Ronald20 edit

User:Ronald20 has never responded to any of the messages that have been left on his talk page, or on the talk pages of any of the IPs that he has edited from. I was surprised enough when he added a little extra information to his user page after I created it for him.

FYI: He also hasn't done any editing on the Wikipedia since 25 August 2005. He is a high school student in Los Angeles and occasionally goes to El Salvador. I am wondering if he had gone there for a week or more before school starts (which is this week for many of the LA schools). BlankVerse 04:53, 7 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

I noticed he hadn't replied to any of the comments. I think he's a good-faith newbie who doesn't understand what Wikipedia's for or how a talk page works, so hopefully he will see his userpage at some point before he starts editing again. Ashibaka (tock) 02:26, 8 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Visual Novel translations edit

You're shii from http://www.shii.org, aren't you?

I was searching for something like http://www.shii.org/translate/ just a while ago :). I think we should get that or something equal into wikipedia... would be cool to cooperatively keep track of those.

Rvalles 02:46, 14 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

I'm not exactly sure how we would title that article (Fan translation of visual novels? List of visual novel translations? The neologism, Visual novel gamesubbing?) or whether it would be encyclopedic, but it would be a nice addition to our current set of articles on anime games. Dōjinshi edit

I'm of the opinion that Wikipedia should be a scholarly resource and, even insofar as it covers popular topics, should use a more scholarly style than your average fan website. Since articles on Japanese history, culture, etc. use macrons, I think it's important that anime-related articles do the same so that things are consistent throughout the encyclopedia, especially since there are redirects in place and I can't imagine anyone not making the connection between "dōjinshi" and "doujinshi".

I don't think the usage of "doujinshi" is comparable to that of "Tokyo", which has been the standard spelling in English for many decades and is used by governments, newspapers, etc., whereas "doujinshi" has been in use for a few years by a comparatively small number of enthusiasts on Internet messageboards and the like. Sure it gets lots of Google hits, but again it's largely an Internet-based fandom, and I think the prevalence of that spelling is more a result of non-speakers of Japanese picking up the word as they see others spelling it rather than large numbers of people making a conscious choice for "ou" over "ō" (which hardly anyone could type even if they wanted to).

To put it another way, IMO Wikipedia should be writing about "dōjinshi" the Japanese publishing phenomenon rather than "doujinshi" the the Western byword for online anime porn scans.

Also, I find it somewhat creepy how you keep popping up on the same websites I frequent.... DopefishJustin (・∀・) 20:56, 15 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

I didn't mean to emphasize the porn aspect of it so much as point out that the preferences of Western fans aren't necessarily very important when discussing a primarily Japanese subject, especially since they constitute a small minority of English speakers. Ashida Kim edit

What a load of cheats and liars you are. There is no more User Page for Ashida Kim, proving that, as I said before, YOU closed it. Every time one of my friends comes here to cast a vote for deletion they are blocked and their vote deleted. You say that if a page comes under an edit war you will close it, but whenever anyone tries to edit it you revert and block their IP. You even accuse me of doing it and prevent me from making any more entries on the AfD page. See boys, this is a rigged game. Just like I said it was. You refuse to play by your own rules. So stop pretending you are on some "noble mission" to save the world from mean old Ashida. There is an old Gaelic saying, "Them that don't like us, may God turn their hearts, and if he can't turn their hearts may he turn their ankles so we will know them by their limping." That is why you boys are lame ass trolls, LOL --Ashida Kim

Thank you for your comments. Next time, please put them on the Talk page rather than the User page! Ashibaka (tock) 17:33, 19 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

4chan edit

On Longcat's article for deletion you said that 4chan was only known to ~1000 people. Now, I'd like to correct you on that, there were almost 1000 people who showed up for the 4chan pannel, ONLY at Otakon, there are about 50,000 unique users who visit 4chan every day.

I'm not going to bother to add it, but what about TRAP TUESDAY / ITS A TRAP/TARP etc. ? - FrancisTyers 01:55, 25 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Category vote request edit

Hi, thanks for supporting me on the eccentric category. I would really appreciate your comment or vote at Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion#Category:Jewish_American_actors. There is a real problem with this category and similar ones as mixing ethnicity-nationality-profession in categories is in my opinion extremely bad for the category structure. The main reason for this is many people are being added to these xxx American categories for having one grandparent of that ethnicity, therefore they can be in four xxx American categories. If we allow the ethnicity-nationality-profession mix in categories, for example, for someone who has grandparents of four different ethnicities and two professions i.e. actor and director, they could end up in four xxx American actor categories and four xxx American director categories which in my opinion would make Wikipedia look ridiculous. In my opinion this category should be merged with Category:American actors. Thanks Arniep 21:21, 8 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Even though I was looking at the diff, it took me about a minute to find your last comment in the body of the AfD. Would you consider moving it to the bottom? - brenneman(t)(c) 02:54, 11 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
I'd like to, but then it'd look like a general rant and not a response to someone's vote. It is still mysterious to me that so many people are voting that way. Ashibaka (tock) 03:20, 11 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Rationale for vandals edit

Please don't add "rationale" to the vandal pages...they don't have any. Being drunk or whatever (as stated by "willy's" email) does not excuse vandalism, especially not repeated vandalism. Adding "rationale" fully gives them license to continue. Not to mention additional "trophy points." The vandal pages are meant to identify and categorize their actions, not to glorify them...don't you agree? Adam Rock 16:52, 5 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I guess those additions were less than useful. In the future I will redirect my creative energies towards more valuable causes. Ashibaka tock 17:50, 5 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
I didn't mean to come off as hostile there, it's just that the vandal pages seem to occasionally get "improved" by the vandals themselves. Removing most of the "glitter" and keeping it boring and succinct is one of the few things keeping it shy of being a trophy for the success of the vandalisms. If you could, add the email you linked to for Willy On Wheels' apology to the talk page. We will probably never know if that is "WoW" or not, though. :) Adam Rock 18:37, 5 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Replaced Uzbek woman with Prokudin-Gorskii-19.jpg image of Alim Khan edit

Hello. I agree that the Gorskii images are pretty good, but the yurt woman was not very well presented and regardless the upper caption of Uzbeks requires a composite photo of roughly 4 well known Uzbeks as can be seen with the articles on the Turks and Germans. Thus, I removed the yurt woman picture by Gorskii, which is a nice picture mind you, and replaced it with one with Alim Khan who is more relevant and whose picture is much more clear and representative of the Uzbeks. Hopefully this is cool. Thanks and adios. Tombseye 00:31, 31 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
