Happy 4th of July! Independence Day! Yeah! Cheers and beers, buddy.--Pericles of AthensTalk 07:48, 4 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

That's fine man, always good to meet new folks. Have a fantastic 4th of July, eat to your heart's fullest content, light off as many fireworks as you possibly can, and honor the founding of our good nation, which may have its flaws from time to time, but at times we truly do take our freedom for granted. It's Independence Day! Time to celebrate. Cheers.--Pericles of AthensTalk 07:55, 4 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the info re. that idiot MascotGuy. The MO isn't the same and neither are the naming conventions, but it does look as if you found a typical garden variety vandal. Rollback edit

I noticed you had reverted vandalism from Marion Barry (thanks, btw), and after looking at your talk page archives/contributions, I'd suggest going to Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Rollback. Rollback edit

I have Attacker/July-September 2009 granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. –Juliancolton | Talk 21:14, 6 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

2009 in film edit

I have no idea how to type on here but I hope I get this right. My whole discussion with this person who kept reverting my changes (although it was mostly one-sided since he did not care at all) was that how does having it linked twice hurt anything? Sure, in a paragraph or anything along those lines, it would look ridiculous to post the same word or phrase as a link over and over again. But this is a table; big difference in my mind. Also the linking page says "tables, in which each row should be able to stand on its own." is an exception to the rule and I believe each row should stand on it's own. Someone should be able to see Star Trek on the table and immediately be able to see and click on a link to the studio that produced the film. Am I wrong or unreasonable in thinking so?

Answer edit

It's fine because it's the director's own personal blog. If it was just some average person's blog then it would be an issue.-5- (talk) 21:07, 11 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Start a discussion at Talk:Alice in Chains to get a consensus, but it appears the consensus is that they became inactive following Staley's death and the 2005 benefit show they played was their official reunion. But, I would start a discussion on their talk page if you have an issue with this.-5- (talk) 21:52, 12 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'll also add that up until Staley's death Cantrell made it known in interviews that the band had not broken up and that there was a possibility they could do something in the future. After Staley's death that was all thrown out the window as Cantrell continued with his solo career and there was no talk of all of Alice in Chains reuniting. The 2005 benefit appearance came as a shock because the band was by all accounts finished. There was no Alice in Chains between Staley's death and the 2005 benefit concert.-5- (talk) 21:59, 12 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Alright, Soundgarden is up for featured status.-5- (talk) 17:30, 13 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Re: Hottest 100 edit

Well, it looks like he's done the whole bloody 100. So I wouldn't really expect one editor to go through and do it all themself. It\s up to you really, but none of them should be in their own section, they should be placed on the end of the last section in the History really, with a reference (or this). RE: How's it going? edit

Hey Sky Attacker! My time at Wikipedia is going great. I've always liked Wikipedia when I noticed it about 3 years ago and it is easily my favorite website for research (even if it is considered "unreliable"). I finished creating player pages for the Philadelphia Eagles, and now I am going to start making coach pages.

I feel that more people are willing to add information to already-created Wiki pages than starting a new one, so I think I am helping out.

How about you?

Eagles247 (talk) 00:01, 4 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Seems like a waste of time to create Eagles related articles when the Cowboys are going to dominate the division this year. :) ChildofMidnight (talk) 01:10, 4 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Lawl, you make me lawl. What have the Cowboys done this offseason to make you think that? Getting rid of Owens? Drafting a kicker in the 5th round when you already have a good, young, Pro Bowl kicker? We have your old defensive coordinator, too. :D Eagles247 (talk) 05:17, 4 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I once thought of inviting him to participate and I did in fact invite him to do so, but to no avail. He has yet to place so much as a single keystroke on a talk page. I honestly don't know what to do here. I thought shaming him would work...nope. Same non-response. No one in the Foundation seems to be willing to actively pursue action against this cuckoo, so I guess we'll just have to keep tagging and bagging. Between you and I, I've had it with him. If the Foundation doesn't care, I'm about to stop doing so myself. Sigh. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 00:44, 21 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

You're absolutely right. Autistic or not, he's destructive as hell since he takes up so much volunteer time. What we need is someone willing to make a really tough choice and impose a huge rangeblock on the little idiot's IPs. A nice, long one. He'd been using a computer in an Apple Computer store at one time (I'm assuming the Fashion Valley store if he's still in San Diego and it is indeed possible to log onto Wikipedia from there since I once did so myself) and another at about the same time in some government building. Those were rangeblocked for a couple of months and all was blissful silence. What I wouldn't give for CU privileges. I tell you, I'd bury his IPs so fast his empty little head would spin. Thanks for getting my head back on straight.  :) --PMDrive1061 (talk) 01:08, 21 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't live in San Diego, but my sister, nephew and brother-in-law do and all of MG's early socks were coming out of San Diego. That's what led me to the assumption that he was operating out of the Fashion Valley Apple store; I was there with my brother-in-law when he bought his MacBook Pro. I'm assuming that's the only Apple store in the area, but I may be wrong. While he was buying, I was noodling online and the first thing I tried was logging to log onto this site, which I did successfully. As far as his mom is concerned, it was I under my old "Lucky 6.9" username who managed to contact her. One of his first socks was an e-mail address which is no longer valid. It may have been a ruse, however. I think it may well been ol' Derek D. himself. When he does take the time to write, he's remarkably lucid and articulate. So too was the e-mail explaining his condition. Anyway, we persist. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 07:08, 21 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Darwin Forest edit

Although I might be able to do this today, this is just a 'holiday park', a commercial venture, and I don't see it as notable enough for an article. Even worse, it calls itself a 'country park', and I was excited thinking I could walk my dogs there until I found out it wasn't a country park by UK standards, see [2]. I can't find a source singling out the woodlands as opposed to the commercial venture. Dougweller (talk) 05:18, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I visited it, it is a very nice holiday center with nice cabins, a fancy looking gym which must cater to more than just the residents, good activities for children, etc. It's in the woods, but I'd say it takes up a lot, probably most, of the 44 acres. There doesn't seem any evidence of a 'Darwin Forest' on its own, just this resort in the trees. Dougweller (talk) 17:20, 24 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

DSotM edit

Thank you for your help. This has nothing to do with ownership of an article. Its a simple matter of a user inserting what appears to be an unreliable source into articles that are either at WP:GAN, GA, or WP:FAC. The user clearly does not understand wp:reliable, or has not read it, despite my repeated requests to do so. Under his pre-reg IP, he also removed correctly-sourced material from DSotM, from a failure to comprehend the review, or its context.

He just needs a bit of guidance, that's all. I'd rather not see this escalate into anything untoward. Parrot of Doom (talk) 21:19, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

RE: MascotGuy edit

I know what you mean; I feel bad for PMDrive and I'm sure a lot of people are exasperated by MG. However, there's nothing practical that can be done. Rangeblocking is out of the question, since he uses a computer wherever he finds one/has an unlimited dynamic IP. We'd do a lot more collateral damage. And, even if we did rangeblock, I don't think that would stop anything. If MG does have autism (which I don't doubt, given his tenacity), then nothing will stop him. For some reason, he's got the urge to 'contribute' to Wikipedia in the manner he does. Nothing short of electroshock therapy will help that.
I'm sure we can manage him, though. We've got thousands of administrators who are able to deal with him. I feel bad for PMD, though. He's been through a lot with this dude. Master of Puppets - Call me MoP! :D 05:07, 6 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Seasons edit

There are traditionally four seasons, each of them three months long. Traditionally they run from the solstices to the equinoxes, and vice versa. The names of the seasons as we know them obviously originated in the northern hemisphere, and have been switched around for use in Australia and other English-speaking parts of the southern hemisphere. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 09:49, 6 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

The article also talks about the interpretation called "meteorological" seasons, which don't coincide with the equinoxes and solstices. But to me the traditional seasons make sense. Consider summer and winter in the north. The first day of the season is the solstice. Because of the lag or "latency" of heating and cooling, the hottest and coldest times, i.e. the "height" of summer and the "depth" of winter, occur about halfway into the respective season. After that, things slowly start to cool down or warm up. Makes perfect sense to me. I don't know why the weathermen see it differently. But what do they know anyway? :) Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 09:56, 6 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hi Sky. Are you aware of the "+" or "New section" tab at the top of (most) pages? This is quite useful for user talk pages for edits like this or [3], because the edit summary would then read "→User talk:-5-: new section" instead of (say) "→regarding someone regarding Kate bush's song "feel it" as an example of unrequited love". Got one. I'm rotten at filling out those refs...would you say the source is the Press Association, or pa.press.net? Abrazame (talk) 06:56, 11 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, to clarify I meant I "got" an RS for the book, not a photo. I hear ya about the photos. I can't believe Farrah Fawcett only has one picture. I have his CDs but I know CD covers are not generally welcome at bios. I'm going to have to read the Fair Use pages again to see what I might be able to do. But at the moment it's long past my bedtime. Your work on the article is appreciated. Abrazame (talk) 07:22, 11 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

All the best! edit

Enjoy real life. You'll be missed around here. Bongomatic 05:02, 14 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Had your page on my watchlist from our recent conversation and am sorry to hear of your retirement. It seems the people Wikipedia would be best off without are the ones who slug away madly in every respect, and those who contribute diligently and responsibly and with respect for accuracy even when they did not previously particularly know or care about the subject, as with your work on Gately, are the ones turned off. To improve the article about a person who has just died, for no reason other than that he has died, that is something I have great respect for. Still, speaking for myself, I think that devoting more of our on-line time to enhancing our own lives is probably the better expense of that time, so I don't blame you for making the choice you have. Goodbye and God bless. Abrazame (talk) 05:50, 14 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
Going to miss you around here! But as everyone else has said, do what is right for you. I'll continue the vandal fighting =D. Netalarmtalk 05:53, 14 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
You must do what you think is the right thing. I will miss your help on recent changes, though. Good luck to ya Tiderolls 10:18, 14 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sad to see you go, you did a lot of good work around here. Let me know if you make it back, we could use your help on the Bacon Challenge 2010.--kelapstick (talk) 18:06, 14 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

You WILL be missed. edit

I genuinely hope you reconsider and that we'll all have the pleasure of your company here on this site once again. All the best in whatever you decide to do and thank you for thinking of me. Warmest regards, --PMDrive1061 (talk) 22:50, 14 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
