I am curious how I can add images correctly that I have taken of various cities to show what the cityscape/skyline looks like. I noticed that some cities wiki pages have an images section. I would like to add images to show what the city looks like. Thanks! SkiEngineer (talk) 23:24, 19 November 2019 (UTC)
- First step is to upload the photos to Wikimedia Commons, to get started see c:Commons:First steps. In some places, there's an issue of c:Commons:Freedom of panorama that may restrict what you can show.
- Once the file is safely uploaded at Commons, you can link to it from the article in question with code like
[[File:CitySkyline.jpg]]. - Feel free to ask for more help at the Teahouse. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 01:18, 20 November 2019 (UTC)
- There are two problems I have with your additions. First, the size. Second, what point in the article are they supposed to illustrate? And last, both appear to be professional photos. Unless you personally took the photos in question, and are willing to essentially surrender all rights to the image, you cannot use them. John from Idegon (talk) 01:37, 20 November 2019 (UTC)
- @John from Idegon: I have contacted the photographer as noted in the EXIF info in the files, and it checks out - the uploader is the photographer. Also, skyline panoramas are generally acceptable in articles on cities. Perhaps look into reducing the image sizes?
