  • The global consultation on partial and temporary office actions that ended in October received a closing statement from staff concluding, among other things, that the WMF will no longer use partial or temporary Office Action bans... until and unless community consensus that they are of value or Board directive.

Advice needed. Vandalism appearing on page but not in source edit

@SlimVirgin: Hello Sarah, I was hoping to enlist your help with something or getting pointed in the right direction on getting help. I noticed some vandalism on the page Royal Proclamation of 1763. It is at the bottom of the page. I can't see it in the page source and believe it might be from a vandalized template. There is also some racist language appearing. I don't know how to correct this or if I even can (or should try with my limited experience). Any help or guidance is appreciated. Hope your day is going well   // Timothy::talk 01:52, 6 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • Got it. Thanks. Drmies (talk) 01:55, 6 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Moved ANI post edit

Hi SlimVirgin,

I've moved a post you made at ANI in the thread about FP@S and SilentResident. The way the thread has developed, your post was appearing to refer to a post / line of discussion started by GoodDay, which I believe is inaccurate... so I moved the post. I believe that this move is in line with the talk page guidelines, and I hope that it is acceptable to you. If it isn't, please revert my post.

Cheers,

EdChem (talk) 02:53, 12 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi EdChem, that's fine. Thanks for moving it and for taking the trouble to let me know. All the best, SarahSV (talk) 03:05, 12 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Place-naming edit

I'm glad you brought that up at WT:CITE, especially now when WT:MOSINFOBOX has a similar thread going. I've been thinking for a long time that what advice we have on this is unnecessarily scattered and inconsistent, and several operational norms haven't really be written down. I've suggested consolidating the basics at MOS:PLACE (thread at WT:MOS), so that any material in MOS:INFOBOX and WP:CITE (and MOS:ABBR, and MOS:LINKS, etc.) can mostly just cross-reference it instead of repeating the advice details (and possibly contradicting other pages) while focusing on context-specific matters (like redundant birth/nationality/citizenship stuff in infoboxes, or unhelpful publisher-location formatting in citations). I dropped off a pointer at WP:VPPOL to attract additional eyes and brains.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  04:40, 13 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi SMcCandlish, CITE is the guideline that discusses how to write citations. Editors can choose whatever style they want within reason, so it's just a question of succinctly describing the options. SarahSV (talk) 21:16, 13 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thanks edit

I just wanted to say thank you and send some encouragement for being willing to work on the Holocaust article. I know what a hornet's nest of controversy working on this article could become and that wouldn't be fun. I will do my best to help try and keep things positive, civil and productive (although I'm far from perfect). I'm sure you know a lot of people get their knowledge about the Holocaust from Wikipedia, so this is a very important article. If people get bad information about something like the Spanish American War, it doesn't really matter. The Holocaust is very different. I hope your day is going well.   // Timothy::talk  08:27, 13 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Timothy, thank you. What's happening there is very discouraging, so I really appreciate this note. All the best, SarahSV (talk) 20:34, 13 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
Your welcome :) I just added a tool that shows page statistics. I was expecting the Holocaust might get 10,000 views/month. I was shocked to see 344,441 views/month   // Timothy::talk  03:00, 14 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
Yup, it's a lot. Apparently it works out at 11,793/day for the last 30 days. This is why I've been trying to go through it to make sure everything's sourced to the most appropriate sources. But it's a lot of work, very time-consuming, so I'm pretty fed up at the moment. It will pass, I'm sure. SarahSV (talk) 03:23, 14 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Dershowitz GAN edit

Friendly notice: Dershowitz is up for GA and you and Harizotoh9 seem to be the biggest contributors (Harizotoh9 by number of edits; SV by size of content contributed). I was thinking about reviewing it, but will of course step aside if you wish to become involved. Cheers ♦ Lingzhi2 (talk) 03:02, 15 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

A barnstar for you! edit

I know it's frustrating to work on The Holocaust, but it's vitally important. You're doing excellent work. I've been trying to stay out of your way, but will be happy to weigh in on copyediting/etc when the polish stage starts. Let me know if you need anything from the sources - I've finally got the scanner up and running! Ealdgyth - Talk 20:47, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
Ealdgyth, thanks, this is very much appreciated. SarahSV (talk) 21:31, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Cheers edit

Damon Runyon's short story "Dancing Dan's Christmas" is a fun read if you have the time. Right from the start it extols the virtues of the hot Tom and Jerry

This hot Tom and Jerry is an old-time drink that is once used by one and all in this country to celebrate Christmas with, and in fact it is once so popular that many people think Christmas is invented only to furnish an excuse for hot Tom and Jerry, although of course this is by no means true.

No matter what concoction is your favorite to imbibe during this festive season I would like to toast you with it and to thank you for all your work here at the 'pedia this past year. Best wishes for your 2020 as well S. MarnetteD|Talk 22:35, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
