Orphaned non-free media (Image:PPF7.jpg) edit

  Thanks for uploading Image:PPF7.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:27, 26 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

May 2011 edit

  Hello Shingleton. If you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Brian Jones Presents the Pipes of Pan at Joujouka, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors; and
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Gyrofrog (talk) 02:08, 7 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Many of your edits – actually, all of them since July 2008 – added external links to the website "overgrownpath.com". This alone gives the impression that you were editing on behalf of that website. However, in the case of this edit to Brian Jones Presents the Pipes of Pan at Joujouka, you linked to an interview posted that same day and conducted by someone whose name is similar to your own Wikipedia username. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 16:46, 1 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
That link to my website is on my user page (see WP:UPYES), not in an article, and there's a big difference. Please see WP:EL, and WP:EL#ADV in particular:

"It is true that a link from Wikipedia to an external site may drive Web traffic to that site. But in line with Wikipedia policies, you should avoid linking to a site that you own, maintain, or represent—even if WP guidelines seem to imply that it may otherwise be linked. When in doubt, you may go to the talk page and let another editor decide. This suggestion is in line with WP's conflict-of-interest guidelines."

Thanks, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 16:27, 2 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
If another account with no evident relationship to the website had posted the link (or perhaps two), I might not have thought anything else about it. In contrast, you've linked to your own website no less than 26 times, which raises a flag. I'll thank you to stop referring to my efforts as "myopic". I'd suggest convincing a different editor that there's nothing wrong with what you've been doing. Thanks, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 20:55, 2 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Fine, you think I'm myopic, I think you've been WP:SPAMming. Again: I'd suggest convincing a different editor that there's nothing wrong with what you've been doing. Try Wikipedia:External links/Noticeboard. Thanks, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 22:23, 2 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
