probably other statements in the article that could use references as well: items from the novels could use {{cite book}}, for example, and there are also general works about the Time Lords (such as John Peel's Gallifrey Chronicles book from the early '90s) that could be used for citations. This is something we need to do for our FAs as well (the standards for citation are stricter than they used to be when our articles were promoted). Thanks for chipping in — I really appreciate it! —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 18:58, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Commons barnstar edit

Hello Smomo, I hope you are doign well. Support is building for the Wikipedia Commons Barnstar now that some modifications have been made to its scope. A request has been made for a tweak to the image.[1] The request is to add a thin white boundary between the Commons logo and the Barnstar itself. Would you be able and willing to perform that modification? If so, you can just replace the original image with the new one. I think if we do this that there will be enough support to get this approved. Johntex\talk 16:48, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Blast furnace edit

Would you care to take another look at the Blast furnace article? I have expanded on modern furnaces per your recommendations. Thanks for reviewing! --Grimhelm 22:36, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:Msncompanion.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Msncompanion.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 17:08, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Advice on the Awards wikiproject edit

It requires a 3rd party to mediate, perhaps. I can't exactly tell what is going on right now, but I think it's between Evrik, Dev920, and others. I would recommend a mediation at the medcab and if that doesn't work, possibly move it up. That's my advice :) GofG ||| Contribs 22:58, 7 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikiproject Awards edit

Thanks for the note. I stopped editing for a long time because of the way people treat each other here. I am back right now because I think that there are some fundmental problems with the way things work around here. I am angered by Dev920's blatant abuse of the system (who the f--- files three notices at the ANI in a week?), and her power grab. Evrik worked long and fairly to make sure that the system was working and repeatedly asked for everyone's help. After the dust settles, I am contemplating leaving Wikipedia for good.

This should have been mediated long before it was brought to the administrators. I've now been mentioned three times at the ANI this week - and I don't think it's fair. --South Philly 13:57, 8 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Anon: Welcome edit

When welcoming new users who don't yet have accounts, it is best to suggest that they create one. Standard greetings for this purpose include {{anon-welcome}} and {{anon}}. JameiLei 16:35, 11 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Image tagging for Image:Funkymodem.png edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Funkymodem.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

Purple star edit

Hello. Apparently I missed the discussion about the enhancement to Image:Purple Star.png. Since you edited this image, perhaps you could point it to me? Thanks. Regards, Húsönd 18:44, 19 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Informal mediation edit

Do you still feel mediation is needed? I was reviewing your request and looked over the page and while it got very nasty for a period of time, things seem to have cooled off and been left behind. Is this correct? Or is the acrimony still an on-going issue? Vassyana 18:37, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

No problem. If it becomes an issue again in the future, let me know and I will reopen the case. Be well!! Vassyana 20:13, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Elder Scrolls Project edit

I noticed you have frequently been removing one user from the list of Elder Scrolls participants, the reason you provided being bad grammar. Fair enough, his comments are not the most grammatically correct, but do you really need to remove his name as well? I would like an explanation of your actions, if that wouldn't trouble you too much. Smomo 20:58, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry for also removing his name; I guess I just didn't think about it. Please accept my apologies, --HubHikari 01:33, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
No problem, it's an easy mistake to make. :) Smomo 10:08, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

A Barnstar for you edit

  The Working Man's Barnstar
You are exactly the type of person I was hoping would join WP:AWARDS after my efforts to shake things up. Thank you for being such a great contributor. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 01:39, 8 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I was really into Spiro too, but after Insomniac sold it, Enter the Dragonfly was just crap (the entire game would have fitted into one level of the original) and I haven;t bought one since. Shame, really, I hope they'll beef it up again one day... Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 01:39, 8 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wrestling barn star edit

What do you mean? That it should be called The Professional Wrestling Star? TJ Spyke 19:37, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

See the awards page. Barnstars don't have those really long names. They are supposed to be short, simple, and easy to understand. "The Wrestling Star" fits that, and is similar to other project barnstars. TJ Spyke 21:15, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I don't see anything wrong with having the name being similar to every other project barnstar. I have asked GIGGAS2 and Lakes if they have a problem with it (since GIGGAS proposed it and Lakes designed it). TJ Spyke 23:33, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rose Tyler edit

I was considering this article for Good Article Status, and have gone through copyediting to polish it. Could I have a second opinion as to weather it is of standard? JameiLei 18:19, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Is it a sufficient reference if the source is another Wikipedia article? Plus it's just doubling a bluelink. Personally I don't see the advantage in it; neither Doctor Who nor Doctor (Doctor Who) do it. JameiLei 23:07, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

New barnstar proposal edit

Hi, normally how long does it have to wait before a new barnstar will be approved and recognized as an official wikipedia barnstar? From Wikipedia:Barnstar and award proposals, I saw that there're some outstanding barnstar approval that everyone supports yet not approved after almost 2 months (e.g. the Religion and Spirituality barnstar). Ambulance Page edit

Hi there, thanks for reviewing the ambulance page. I think I have now fixed the areas of concern for you (along with adding more external references in other areas). Would you mind having another look at your convenience, and let me know if you think it needs anything else in order to bring it up to standard?

Don't worry edit

Don't let it get you down too much, and by all means, don't let this force you away from the project. Everything but the approval/rejection/voting can go on within the WikiProject and on the barnstar page. If you think that the GA award should be elsewhere, please do move it, I just put it where I thought the discussion said it should go. My objections over BAP go back awhile, I just didn't jump on the bandwagon or anything, just FYI. Hang in there. IvoShandor 15:40, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
