Unsouced restoration to Jason Cundy

Please don't manually revert and restore unsourced statements on BLPs as you did with this edit. Thanks FozzieHey (talk) 15:39, 28 April 2022 (UTC)

sorry I didn't know that was unsourced, I'll try better later :) Sheep (talk) 17:47, 28 April 2022 (UTC)
No problem, it was reverted fairly quickly. For future reference, if an unsourced statement is removed and you can't find a valid source to back it up or a reason to include it at all, then don't re-add it. FozzieHey (talk) 18:16, 28 April 2022 (UTC)

Note

Hi, thanks for adding some signatures to User:MalnadachBot/Signature submissions, I will process them. Regarding this edit you made, if font tags with color attribute is outside a link, it should be moved inside the link when it is converted to span tag. Otherwise the color will not render. You had also inadvertently added extra < > brackets. I have fixed it in this edit. You can compare the before and after versions to see the effect on link colors. ಮಲ್ನಾಡಾಚ್ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣೊ (talk) 19:34, 7 May 2022 (UTC)

I noticed you reverted my edit on List of Wiktionaries. The link to "English" in the first column goes to English language however the link in the second column (Language (local)) does not.— Rod talk 18:24, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

I've created Template:Wiktionary stats/disambig to fix this issue. Use parameter 3 to set the second link's target. Sheep (talk) 18:54, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

OMG

I CANNOT belive THEYRE undoing my edit for no reason when I was FIXING lint errors. I already made two reverts, but for no reason they keep undoing it to its original. I don't know the reason why. Sheep (talk) 07:53, 29 May 2022 (UTC)

@Sheep8144402 I would suggest ignoring users like them. 99.9% of users have changed they signature when requested, most of them are helpful and collaborative. Per Wikipedia:Editing restrictions (do ctrl + F Lugnuts), they are under an editing restriction prohibiting edits that do not make a change in page rendering. These reverts seems to be a violation of this, so you can report to the enacting admin Spartaz or WP:ANI if you want to take this further. ಮಲ್ನಾಡಾಚ್ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣೊ (talk) 17:16, 29 May 2022 (UTC)

Mass editing

You seem to be fixing a lot of lint errors, which is great! You might want to try WP:AWB or similar, and maybe have a look at WP:BOTREQ. ― Qwerfjkltalk 20:47, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

Lint fixing

Thank you for your work fixing lint errors. I found Portal talk:Tennis in Missing end tag in Portal namespace, and I looked into the page history so I could understand what went wrong in your edit just before mine. We all make mistakes, and hopefully you didn't make many of this type, which is actually two types, because you removed some of the display text and left a tag without a closing tag. When I edit, I always run lintHint to make sure I haven't introduced any new lint errors. Also, I noticed in your edit of 03:41, 5 July 2022 (UTC) of Portal talk:Linguistics/Archive 1 you changed <tt>n</tt> to <samp>n</samp>, but this is not correct. See mw:Help:Lint errors/obsolete-tag, where it explains the various replacedments for <tt>...</tt>. <samp>...</samp> is only for computer output, and this isn't computer output. The replacement for <tt>...</tt> in the general case is {{mono}}. Also, the purpose of an edit summary is to inform other users about that specific edit. For this reason, my edit summaries usually detail every change I made. Take a look at my contributions for how expressive my edit summaries are. It may amuse you to keep a tally of your lint fixes, but I don't think the edit summary is the place for that tally. Instead of the tally, put in the details, so other editors will learn from your correction what not to do. Cheers! ―Anomalocaris (talk) 06:06, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

Idk why I like to keep a tally of my fixes but it's so I can keep track of how many Linter errors I've fixed, sorry if you don't appreciate it but if it becomes a problem eventually I may have to stop :(

Maybe I can show others the types of linter errors I fixed, and put the total at the end of the summary as (x); although if I use AWB then since I'm not gonna include (x), I may have to count them myself and put it in the record Sheep (talk) 10:21, 6 July 2022 (UTC)

Fixing lint errors

Thank you for fixing lint errors, but your fix of Daibutsuyō made matters worse, because in replacing obsolete <center>...</center> tags, you created high-priority div-span-flip lint errors, which I fixed. Cheers! —Anomalocaris (talk) 21:06, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

{{center}} in <span> tags unfortunately doesn't work as it makes the text invisible. A better replacement is to use <style="text-align:center;">. (see here for more info) Sheep (talk) 21:28, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

Attempting to fix Linter errors in Template space

I think you will find that except for newly created errors, there are no Linter errors shown on the Template space lists that affect other pages. Our efforts are best spent on actual errors that are straightforward to fix. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:40, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

Modifying my signature without my permission.

I don't care what you feel my signature does, unless I've violated an actual Wikipedia policy or guideline I would ask that you never ever modify anything I've written ever again as you did Here and you did Here. Consider this a friendly attempt for me to voice my extreme unhappiness at what you did. I was harassed several months ago about my signature and I changed it. Now someone wants me to change it again. If it happens again, you will need to explain yourself at one of the admin notice boards. JOJ Hutton 18:54, 30 October 2022 (UTC)

If these edits really are causing notifications (which I question), you might want to limit your edits to other namespaces, like Wikipedia or Wikipedia Talk, where there are plenty of errors available. User:MalnadachBot/Signature submissions also lists AWB-ready patterns that need fixing. Thanks for doing these Linter error fixes. – Jonesey95 (talk) 12:40, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
Its true, making any edits to a base User talk page sends a new message notification. Of course, it is not that annoying for IPs compared to registered user talk pages. That's why User talk Lint fixing should be done by bots, since bot + minor edit will not send a notification. You had submitted a BRFA, I don't know why you withdrew. BRFAs are slow moving by nature, but someone will process it eventually. Or as Jonesey as said above, you can concentrate on WP and WT pages (2 million errors there) and leave User talk for MalnadachBot. I haven't done any in weeks since the bot is busy with the bottomless pit which is Task 13. I will clear a few this weekend. ಮಲ್ನಾಡಾಚ್ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣೊ (talk) 15:24, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
I kinda withdrew bc I thought it was unlikely gonna ever get a comment (no response in ~10-14d) so I had to withdraw it, but at any time I may send another one any time soon when I feel like it.

It was withdrawn as slate bc of this reason, although some time later I may send another BRFA and hopefully get things done :(

Also note that I've now filed a BRFA to try to clear all font tags using regex expressions involving font tags and it can take a while to process as a replacement for MalnadachBot 12. 1201-1250 is a good start, then I may find other regex expressions to include so I may try to clear them all at once per page.

Sheep (talk) 15:44, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
Also a note that I will postpone the TWA BRFA to task 2 when task 1 is approved. I'll do a BRFA on TWA-related Linter errors for task 2 some time after task 1 is approved. Sheep (talk) 15:30, 12 November 2022 (UTC)

RE: Your signature and linter errors

I use a substituted template for my signature. So I don't need to worry about the length of my signature. The reason my signature uses 'font' instead of 'span' is because when I hover over a signature that uses 'span' instead of 'font', the underline matches the default link colour instead of the signature colour. Which rather irritates me. I will change it if I have to, but I would prefer it if there were alternative options available that would resolve the inconsistency between the underline colour and the signature colour. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 04:51, 20 November 2022 (UTC)

Some problems about your sig: 1. it is over the 255 character limit per WP:SIGLENGTH, 2. it uses deprecated font tags per WP:SIGFONT, and 3. templates are strongly discouraged per WP:SIG#NT especially when using a template to sign. Also you can use text-decoration: inherit; to make it so that the link color matches your sig color, but it unfortunately doesn't work when used with sup or sub tags :(
Or rather leave your signature as is until someone comes around your talk page concerning it. Sheep (talk) 05:03, 20 November 2022 (UTC)

Question

Why are you editing other editor's signatures, and on archive pages at that? (ping Galloglass) - wolf 05:59, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

These signatures cause Linter errors, specifically obsolete HTML tags, and font tags are one of them. Whenever I use AWB, I use regex expressions to try to clear all errors at once (I am planning on using a bot for removing font tags). If you want to know how to fix these tags, you can read this page and you'll get the replacements. Sheep (talk) 12:16, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

"Account standing" list at User:Sheep8144402/how i get account standing

Hi Sheep8144402,

I've stumbled upon your attempt to create a "standing" scale for editors at User:Sheep8144402/how i get account standing.

This is problematic for two reasons.

  • The arbitrary way of attempting to assign an objective "standing" value to editors is extremely far-fetched to the point of harmful inaccuracy
  • The list of specific editors and their standing is incompatible with the user pages guideline (section WP:POLEMIC: "Material that can be viewed as attacking other editors, including the recording of perceived flaws"; "negative information related to others"; "Negative evidence, laundry lists of wrongs, collations of diffs and criticisms related to problems").

Please think about this for a while, let's say up to 48 hours. If you agree, please replace the page content by {{Db-u1}}. If you disagree, I'll nominate the page for deletion.

Best regards,
~ ToBeFree (talk) 21:05, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

(edit conflict) Oh, I didn't know this was problematic. Maybe we can think of an alternative to this. Maybe a "wiki reputation" or a simplified system on whether you have the community's "trust" or something. Sheep (talk) 21:11, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
No worries about that; I know you did this in good faith. Regarding the proposed alternative, I think the Wikipedia community neither needs nor wants that. The closest established process to such an idea is de:Wikipedia:Persönliche Bekanntschaften.* There's no enwiki equivalent; the English Wikipedia community is spread too far across the globe for this to work.
*(In a nutshell, this is a database which contains entries like "User X has met User Y in real life at 2022-12-22". It's not a rating system, it's just a huge list of confirmations that someone is a real person. Example entry: [3]) ~ ToBeFree (talk) 21:18, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
I agree with @ToBeFree. Why are you doing this? Do you plan to do this for all editors who have been active recently? I think the number is around 120,000 active editors in the past month. On 1 November, above, you said "THATS GONNA DROP MY ACCOUNT STANDING" as if this was an accepted thing... David10244 (talk) 13:54, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
I did not do this for all editors, I probably made this so you could know how well you're doing on WP, for example whether you've been blocked recently for disruptive behavior. Although I'm starting to feel like I'm being a nerd or something, I just want to show you as if this were to be the future of WP or something.
I probably would have to agree that I don't think WMF would implement something like this in the future, although I could try alternatives (they would likely have to go to RfC, but as TBF said enwp may not need something like these) or leave the account status only to me then.
Tbh I will still keep the page for history, just left as is with no further edits to it unless otherwise noted. Sheep (talkhe/him) 14:00, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
@Sheep8144402 Well, if @ToBeFree nominates the page for deletion, you won't be able to keep it there "for history". Wikipedia is not a place to store stuff for your own purposes. If you want to keep the info, you should copy it to your own computer. David10244 (talk) 10:25, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
I personally am fine with the blanking and the transparency of the history of the page. The only way to actually make sure that a page's content will always remain available to you is indeed an offline copy on your computer, though. From my point of view, there's nothing left to do or to be discussed here; Sheep8144402 has long addressed the concerns. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 10:38, 22 December 2022 (UTC)

BOTLIKE edits to old pages

Please develop a bot to do BOTLIKE edits to fix font tags on ancient pages. Please stop doing it manually. You slow rate of these edits means a slow rate of watchlist pollution, but still, it is watchlist pollution. The answer is to use a bot. SmokeyJoe (talk) 22:35, 21 December 2022 (UTC)

I AM planning on doing so, and also I may use AWB to fix lint (which is not manual editing). However I only plan to fix font tags in one task, so I may have to use AWB to fix the rest of the lint. You can read this BRFA for evidence that I am planning on using a bot. Sheep (talkhe/him) 22:39, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
Do so. Stop the manual fiddling in the meantime. SmokeyJoe (talk) 22:45, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
JEEZ, I ALREADY FILED SUCH A BRFA LAST MONTH. I did use AWB to fix signatures with just font tags but now I've decided to use AWB to only fix signatures that create linter errors other than font tags unless font tags are present in a signature and it has lint other than that.
You can now leave me alone dude. Sheep (talkhe/him) 22:48, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
Now, you are continuing, and at a much higher rate than you used to. You are doing BOTLIKE editing, which is not ok. You are doing it to old pages for negligible need, but by filling recentchanges and watchlists with manual edits, you are making work with the need to check what you are doing. This is why there is bot policy. SmokeyJoe (talk) 22:53, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
I SAID YOU CAN LEAVE ME ALONE NOW.
Just for evidence on this page: However, as stated in the bot task, only font tags linter errors will be fixed. Sheep (talkhe/him) 22:53, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
When advised that you are violating policy, shouting “leaving me alone” doesn’t bode well.
However, I see you are now confining your attention to mainspace spaces, which is perfectly fine. Font tag issues on live mainspace pages are an issue, right now. Thanks for doing that. But for “fixing” very old user_talk pages, or archived project pages, please ensure such edits only only done by an approved bot. SmokeyJoe (talk) 23:25, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
Sheep, as I have said in a section above, it is not a good idea to fix Lint errors in base usertalk pages from your main account, unless it is to fix something that is making the page unreadable. Doing so sends a "You have new talkpage message" alert to users, even if you mark it is as minor. That is going to result in annoyed users piling on here. Speaking from experience, a lot of people will be complaining when your bot gets approved anyway. You would do well to keep opposition low and avoid doing contentious things until the BRFA is approved. ಮಲ್ನಾಡಾಚ್ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣೊ (talk) 15:27, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
So until my bot task is approved it is OK if I fix lint semi-automatically outside of base User talk pages then... Sheep (talkhe/him) 20:29, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
Not old project pages, like XfD subpages. How old is old? I would say one year since the last human edit.
Bot edits are safely ignored, as bit scrutiny is strong, and accordingly they are easily filtered.
Any non-bot edit to archived project pages are suspect edits that need investigation. Similarly for old talk namespace archives. There’s a lot of history and decision precedents on some pages, and we like to think that their records are clean of unwatched amendments.
I recommend that you stick with mainspace pages, in the pre-bot period. Mainspace page errors should be fixed immediately, and if there is any error in your maintenance, you’ll hear about it quick.
Are most of your fixes fixes to particular editors’ signatures? Would it be better to target the signatures, by user? I guess that usually the problem is identical each time, for each problem user signature, and that it would be easy to do all instances on a single page with a single edit. SmokeyJoe (talk) 03:27, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
The bot will use regexes to fix signatures, but the problem is with signatures with consecutive font tags, for example <font color="#000000">text<font color="#000000">text</font></font>. I don't think it's even possible to build regexes that fix such instances like these. Attemping to try to catch signatures with equal signs between font tags don't work. For example, when I use the regex \< *font +color *\= *(\"|\'|) *#*([0-9A-Fa-f][0-9A-Fa-f][0-9A-Fa-f][0-9A-Fa-f][0-9A-Fa-f][0-9A-Fa-f]|[0-9A-Fa-f][0-9A-Fa-f][0-9A-Fa-f]) *(\"|\'|) *\>(.+)\<\/ *font *(color|) *\> to fix <font color="#000000">text<font color="#000000">text</font></font>, it gets replaced with <span style="color:#000000;">text<font color="#000000">text</font></span>. There's one font tag left over, which I don't want. Also FYI I have changed approval to fix signatures with other linter errors. Nevermind, gonna leave that to MalnadachBot 12, I don't think it's necessary for two bots to share the same task. Sheep (talkhe/him) 03:47, 23 December 2022 (UTC)
It's unlikely that the bot will be approved as a general Lint error fixing bot without a follow up trial. So it is best to focus on mainspace linting (123k missing end tags at the moment) and do other namespace edits in the approved bot trial or after approval. Though I haven't fixed Lint errors using MalnadachBot in nearly 5 months, I retain the approval for it. When the task of blanking old IP talkpages is done, I am going to resume it and can target the ones your bot skipped.
Did you copy the border around your userpage from mine? When I clicked on your userpage, I though for a moment I am in my own :P ಮಲ್ನಾಡಾಚ್ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣೊ (talk) 16:56, 23 December 2022 (UTC)

What a way of being wikistressed because of one editor noticing my "botlike" edits. Jesus, this is like the unauthorized bot incident on Malnadach (except that is similar to an "only warning"). Besides, this section has taken up over 10% of the space available for my talk. My talk's over half full because of this and could expect the first section to be archived by summer 2023, not ~ late autumn 2023 anymore (these are only estimates). Things seem to have cooled down now and most of my AWB edits fixing font tags are testing my regexes out and getting small bits of lint outta my way. But just because fixing lint is a good thing doesn't mean you should do 2000+ edits or so a day fixing lint on your main account. I only do max ~500 edits or so a day with AWB fixing lint and you think it's botlike editing. Sure, the last ~15 edits which you call a "much higher rate than you used to" was to finish the task off on user talk pages. I might be wrong for editing lots of user talk pages for fixing lint, but I used to do so in the first few months of fixing lint. Now I've learned it after two reminders. Imagine one admin saying "you will be blocked if you continue to do botlike editing" and I don't even touch user talk pages with it. That will make me more wikistressed. The first time I had high wikistress, I stated I had "stress" issues, but then I realized I should've said "wikistress" issues with the {{User frustrated}} template. Not "leaving me alone" when I shouted it, and then acting nice afterwards? Then don't act mean like that before. Even though I sometimes message what I normally chat in multiplayer gaming, I've grown up as an adolescent that started high school. After all this, it is time to do some maintenance work and this will go into my archives months later. Sheep (talkhe/him) 21:23, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
You’ve been pointed to WP:BOTLIKE. If you know what you are doing, getting a bot approved is straightforward. If it doesn’t seem straightforward, you’ve got some learning to do, and doing BOTLIKE editing from a non authorised bot account is liable to cause more problems than good, and that’s without even factoring in watchlist annoyance. Minor bit edits are filterable from watchlists for good reason. Every non bot edit to an old page needs checking. If you’re into doing maintenance fixes, you shouldn’t need to have this explained to you. SmokeyJoe (talk) 02:10, 16 January 2023 (UTC)

It's not constructive. You can take it to the talk page if you disagree. Sheep (talkhe/him) 13:39, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

Oh ok

Welp. Ok then, you got me on the CS Mioveni thingy. How is your day going? 79.47.181.40 (talk) 10:03, 23 January 2023 (UTC)

Good overall. You know that if you are going to post a message similar to the topic above, you can reply there. Sheep (talkhe/him) 12:02, 23 January 2023 (UTC)

Be bold?

What type of messages are you leaving on my user talk page? Your telling me to be “bold”? 2A02:A44C:6682:1:6068:A2F8:2224:118 (talk) 19:50, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

It's per this guideline. Wikipedia encourages you to be bold, but don't go around and remove stuff for no reason. Sheep (talkhe/him) 21:19, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

Well I had a reason for removing that infobox. The top of that infobox is baby pink, an immature color. But I’m not able to figure out how to change the color. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:A44C:6682:1:6068:A2F8:2224:118 (talk) 21:51, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

The background you call "baby pink" comes from {{Infobox outbreak}}, but apparently you cannot edit the template because it is protected. If you want, you can file an edit request there. Sorry about telling you to be bold, but unfortunately you cannot actually be bold and fix it. Sheep (talkhe/him) 22:42, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

@Sheep8144402 (talk · contribs) I noted my suggestion at {{Infobox outbreak}} at the talk page. This is what I wrote there:

“I suggest we change the color at the top of the infobox. Baby pink is an immature color, and since it’s about medical stuff, I think blue or white is more appropriate”.

Hopefully I’ll be able to get my point through, because baby pink just looks weird on a Wikipedia article 2A02:A44C:6682:1:6068:A2F8:2224:118 (talk) 00:25, 27 January 2023 (UTC)

Cs mioveni again

Ok so uh this time when I actually add a CONSTRUCTIVE EDIT you remove it. Bruh how is the fact that CS mioveni is the lowest rated Romanian club in fifa 23 not constructive? Can I add it back? 80.117.73.73 (talk) 20:58, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

Oh, so now you want to contribute constructively to this site... You are going to have to read Help:Introduction and the five pillars of WP if you don't want me to revert your edit as unconstructive. Please be aware that incorrect information, unsourced or improperly sourced material, or otherwise vandalism can result in your edit being reverted.
You know that rather than creating a new section, if you are going to post a message similar to the topic above, you can reply there. In this case "Cs mioveni". Sheep (talkhe/him) 21:38, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

Query to help your bot

I have setup quarry:query/69413 which lists pages that have obsolete font tags, no center tag and not any other type of Lint error. You can fork this query to make any modifications, download the list in wikitable form and feed it to your bot using "Text file (UTF-8)" option in AWB. Although it doesn't have the option to filter specific signatures, it has the advantage of giving very large lists to the bot uninhibited by AWB's insource search limits. I have been going through this namespace by namespace, with the bot editing ~60% of pages. ಮಲ್ನಾಡಾಚ್ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣೊ (talk) 05:12, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

Pinging Legoktm, who might also be interested in this list. – Jonesey95 (talk) 06:03, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
I'm willing to use it whenever the signature submission list is entirely cleared. I've been busy in IRL work over past few days and running my bot, but hopefully should get more time in the weekends. Sheep (talkhe/him) 12:12, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

FYI sig error

Your bot is having issues with Captain Assassin!'s signatures here and here with some end tag nesting issues. On the first link, the two </span> end tags are outside of the userpage link and need to go inside after "Assassin'S Creed". Additionally and </small> end tags at the very end are reversed. On the second link, it's a slightly differently written signature, but same idea, three </span> tags are outside of the profile link, and the and </small> end tags are again reversed.

Just mentioning these for potential bot script improvements. I've addressed these issues on both pages mentioned.
Thanks you for your fixing efforts! Cheers, Zinnober9 (talk) 23:21, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

Problem regexes

There are bugs with regexes you use for combining font size with sup, sub and small tags. These tags have their own inbuilt font sizes set. Defining an inline font-size by combining it from font tag changes the size in which they are rendered, as you can see in Special:PermanentLink/1139943723. You should modify regexes 6-12 here to remove sup, sub and small tags from them. ಮಲ್ನಾಡಾಚ್ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣೊ (talk) 17:09, 17 February 2023 (UTC)

Oh... I didn't know that until this message appeared in my talk page. I'll probably get to that soon. Sheep (talkhe/him) 17:34, 17 February 2023 (UTC)

How did this tag misnesting happen?

Are you checking your edits? This edit deleted parts of a signature. If this regex was used to replace similar signatures in other pages, please revert or fix them. – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:31, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

Oh... I'm gonna have to check my code... I was busy doing other stuff so I did not have time to check edits. I'll get to it soon. Sheep (talkhe/him) 00:33, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
Apparently I was using the outdated regex \<font +(color|face|size|style) *\= *["']?[^"]*["']? *\>\<\/font *\>, which was supposed to delete empty font tags. When it broke I had to fix it to remove the ? after the ["'] part. I am often in a rush when preparing to run my bot. Sheep (talkhe/him) 00:36, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
Tbh I use two computers in two different locations, so to transfer AWB settings without redoing it on another PC, I would save settings on OneDrive to sync to both computers. Unfortunately the setting file was about weeks ago, so that's why I used the outdated regex :( Sheep (talkhe/him) 01:14, 19 February 2023 (UTC)
Any time you change your regex, it is important to test it on a few relevant pages before letting the bot run unattended. – Jonesey95 (talk) 02:12, 19 February 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for tag help

Hi! Thanks for help with my signature. I'm aware that "font" is depreciated, but I haven't edited that signature in many years. I notice that in your suggested signature you removed the forced mdash and replaced it with a character instead. Should I be doing this as standard practice, is that a stylistic choice, or does it no longer matter either way? — Gopher65talk 05:44, 21 February 2023 (UTC)

It doesn't really matter, but if you want to use the mdash you should use the source code (not the unicodified code) of the signature. The mdash turning to a character is known as unicodifying, which apparently nowiki tags do not prevent this. Sheep (talkhe/him) 12:04, 21 February 2023 (UTC)

Partial list of misnested font tags in signatures, with counts

Please see the "Extended content" in the first section of this list. You may find this list helpful for finding particularly tricky font tags to repair. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:36, 25 February 2023 (UTC)

Also, I have listed a number of signatures with misnested font tags in that "Misnested tag" section. Your bot should be able to work on many of them. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:06, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
I could get to that one day, but I don't know if it's safe to fix misnested tags with my bot while doing font tag fixing... (What I mean is if fixing these tags counts as "outside the conditions of approval".) Sheep (talkhe/him) 01:49, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
It seems to me that replacing a set of misnested font tags with a set of properly placed span tags would fit within your bot's approval, but you could post a question at the BRFA page, with a link to a sample edit like this one. – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:47, 26 February 2023 (UTC)

Rollback granted

Hi Sheep8144402. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or RedWarn.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 13:59, 3 March 2023 (UTC)

I have stopped your bot since it is malfunctioning by removing signatures such as [4]. I am guessing you have given the bot only the find regex without replace regex for User:Essjay's signature. ಮಲ್ನಾಡಾಚ್ ಕೊಂಕ್ಣೊ (talk) 16:08, 5 March 2023 (UTC)

Re: signature

Hi, thanks for the heads up. The reason I have it that way is because with span tags, the underline isn't the custom color, unlike with font tags. I've used this signature on other wikis in the past without issue, so unless there's an easy workaround to change the underline color (when the link is clicked), I don't see a huge need to change it. JediMasterMacaroni(Talk) 20:54, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

You can use text-decoration: inherit; to change the link color, but in cases where you have tags, unfortunately there will be two lines when hovering over the link. I don't know why :( Sheep (talk) 23:57, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
Okay, so that's not ideal then - is it against policy to use outdated html tags or is it just a recommendation? JediMasterMacaroni(Talk) 00:54, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
It's not against policy, but it's better if you switch to span tags. Sheep (talk) 01:11, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
Since it's not against policy I think I'll keep it as is. I know it's not most people's preference but I don't see the harm in it. JediMasterMacaroni(Talk) 01:15, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

Signature

Hi Sheep--please do me (us) a favor, and adjust the colors in your signature. The dark green letters on a black background, they are very hard to read, especially for a visually impaired person. Please see WP:SIGAPP--it's an accessibility issue, and it's not optional. There's much useful information at MOS:COLOR. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 17:41, 6 April 2023 (UTC)

Hello, in case you don't know, the contrast ratio is 9.63:1. I am fine removing the black background, but that would mean the contrast ratio would be 2.17:1. Per WP:SIGAPP, the recommended ratio is 4.5:1. Thanks for your advance.
My sig would look like this if I were to remove the black background: Sheep (talkhe/him) If you accept the suggestion, feel free to let me know. Thanks. Sheep (talkhe/him) 17:45, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
Where are you getting the 9.63:1? To my aging eyes the light background is more readable than the black, but is still a bit difficult to read. Phil Bridger (talk) 18:16, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
TBH I have removed the black background from my sig, but I got this contrast ratio for a contrast ratio calculator (I used this). I input the colors from my sig and I got the 9.63:1.
I thought using the black background would be good for my sig, but unfortunately Drmies thought my sig was hard to read despite the contrast ratio. If you want me to change the color to #008000, then go ahead. Sheep (talkhe/him) 18:19, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
Phil Bridger, same kind of eyes here. Sheep, light font on a black background is always hard to read. Your new version looks better, though I haven't measured it: a slightly darker green would certainly help. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 23:21, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
I have made the color #008800 now tbh. Sheep (talkhe/him) 23:45, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
OK--thanks. I can see that fine, but I'll caveat that by saying I'm not really visually impaired except just by regular old age. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 16:48, 7 April 2023 (UTC)

Re: "Multiple IPs"

Just regarding this edit; the use of "multiple IPs" is simply down to being an unregistered account editing across different locations (office, home, mobile etc). Per WP:IPHUMAN this is not inherently wrong and most if not all users do access wikipedia from more than one IP. If you would please look again at the article in question it is clear that the other user involved is ignoring multiple attempts to discuss their contested addition and is ignoring an active RFC in relation to it too, something much less constructive for the project than simply not registering with a username. Thanks. 194.32.31.1 (talk) 15:14, 17 April 2023 (UTC)

Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to 2023 Sudan clashes: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template index/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. Firestar464 (talk) 00:06, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
