Life and career

Tay was born in Singapore and immigrated to the United States at the age of seven. Her family settled in Connecticut for several years before relocating to the Philippines. She spent her sophomore year at the International School Manila and then returned to the United States to complete her high-school education at a boarding school in Massachusetts. Tay attended Boston University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism, with a minor in International Relations.[3]

Tay started her Broadcasting career in Boston, where she anchored, wrote and produced a weekend news show for a local cable station. In 1993, KMST-TV, now KION in Salinas, California, hired her as a general assignment reporter. She went on to become the consumer investigative reporter producing and anchoring a weekly franchise . Soon thereafter, Tribune Broadcasting hired Tay for its KTLA-5 Los Angeles staff as a general assignment reporter. She went on to become a weekend anchor and, ultimately, an anchor for the early morning edition of the news.[3] While at KTLA, Tay also hosted a documentary series on The National Geographic Channel called "The Human Edge".

Tay left KTLA in December 2004 for MSNBC. There she hosted two shows "MSNBC at the Movies" and "MSNBC Entertainment Hot List"[4] In 2006 Tay subsequently returned to Los Angeles local news at CBS 2 and KCAL9, the #1 prime newscast in the Los Angeles market.[3] In November 2013, Tay was moved to KCBS-TV's morning newscast from 4:30-7:00 a.m. and the midday newscast from 11:00-11:30 a.m. In October 2018 Tay moved to KCAL9’s 4pm and 9pm newscasts.[5]

In May of 2020 Tay left the Broadcast Industry. She is now in the Real Estate industry. Tay currently lives in Los Angeles, California.

@331dot: FYI, unblocked following ticket:2023082310008758. User does appear to have a COI with Sharon Tay and has been warned about COI editing. @Sharontayofficial: for reference, Wikipedia:Conflict of interest outlines the expectations of dealing with most conflict situations. — xaosflux Talk 18:51, 23 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
If it's not Sharon Tay, shouldn't they change their username? 331dot (talk) 18:59, 23 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@331dot did you read the ticket? — xaosflux Talk 20:55, 23 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
I don't have that level of access. 331dot (talk) 22:27, 23 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@331dot ah ok, in that ticket this user presented real-name info to match this real name. — xaosflux Talk 09:00, 24 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
It was my understanding that "X name official" accounts were not permitted because of the potential for shared use and the fact that they are operated by representatives and not the named person themselves(typically). 331dot (talk) 09:04, 24 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
@331dot hmm, if you (or anyone else) wants to block again based on that go ahead. The ticket contains reasonable information that this account is controlled by that that person, and they are the only person using it. Realistically, I doubt this account is going to ever edit again as they only seem interested in the article about themselves and have been told not to directly edit it. — xaosflux Talk 13:34, 24 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
That's okay, I'm just trying to understand what's happened. No worries. 331dot (talk) 15:36, 24 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
