Early history of Singapore

Hi Shiok, great to get your message and thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. Those edits were made long long long ago. I probably just did some reorg of the history pages and didn't write them myself. Feel free to make changes as you deem fit. Early history is particularly challenging because there are so few sources and yet there are different versions of events. Be BOLD in making changes as long as you stay objective. Hi Vsion, great to hear from you too and will keep advice in mind. After your message, I wanted to track down some sources at library over the weekend but could not make it. But just to share an interesting bit from my readings recently - although Raffles founded a trading port on this island, it was against the advice of his colleagues, who preferred some others nearby, possibly the more central Karimun island. I'm imagining how Singapore's history could have been totally different from that point, as it would still be Malaya's territory! Shiok (talk) 02:37, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

Singapore Lead Sentence

Hi Shiok, as per Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(geographic_names)#General_guidelines it does recommend that "Alternatively, all alternative names can be listed and explained in a "Names" or "Etymology" section immediately following the lead, or a special paragraph of the lead; it is recommended to have such a section if there are at least three alternate names, or there is something notable about the names themselves." Japan's nickname (actually its literal translation) is included on the second sentence. If we add all the nicknames to the lead sentence, then why not also include S'pore and Disneyland with the Death Penalty? Just saying, nicknames should be in the name section or at least the second paragraph.. Respectfully, 23haveblue (talk) 18:45, 14 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi 23haveblue thanks for the link. Not sure if you realise it, but the guides are actually favorable to the status quo and may be why the earlier editors have place the names there. For instance, the guidelines does not limit the number of names on the first line. The example provided even shows four names, whereas the Singapore article has only three. In this case, we do not need to consider 'alternately..'. It is also short because explanations for the names is left in the body, unlike Japan's. As for Disney with death penalty article, from history page it was user:Terrancommander who removed it because the 20-year old stats used is no longer relevent. Do you have an opinion of it by the way? It has certainly given the city a lot of publicity. The nickname refs can be found in the body but I am searching for others over lunch. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Territorial disputes in the South China Sea cleanup header from 2016

Hello! I just saw that the article has a cleanup header made by you from 2016 saying that the sections should be re-organized. However, as far as I can see, there was no discussion on this. Hi, its been a while since I looked at it. To start with,I probably had in mind the first two sections - History should come first and the summary of disputes table could be part of it. The other sections follow no chronological order so perhaps rename them under 'Specific disputes'? There are plenty of news updates of interest. Hope you can work on it. Thanks.
