Reqphoto

Your {{reqphoto}} at red tape was likely removed for a few reasons:

1. The template specifically says "put this on the talk page only". It makes articles look particularly unsightly.
2. Previously, somewhat problematic users have made the majority of their contributions in the form of improperly placing {{reqphoto}} and {{expand}} without themselves ever adding photos or new content (a little quid pro quo courtesy is generally expected). Consequently, some users remove such edits unless they're accompanied by explanations, new content, or the like.
3. (and this is why I've removed this specific instance) There's no apparent rationale for a photograph of a metaphor. If you've got a good idea of what this entails, then please add it to Talk:Red tape along with an explanation of an appropriate photo.

Feed the Children

There are likely hundreds of thousands of subjects that aren't yet covered on Wikipedia. Complaining that an article doesn't yet exist likely won't get you anywhere. Simple English Wikipedia is not just for children

Freshstart is right (see his comment). Even though children are welcome to visit Simple English Wikipedia, and are currently considered part of the target audience, they are not our only audience, and therefore changing the design to be more child-focused would be inappropriate. But as regards Arabic Wikipedia, I see what Shultz IV is saying. He is saying that the background picture on that Wikipedia is not the same as the one here, with a sort of arabesque-style pattern visible. Columns

To do columns you might want to try a simple table. You can find some general information about tables at WP:TABLE, which contains links to tools that can convert HTML tables to wiki markup (if you know how to write tables in HTML). Help:Table on the meta-wiki contains detailed information about creating tables using wiki markup.

There may be another way to do columns, but if there is I'm not aware of it.

"Latinitas huius permaxime corrigenda est. Corrige vel rescribe si possis." The latin of this article seriously needs fixing. Correct or rewrite, if you are able.

maxcorrigenda is shorthand for the former, and also the name of the template we use at la. dubcat, likewise, is shorthand for the latter.

No, there is no good English-Latin machine translator. Either learn the language, or ask someone to do it.

Regarding your formatting: en's templates don't work at la, unless we have copied them. If we have, they will be under latin names... thus Formula:Expand Formula:Reqphoto Formula:Attention Formula:Wikify, etc, do not work.

I've restored the proposed deletion tag at the above article. WP:WEB has a couple of relevant notes, I feel.

1. Trivial coverage, such as... a brief summary of the nature of the content does not meet the notability criteria. I feel a sub-3:00 item falls under this, particularly when the alternate example given is that of a television documentar[y].
2. The guideline that [t]he article itself must provide proof that its subject meets one of these criteria via inlined links or a "Reference" or "External link" section.

Upon review, I've concluded that the "trivial coverage" bit cited above is intended for far more limited scopes than the CNN piece (or most of the similar ones at other news outlets), so I've noted "keep" at the AFD which was opened. As for improvements... I remain unconvinced that this is anything more than the Net fad-o-the-month, but WP's inclusion standards are pretty broad where such is concerned. I'd link to some of the text stories regarding the site (I noticed Chicago Tribune, New York Times, and MSNBC in the Google listing) and also note on the creator's admitted bias against dealing with cheating women on the site. — Lomn Talk 21:59, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

I understand that you are opposed to the use of this image, but you have to understand that at times Wikipedia works pretty slowly, just like any large community. It isn't really useful to spread your concern about several different places all at once; start a discussion somewhere (in this case I'd suggest the article's talk page) and pay attention to what other people do. At all times, remember the following:

• Be patient. As I said, we do tend to move slowly, and any discussion of policy moves doubly slowly.
• Be ready to step away if your point of view is not ultimately the one which is accepted. No matter how strongly you feel, it is possible that consensus will be against you. Terabyte and verifiability

I've removed your "shot-in-the-dark" estimate of "50 TB of Wikipedia data" from the article because it flunks WP:VERIFY. While you did add the {{fact}} template, that's really one to be used when you encounter someone else's spurious or doubtworthy fact. If you need to apply it to your own fact, particularly if you're inventing your own fact, you likely shouldn't make the edit in the first place. Incidentally, WP:STAT links to a page listing the sum total of Wikipedia language databases at around 7 GB in size. — Lomn Talk 20:57, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Two admins, one of whom was Marudubshinki told me that although I can't just flat out delete other users' comments, if I don't like some particular topics on my talk page (i.e. scoldings, diatribes, etc...), I move them to that subpage. Just tossing out some food for thought here, but do you see Alai's point about the page title? While you're adhering to the letter of Maru's instructions, disguising the visible link and passively pursuing aid to make it invisible are both outside the spirit of WP's openness. This is the same issue as inserting additional editorial comments into your edit summaries or HTML comments. A publishing company will almost assuredly not care about your WP history. Images of Samjiyon

Can't help you much; searching Google images for 삼지연 and 삼지연군 turns up a number of nice pictures, but none of them seem remotely likely to be GFDL-compatible. Of course, Samjiyon's municipal borders extend to North Korean side of Baekdusan, including Cheonji -- since tourism seems to be a fairly important aspect of Samjiyon, an image of the mountain or the lake might do a lot for the article. -- Visviva 06:51, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Images tagged for deletion

You did not give any rationale for the deletion of Image:BlindFaithBlindFaith.jpg or Image:Virgin Killer.jpg. These appear to be album covers used in articles on the albums, which is fair use. What is the problem? Just zis Guy you know? 09:26, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Aren't images of nude girls under 13 against the law in the US? I don't know what pertinent laws they have in their jurisdictions if they're from another country but if those albums are from the US, I don't know how they possibly slipped through the cracks. --Shultz IV 09:34, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

school massacre

Thought you might be interested, since you added {{fact}} for this one: the incident occured at a residential school's dormitory, explaining how it could occur at a school around midnight. One related caution, though -- when clarifying a statement, make sure that it's clarified correctly. For the Roseburg, Oregon shooting, the gunman never shot himself. The reference to the "boy shot" was the victim (I've changed that wording to be less vague). How does the article look now? For the record, the closing admin should look at the current article and the one that was there for the delete votes. Th reasons used for many of the early votes are, in my opinion, no longer valid. My guess is that in doing this, the result will be keep or at worst no consensus which results in keping the article. I guess you're right. It shouldn't be valid any longer because the article has been improved. I wish that IP user didn't ruin so many of the things I made this way. You can maybe ask ESkog to close it with a no consensus, or vote to keep it somehow. Usually, the closing admins are different than the opening ones. It's also worth noting, Shultz, that the closing admin will be more likely to consider this stuff if your reactions aren't so incendiary. Rather than tossing out accusations of sockpuppetry or anon-ip stalking, or trying to vote-lawyer, improve the article (or just let it stand if you think it's a baseless AFD) and then note "look, major overhaul at [whatever date]. Tagging articles

I noticed that Classmates.com has 4 different tags on it asking for a variety of attention. I have pared this down to 1; in general you should not overtag articles as it is not aesthetically pleasing and doesn't really accomplish a whole lot. Also, the {{expand}} tag is redundant to stubs - people looking for articles to expand will already look at both of them. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for your note. Ironically our paths crossed... I personally added Classmates.com many moons ago but it was somehow deleted. This weekend I personally wrote another Classmates.com page and as I was ready to post it discovered that somebody (you) made the kind effort to recently create the page. Not all of our policies are handed down from Jimbo; in fact, most of them aren't. They are instead decided upon by consensus among interested editors. Because of this it doesn't really make sense to use a {{fact}} template and ask "Who says?" - instead, if you feel the policy should be changed, you should initiate a discussion on the talk page. However, I think you'll find there is a strongly established consensus against any sort of censorship or bowdlerizing in Wikipedia - it may be better to spend your energies elsewhere, but that is of course your call. Please don't add interwiki links to articles until you are sure they exist. Even if you can't read the other language, you can tell by clicking through to that other site. If the top left tab (the one that here says "Article" or "User page" or whatever) is red text, that means the page doesn't exist yet, and there should be no interwiki link. Unlocked bikes

Yes, as you can see the bikes are unloked. As you know Mexico City is huge so in some areas the criminality is lower than others althow it is still daengerous in all the city. I haven't notice so much about the locked or unlocked bikes but i supposed is a cultural question. May be the owners of those bikes let them just a few minutes and the place is a "safe" area because is a plaza or small mall with banks and security. I do get a little busy sometimes, which is why I don't always act on your requests. There is a bit of a drought of active, qualified editors in the Korea-related topics these days, so I' m not sure who else to point you to. (I'm not especially qualified, but at least I'm active.) Naryathegreat has done yeoman work on some North Korea-related articles, but I haven't seen that name on my watchlist much lately, so that editor may be in Wikiretirement.

If you must put {{korean}} on Korea-related articles' talk pages, would you mind to provide an edit summary whenever you do that?

Not giving an edit summary makes everybody think you have something to say about the related article when they see your edit in their watchlist.

Putting the template on a hitherto empty talk page makes the link on the article page change from red to blue, which fools users into thinking there is or has been a discussion related to the article, when in fact there is none. Making readers follow the link just to find a lonely {{korean}} template may be a waste of their time in many cases.

I suggest you only put it on talk pages that are already linked to in blue.

I would put on the edit summary "{{korean}}" or say "adding korean template" but I can only copy & paste one string of text at a time and to type in identical edit summaries would cost a lot of time; it was more time-saving to just skip that step altogether. Sorry, I don't know of any. It may not help much, but if you use Firefox, you can drop off a line of text in its search field (and another one in its URI field) while you copy-and-paste something else, and pick it up again later. The shortcuts are Ctrl+K for the search field and Ctrl+L for the URI field. Wikipeditor 15:15, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

My username

I'm not Korean, but I do live in South Korea and have been there for about 4 years. The username has no particular relation to my ancestry (which is mixed Euro-American), but has more to do with my youthful immersion in German Idealist philosophy, in which the concept of the vis viva plays an important role.
