- When Cadillac was almost shut down in 1932, they had a policy to not sell to blacks, and decided that it was a bad choice for business, so they reconsidered the policy, and removed it. Therefore, Cadillac became the only car maker to remain profitable during the Great Depression, and thus survives to this day.
