Welcome December 2009 edit

Welcome!

There are standards developed by the Wiki community concerning articles of Japanese culture.

Wiki distinguishes the names of people born before and after 1868: before 1868, Japanese order (Family name, First name) is used; after 1868, Western order ( First name, Family name) is used. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Japan-related articles)#Names. 窪田孝行 was born after 1868: in Wiki, he is referred to as Takayuki Kubota.

Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(biographies)#Honorific_prefixes discusses the use of titles; Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Martial_arts#Contradiction has a discussion of the Wiki Martial Arts project usage recommendations. Briefly, to say 'Takayuki Kubota is Soke' or 'Takayuki Kubota is Grand Master' is acceptable (and should have a reference.) Nobody here means disrespect to 宗家窪田孝行 when he is referred to as 'Takayuki Kubota' or 'Kubota' in the article.

Stop by at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Martial_arts to see other activities in martial arts in Wikipedia. jmcw (talk) 21:26, 7 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
