My request for bureaucratship

Dear Sluzzelin, thank you for taking part in my RfB. As you may know, it was not passed by bureaucrats.
I would, however, like to thank you for taking the time to voice your support, despite concerns cited by the opposition. Although RfA/B isn't really about a person, but more about the community, I was deeply touched and honoured by the outpouring of support and interest in the discussion. I can only hope that you don't feel your opinion was not considered enough - bureaucrats have to give everyone's thoughts weight.
I also hope that the results of this RfB lead to some change in the way we approach RfBs, and some thought about whether long-entrenched standards are a good thing in our growing and increasingly heterogenous community.
I was a little miserable after the results came out, so I'm going to spread the love via dancing hippos. As you do. :)

Thank you for the message re racist crypto trolling. I am, of course, aware of the "No Feeding" rule. As prejudicial, fundamentalist racist nonsense has not starved to extinction by feedback malnutrition, I think it is mandatory to make a brief (possibly curt) statement as to the unacceptable nature of such attitudes.

As you will know, I live in a country where - unfortunately - some 15% of the electorate seem to support a blatantly xenophobic Rattenfänger.

Out of curiousity, I always thought (and I think to have been taught so in the last millenium) that the Sluzzelin poem is by my late countryman Walther v. d. VW. Some sources say "Yea", some say "Nay". You state clearly on your page that the author is unknown. Is there (and why is there) a consensus on this ?

The Sluzzelîn poem is from Tegernsee Abbey. My Deutschlehrer always "knew" it was anonymous, but it is sometimes attributed to Wernher (or Werinher or Werner) von Tegernsee, though not a lot is known about him. As for Walther, he wrote the Tegernsee-Lied a little bit later (Ich bin ein wunderlicher man /daz ich mich selben niht enkan /verstan und mich so vil an frömde liute laze) ---Sluzzelin talk 05:07, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, sorry I didn't wish to interfere with your plans. Saw it via your diff at WP:RD/H and reverted the blankings before I saw your message at WP:ANI. Knee-jerk reflex.

I hope it goes away one day, but I'm pessimistic. I know it's the same editor, and he won't deny it, nor does he care. If necessary, I can go diff-hunting all the way back to Feb 2007. There were edits linking 71.100... to Barringa to Leasing Agent. I just don't know whether this is giving the attention he craves or whether anything useful might come of it. Sweet! I had seen the painting before, but had no idea where. His clothing was a good hint for the right period, and for some reason I thought Russian. I did some "portrait + ___" searches, and when I saw the faces and brown backgrounds at "portrait + kramskoy", I went straight to Olga's Gallery where I found it. Formatting nav box

Do you know how to format a nav box, i.e. the nav box in an article will not be collapsed always, the nav box will be always fully displayed. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 12:46, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Korovin Spring

I hoped it might help coax spring into visiting the Mittelland, but enough about the weather. Interesting association. I just compared their art at Commons ([1] [2]). I find Korovin's choice of hues quite remarkable, and though I love Spring in its entirety, I'm still ambivalent about that shade of Han Blue when the bottom half is cut off on my tiny screen. Here is an even more vivid example. Nothing beats a good old slave market, and speaking of Orientalism, thanks to WP I learned that Korovin designed the set for one of The Golden Cockerel's early performances. As a long-time lover of the "Hymn to the Sun", I'm now looking for sketches or photos of the grand Tsaritsa of Shemakha's costume. Maybe that will persuade the spring sun to stay. Funnily enough, I used to have a book of sketches of Ballets Russes costumes, but someone begged it from me. I think quite a lot of stuff like that has been published in the form of books, prints and posters, no doubt because the costumes are so gorgeous. If all else fails, I should think there's likely to be something in the collection of The Bolshoi, and no doubt it has some kind of librarian, but I don't know how obliging he or she might be. Ah, I misunderstood. You needn't get upset over this kind of edit war either though. This was neither a high-frequency talk- or project page, nor an article. I've quoted this before: WP:3RR says "Any editor who breaches the rule may be blocked from editing." Nowhere does it say they must be blocked. Well ... you didn't block, and I'm very glad you didn't, and I hope you won't ever block productive mainspace editors over a situation like this. I am not an administrator, and I don't envy them for all the heat, nonsense and abuse they sometimes experience. Yet I wish the announcement and execution of blocks were done far far far more cautiously when it comes to serious no nonsense contributors. This wasn't even a molehill, and it's a good thing it was stamped back into flatitude before it got a chance to grow. Yeah, I guess you're right that it's best to keep that one in the box, and I have tended lately to let it out, but that's what it is when one takes the slightest pretext to spew one's politics on the refdesks and spice one's remarks with a nod and a wink to terrorism just to stir things up. I would hope that such stuff-it-is-probably-better-not-to-call-trolling-but-is would gore every thinking person's ox as inappropriate for the reference desks, anyway.
