Thanks for the welcome. I've signed up because I want to create an article. I've written it and uploaded it. I thought I was putting it into my sandbox but the "publish" button keeps appearing so perhaps it's in some public space. I'm now going through setting up the References correctly by identifying the books I've listed (providing the ISBN numbers, etc.). I'm sure to need Teahouse help. My time is tight so I can't work on this every day but I will make time to finish the project.
As for more general editing, I'd never thought about doing it, though I've toyed with the idea of volunteering for the Smithsonian effort of digitizing handwritten, historical documents. With Wikipedia, I don't have lots of helpful knowledge to inject so it's never occurred to me volunteer. It's not clear to me what use I would be.
Regards,

All spaces are public, hence "Publish" instead of "Save" edit

Sandboxes are public, in that if an editor goes to your account and looks at contribution,s all edits are visible (exception being what Administrators have removed via Speedy deletion). The distinction is that Sandbox and Draft content is not found via internal nor external searches. David notMD (talk) 12:22, 1 January 2023 (UTC)Reply

User page edit

You have content intended for an article on your User page. Use WP:YFA to start a draft, and then transfer all that content to the draft. David notMD (talk) 12:28, 1 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
