Ethelyn Gibson

The refusal to accept Draft:Ethelyn Gibson shocks me and appears counter to policy. Would you be able to help dig up some good nespaper coverwge of her so she can move to mainsapce? Thanks! In the Lord Heath source her original family bame is said to be Strouse. And he parents and siblings are identified. I'm not sure how reliable that source is considered but it seems legit. Can we (ie. you) confirm? FloridaArmy (talk) 02:28, 17 December 2021 (UTC)

@FloridaArmy: There's a list of sources at the bottom of that article, so I'd just use those instead. It looks like the family stuff came from the FamilySearch website, which contains census information. Which is reliable, yes. I'd just cite it directly rather than this other person's personal site. @FloridaArmy: I do wonder about the family name "Strouse", as well as the date of death - I can't find an Ethelyn (or Ethel) Strouse in Ancestry.com or FamilySearch records that was born in Ohio in 1897. There are a couple Ethel Gibson's born that year in Ohio, but none that seem related to a "Strouse" name (and no way to tell if any are her). I believe the 1897 Ohio birth is correct, since a 1920 census that includes her and her husband says she was born in Ohio, and specified her age as 23 (and there was at least one newspaper article that referred to her as 14 in 1911[1]).

Since I can't find it in other sources, I feel like it's likely that the "Strouse" name originated from a marriage index between a "Roy Weisberg" and an "Ethelyn Strouse" on January 22, 1916, from Cook County, Illinois. It's possible they were married there, since Chicago is where Weisberg/West was from in the U.S. However, unless we can verify that that was the date of their marriage, I think it's better not to include the name Strouse - I'm just not sure if that's the same Ethelyn or not.

Other than that, the lordheath website mentioned the date of 1972 death was incorrectly written in sources. I know this book mentions that death date, but I'm not super sure where the date originally came from. So if it isn't widely printed or there aren't other sources other than that one, I might err on the side of caution with that too and remove it from the article. But I think that date could go either way - so, thoughts? - Whisperjanes (talk) 06:19, 17 December 2021 (UTC)

Wow, this one is really hard. I tried to see if I could make any connections between Horatio/Robert/Ruben Strouse and Ethelyn Gibson. Nothing at all in any sources. Tried to find an obit for Billy West and no go on that either. Found this which says she made the first sound serial. Looking for a non-snippet view so I could backtrack to the source (footnote 22) I found this link, but can't get to the notes or 386. I found an alternate copy of that source here, but it requires a program called DJVU to open the formatting. I have no clue what that is. According to this she produced that sound serial for Gibson Productions. This may have a bio on her. Perhaps research exchange or clicking on one of the "ask a librarian" links here might get you pages 98 and 99. Gotta go. My mom is enroute to the ER. SusunW (talk) 16:17, 17 December 2021 (UTC)

Both seem to have not so many theater and film credits but they span several years and were in significant productions. Open to your thoughts. I was thinking I might have to merge one or both. Hello to you too @Missvain, Sorry for the late response, I’ve been down with Malaria, in the last five days, it was quite serious, I couldn’t move or eat in five days just got better today, coming from here which indicated that the same editor created all the articles, this led to the mass nomination I did here, now I think we are forgetting a basic principle for bundle nominating, which is, we bundle nominate when dealing with article spamming/spam articles which the aforementioned report clearly indicated. Since I commented on it as a participant (as opposed to a reviewer) I'll leave it to the closing admin to decide what the best process is for them. Regardless of who the article creator is (even if they are banned, sometimes they create articles for notable subjects whether we like it or not), I prefer to review most articles individually. Malaria is actually a terrible ailment I appreciate your sympathy, I understand your concerns, mass nominations are quite daunting, you are correct, but i checked the articles and they all reeked of UPE and were using the same “Reference trickery” in all the articles where they cleverly use good Nigerian sources but almost all the reliable sources are “unreliable pieces” in almost all the articles. I deemed it bad faith editing & an attempt to game the system, but all the same Missvain, I indeed hear & understand you when you say individual nominations are easier to follow. @Celestina007 I choose not to do so. I prefer less confrontational methods. I think "have to be reported" are stronger sentiments than I have about it. I see it as a strongly held view, but expressed in a manner not to my taste. I have objected. They have not retracted, but that is unimportant to me. They know my views, even if they disagree with them. The old adage of "Least said, soonest mended" holds true here.

Your userpage redirect

May I ask why your userpage redirects to User:Silver seren/Userpage? More specifically, I request that you undo that; it breaks the popular User:PleaseStand/userinfo.js script, which assumes your user page is not a subpage. Making it worse, you've apparently got some custom CSS which eliminates or obscures the automatically generated link back to the source of a redirect. We generally give people wide latitude to do whatever they want with their userpages, but what you've got here is breaking useful functionality. -- RoySmith (talk) 16:03, 26 December 2021 (UTC)

It used to be fairly common (like over a decade ago) to have a cool splash image link on your userpage that led into your actual page (which is the one at /Userpage). But eventually the 3D animation I had for that stopped working because of other changes to Wikipedia and, since everything was already at /Userpage, I just redirected my username page to that. And I didn't put together the CSS accomplishing all of that, someone else did it for me. Anyways, RoySmith, what exactly is this script you're talking about and what does it do? It adds a heading with some quick summary stats for the user. For example, on your real userpage (for which I had to manually construct the url (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Silver%20seren&redirect=no) to be able to see, it adds An autopatrolled user, extended confirmed user, pending changes reviewer, and rollbacker, 15 years 6 months old, with 33,115 edits. Here's what I found, Thriley. A lot more for the Pensions In Crisis book than the other one. And some of these are going to need ProQuest access to see, but the full article is there.

You can still edit, DaffodilOcean, just do individual additions, not the entire page. It was inevitable that other people were going to start editing the page to improve it once it was added to Articles for Deletion, so trying to make long whole page changes was going to end up with edit conflicts with other people. You should add in any improvements/changes you wanted in steps. I saw the part in your version describing the research she does, that would be good to add again. June Preston

@Silver seren: You seem to leaving dodgy and slightly agressive comments on the June Preston and it says above your an "administrator without tools". These were SPS sources, as often they are created by an amalgamation of other sources, in part, for presentation on pinterest. Pinterest doesn't do any checking of sources, so they are suspect at best. Often removing the url doesn't fix the problem. I don't think you see that. You seem have a habit of doing it. What are you talking about, @Scope creep:? They are news articles published in newspapers from around the world. They aren't SPS sources in the slightest. The Pinterest images of the clippings of the news articles were just a courtesy for readers, since the articles aren't otherwise available online due to not being from digitized papers. But they are still perfectly normal and valid references to normal news coverage of the subject. What exactly do you think an SPS source is? Silverseren^C 01:29, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

New Chapter

Hi Silver, can you take a look at New Chapter? I made a quick stub for it recently with the idea I’d go back later to improve it, but it was quickly nominated for deletion. It’s a major maker of organic vitamins and supplements with their products found at Whole Foods etc. It’s definitely a bit woo, but is indeed a major part of the organic supplements world. Indeed. Not at the moment. Its often seems to be like that. It is NASA, so the info is hidden in the massive bureaucracy of that system. There is no doubt she culturally significant as I recognise a lot of her work, from reading NASA missions when I was younger.
