Ray copyedit edit

Well, finding out one is tough! Tony1 (talk · contribs) is perhaps the best in the business. But it's difficult to rope in him. Nichalp (talk · contribs) also remains busy. How about SandyGeorgia (talk · contribs) or Sundar (talk · contribs)? Or do you have in mind somebody outside regular wikipedian? Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 06:29, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Was the oscar in 1991 or 1992? There is discrepency between the lead and "Commemoration and legacy". Please verify.--Dwaipayan (talk) 06:52, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
I belive the award was for 1991, but given in 1992. As far as copyediting goes, I'll depend on your discretion.--ppm 18:17, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
How about adding his nickname Manik somewhere? I have requested Sandy and Tony. Sandy peobably will have a look, as he has told. I do not think any busy non-Indian wikipedian will be interested to do a copyedit before it is in FAC. Requesting Sundar and Saravask as well.--Dwaipayan (talk) 19:55, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Manik added in "Critical and popular response". Lets see what happens with copyedit. If no one is too interested, we can just wait for FAC--ppm 20:00, 26 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Permit me to do a copyedit - hopefully I can address the condensation issue. Rama's arrow - this Fire burns always 02:26, 27 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hi - when do you plan to go for FAC? The article seems ready. Rama's arrow 21:17, 31 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. I shall try my best. perhaps you could help? - Auyon 05:27, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Congrats edit

Hi! Congrats. It was your excellent painstaking effort that led to the FA-ship of Satyajit Ray. Do you have any further plans for articles? How about trying film articles, for example, Pather Panchali itself? You have loads of source. And there is no time limit! Will be happy to help in any sorts possible. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 12:19, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

not right now. I might foray into Bangladesh related articles a bit before coming back to this topic. But sure, at some point.!--ppm 15:30, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yeah. Rajshahi University - I see. Is there any article relating to the immigrant Bangladeshi population? If not, you should start one. Recently, I went to Greece and was rather astonished to see the huge Bangladeshi immigrant population in Athens.--Dwaipayan (talk) 18:31, 13 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't know if there is such an article, we have so few Bangladeshi editors, and fewer active ones :(--ppm 02:47, 14 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ritwik Ghatak edit

Recently nominated Ritwik Ghatak for INCOTW. Lets see if the article gets some improvement. What are you doing nowadays?--Dwaipayan (talk) 12:29, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I actually will be away for a week, but will try to chip in later--ppm 16:38, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Nazrul and Dhaka FAC edit

Hi Shmitra - I request you to please check out Kazi Nazrul Islam (FAC) and Dhaka (FAC) . I need your input and criticism. Rama's arrow 15:29, 28 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've added a lot of new references. I think I've plugged most holes. Can you please give a fresh assessment? Rama's arrow 22:27, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Forgive me for pushing you on this, but could you please give a fresh assessment for Dhaka soon? I'd like to address any/all problems as per your input. As time goes by, the danger of Raul archiving the nom increases. Rama's arrow 09:54, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't know why but nobody else is taking an interest. Anywayz, I didn't mean to push you but I do hope that we can resolve your objection. Rama's arrow 16:50, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
I've addressed your points - will look for possible similar issues. Rama's arrow 22:06, 5 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hi Shmitra - I'm having difficulty understanding your fresh point. Can you please provide examples? Rama's arrow 01:45, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
It was just the statement "1952 language movement led to widesread violence after 21 february." apart from not being quite true, it was not really in the reference. anyway, i have changed that.--ppm 04:19, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Btw, I've reorganised many paragraphs as per Spangineer's review. Please have a look, Rama's arrow 02:27, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thank you Shmitra - it is in no short measure due to the help you gave. Thanks, Rama's arrow 21:54, 8 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
My dear sir u are underrating yourself and Ragib. Both of you were critical to the FAC successes. Nevertheless, I truly appreciate your precious gift. Thanks! Rama's arrow 22:00, 9 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bengali language edit

Hi! I am sorry I am extremely busy for about next 10 days, at least. I even could not have a look at the article. But I promise I shall, soon. Please go on improving the article...I will be regular in wikipedia in about 10 days. I'm very sorry for the delay. Have u seen Ritwik Ghatak lately? It was India collaboration of the week.--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:22, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

1956 Hungarian Revolution edit

Hi ppm, we've done a lot of work to clean up the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 article, remove POV, better sources etc. Would you ming taking a look at it again and see if maybe it merits a support vote (or, at least, a neutral) on FAC? Thanks. K. Lastochka 15:14, 15 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much for your review and constructive comments which have improved this article. Istvan 18:28, 15 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Rajshahi University Alumni edit

I shall go to Rajshahi this Eid. I shall try to collect as many as I can. Hoping to give you some good news soon. --Auyon 12:52, 21 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I regret to say that due to political unrest situation, I could not stay at Rajshahi after EID (Two days). Thats why I was unable to collect some names from the university. However, I asked some of my known persons to collect some, I shall inform you as soon as I get them. Thanks and best regards. Auyon10:35, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Charchari edit

Hello, can you check charchari to make sure it is accurate, and add the Bengali spelling? Many thanks for your expertise. Badagnani 03:03, 26 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I'd just assumed it was similar to "filmi." Are there any great Bengali dictionaries that give etymologies? Badagnani 03:14, 26 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

not that I know of, sorry--ppm 03:15, 26 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

FYI edit

Hi! West Bengal is in FAC. Express your views in the nomination page. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 09:01, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the message. I used the fact directly from Bangladesh, as you might have guessed. There may have been some sort of mistake. In fact, web sources are claiming a figure of 10 millions. I will check out, and if needed, leave out the figure. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 19:04, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Check out Bangladesh. The same figure, and same citation. What do u think?--Dwaipayan (talk) 19:06, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hmm! it's good that the error came out, at least a potential error. If you still have the source, just check it out and modify. I am changing the WB for the time being so that no specific figure is mentioned. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 19:08, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bengali language edit

What are the plans with the article? FAC? I was going through the article today. Felt that a daughter article on History of Bengali language is needed. Have not read the whole article though. Created a few wikilinks (including some in red). Can hardly understand the "Sounds" sections!!--Dwaipayan (talk) 20:10, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Re Constituent Assembly edit

The version online seems to be accurate but I don't know if it is an abridged version. Thanks for posting at my talk page. Take care and keep up the great work. --Antorjal 01:54, 31 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi, thanks for your message. I was on a wikibreak and returned today itself. I have replied on the Jana Gana Mana talk page. However I do not see much point in digging this. These days I am more active on some other language wikipedia so there might be some delay from my side in replying. Thanks. --Apandey 16:10, 31 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Query edit

Do you or Ragib have a reference for — The musical tradition of West Bengal /Bangladesh/Bengal is lyrics-based (Baniprodhan), with minimal instrumental accompaniment ? Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:43, 1 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

RE: Bangla edit

Hey, the selected article drive is over. Its a selected article in Portal: West Bengal now. I forgot to remove the selected article candidate template from the talk page. I am removing it at once. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 05:32, 18 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I just created Manoel da Assumpcam. Have a look. Shall you create Bhawal estate? I don't have time to go through source articles now(eg Banglapedia). Or I would have created it now. Do it if you can. If you have not already, I am adding the FAC info on related noticeboards (India noticeboard). Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 07:45, 18 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bangla FAC: concerns edit

The web sources in "Notes" are not properly mentioned. Retrieval date, publisher etc are missing. Try to add if you have time. Or I shall have a go sometime later. Better to use templates like cite web, cite news etc. Otherwise references are cool. "External links" should come after "Notes" and "References". You should be in touch with Sameerkhan, just in case some linguistic problem comes up!! Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 08:02, 18 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

second or third? edit

See the discussion. Found a Library of Congress country profile, where Bengali is second, corroborated by percentage (Country profile: India - page 7). I think the source is more dependable than either of the two references cited now. We can change the statement, I guess. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 07:29, 20 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

1991 census data gives second place, as well.([1]). We can state "according to 1991 census, Bengali is the second most spoken language in India... What do you think?--Dwaipayan (talk) 07:32, 20 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dialects: Hindu-Muslim forms?? edit

"...lexical alternation between standard West Bengali forms (commonly called Hindu forms) and their corresponding standard Bangladeshi forms (commonly called Muslim forms)". Is it so? I mean those are called Hindu and Muslim forms? This requires citation.--Dwaipayan (talk) 19:05, 20 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Peter's comments edit

I guess Peter's comments in the FAC have mostly been addressed. You should give a reply.--Dwaipayan (talk) 18:02, 22 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ya I noticed that, too (straight from...). Also, that kwintessential article is from indianscripts.com! --Dwaipayan (talk) 05:36, 23 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Bengali language edit

Can we have a dialect map as in the article Swedish language. I think if we can add it we will get an add on in the FA drive.Amartyabag 12:22, 23 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

What do you think about this suggestion by Amartya? Is it possible? First, Do we have enough data to build one? Second, how to build one? I am totally ignorant about maps! If you have the data and expertise, it is a good suggestion. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 17:05, 23 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
We lack both the information (and source) and also a such a high res map of Bengal. The world map (that I used) only goes so far--ppm 19:17, 23 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't know about information part, but surely the India's locator map can be cropped and used for the purpose. It is a very high resolution map. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 19:32, 23 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Congrats edit

Congrats man. Bengali language got FA status. In 7 days. Congrats.--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:20, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately, I could not support it in the FAC :( I thought it would take some more time and held back supporting. But Raul did not give the time!--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:25, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Congrats!! By the way, have you noticed Rajshahi university in bangla?. It includes ঐতিহাসিক ডেভিড কফ, নৃবিজ্ঞানী পিটার বাউচি, কারেন্স ম্যালেনি , জোহানা কর্ক প্যাট্রিক, বিশিষ্ট ঐতিহাসিক প্রফেসর আব্দুল করিম, রমিলা থামার ( Historian David Koff, Piter Bouchi, Currense Malony, Johana Cork Pattrik, Prof. Abdul Karim, Romila Thamar), perdon me for any spelling mistakes in the name. Best regards. User: Auyon 12:02, 27 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I love you pradipta (most of the days) ...

Sweetheart, how r u doing these days !!

Re:Just curious edit

Hi! Not really. I mean I am not working on any particular topic. Was just giving a thought...Umm...how about Bengal tiger? There are other FAs on animals. And there are many web sources on Bengal tiger. However, I do not have any book. Another wish is Lage Raho Munna Bhai which is getting some good improvements lately. What are you doing these days? Any plan? Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 19:29, 2 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'll see if I can find a book on the topic. I am interested in getting Rajshahi University to be an FA at some point, but right now it has stagnated.--ppm 19:58, 2 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
