Speedy deletion nomination of Nikki forrest edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Nikki forrest requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. --allthefoxes (Talk) 21:37, 5 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Note by reviewing administrator: as it stands, this page qualifies for speedy deletion because, as explained above, it does not explain why she is important or significant enough to have an article. Wikipedia's inclusion criterion is called Wikipedia:Notability, and is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Youtube, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people not connected with the subject thought it significant enough to write substantial comment about? See also Wikipedia:Notability (summary) and WP:ARTIST.
References are not essential when an article is first posted, but it does need to give some indication of why the subject might be notable in Wikipedia's sense, and adding references at first posting helps to avoid premature deletion.
It is a good idea to work on an article in a "userspace draft" until it is fleshed-out enough to avoid speedy deletion. Rather than delete this one, I have "userfied" it to User:SignalLight525/Nikki Forrest where you can work on it (note that I have capitalised the F of Forrest). When it is ready, clicking the blue "Submit" button at the top will send it to WP:Articles for creation, where an experienced user will review it and either accept it or give you feedback.
There is good advice at WP:Your first article. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 23:08, 5 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Eve Egoyan edit

I have done the same for this one - see User:SignalLight525/Eve Egoyan. Even for a stub, you really have to say something more about your subject than that she exists. To quote WP:STUB:

"When you write a stub, bear in mind that it should contain enough information for other editors to expand upon it. The key is to provide adequate context—articles with little or no context usually end up being speedily deleted."

The threshold to avoid speedy deletion is "any credible claim of significance or importance", but it is safer to go beyond that and try to demonstrate actual notability at the outset.

When you start a new article, until you have more experience I recommend clicking on Help:Userspace draft and filling in the title. That will make you a draft page where you can work on the article until it is ready. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 23:28, 5 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Somebody has created an article for Eve Egoyan in the meantime. Your draft has some details missing from the new article such as viaf & dob. I'd copy the details across but that would rob you of the credit you deserve for your work. Please add the details to Eve Egoyan. Regards, Bazj (talk) 23:54, 17 December 2015 (UTC)Reply
