Hi, I am no expert really. Just trying my best. Agha or more correctly Aqa آقا is definitely Altaic. It is also of Mongolian origin [1]. The article by Professor Morgan states: "Mongolian title, essentially mean­ing “elder brother” and by extension “senior member of the family.” " The word entered Persian literature after the Mongol invasion and we do not see it in Persian literature of Ghaznavid and Seljuk era. --alidoostzadeh 12:24, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

By the way I made some edits to dinawar you might want to look at. Basically there are several sources I recommend: Encyclopedia of Islam (this can be accessed online through many western universities), www.jstor.org (again universities), Encyclopedia Britannica, Encyclopedia Iranica[www.iranica.com],and the best is google books (if you are trying to argue on an issue). --alidoostzadeh 02:46, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Silaw

Silaw berêz, the user iranchi does not follow logics, and I personally prefer discussing with other pro-azari editors. The mixed areas are Khoi, Urmia and Miandoab. Sainqala and takab too have some azari villages close to east azarbaijan border. but user iranchi is marking much of the province as mixed areas which is really unacceptable. Dubare Silaw. Hiwadaram Sali Nwetan Piruz Bet. Perhaps another solution is to simply show various maps. My suggestion about self-made maps which both users agree upon was simply to get rid of this dispute by putting dashes (mixed) in areas that might be disputed. This will get rid of edit wars in Wikipedia. Although if you look at the article west Azerbaijan the issue comes up again and again. So that was the reason I made my suggestion, not because I am taking sides, but because I believe the matter will not be resolved in Wikipedia by various users. Of course you are free to put any valid academic map also by Wikipedia policy. So you are free to do what you think is best. That was just my humble suggestion. Zakarid-Mxargrzeli

Please let me know why you changed "Iraninan" to "Kurdish" in the article Zakarid-Mxargrzeli? My ressources tell thet originate from Artaxerxes II of Persia. He was kurdish? Alexandre Tch. (talk) 15:33, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Kurds are an Iranian people just like Swedish or English people are Germanic. Being Kurdish does not mean non-Iranian. Kurdish means all Iranians who live in northwestern Persia. Sharishirin (talk) 14:34, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi do you have the actual text for the book you just quoted relative to Nizami? I have written a 200+ page article on Nizami in English describing the forgery madeup in the USSR era and how every aspect of Nizami belonged to the Iranian civilization. His father's ancestry clearly goes back to Shaddadid times and he was raised by his Kurdish maternal uncle. Also he makes it clear in several parts that he is not of Turkic origin. Culturally of course he wrote only in Persian and wrote about Iranian folklore and epics (Sassanids). Elyas ebn Yusuf Nezami is considered to be one of the very greatest of Persian poets and his five narrative poems (his "Khamseh" or "Quintet") are by general consent the finest narrative poems of the Persian literary tradition after the Shahnameh of Ferdowsi. .... His mother was an Iranian Kurd and it is possible that his father had the same ethnic origin, though he is claimed also by Turkish Azerbaijanis as being of their stock... Thanks that is an excellent source. Although due to too much debates about Nizami's fatherline, it was decided not to mention it in Wikipedia. But the claim that it was "Turkic"(actually they used Azerbaijani instead of Turkic) is baseless and it was made during the USSR era for the sake of nation building. The worst part of the claim, is that the Shirvanshah forced Nizami to write in Persian! where-as if Nizami wanted to write Turkish, he would do so for a Turkish dynasty. Also he considers every word of Shirvanshah's letter as a blossomed flower and blessed. Furthermore, not a single verse of Turkish appears from the area until 200 years after Nizami. Nizami's cultural heritage is part of the Iranian civilization and he considers himself as a successor of Ferdowsi. He mentions that he is the successor of Ferdowsi proudly. He also entrusts his son to the Shirvanshah's son and advises him to read the Shahnameh. He uses Sassanid folklore/epic and he considers Khusraw o Shirin to be the sweetest story, and it is a Sassanid story. There is no trace of any Oghuz epic or sort to assign him a Turkic identity. His ancestry goes back to before the Seljuq era, and he came from Urban background. Anyhow the man's culture and works are nothing but Iranian. An interesting source with this regard is also Diakonov. In his 1991 book (paths of history originally in Russian translated by someone else in 1999), he writes that: "Nizami lived in Ganja, a Turkic speaking city, but he wrote in Persian". So he does not give a ethnic background and just talks about the current situation of Ganja and the language Nizami wrote in, without getting specific. But with the complete breakup of the USSR, he wrote his memoirs. (Diakonoff:And it was planned an anniversary of the great poet Nizami celebration in Azerbaijan. There were slight problems with Nizami - first of all he was not Azeri but Persian (Iranian) poet, and though he lived in presently Azerbaijani city of Ganja, which, like many cities in the region, had Iranian population in Middle Ages.)[5]. Overall, the country of Azerbaijan, Iran and etc. should be proud of his heritage and they all share it (I do not want to act like Stalin who said:who must not be surrendered to Iranian literature, despite having written most of his poems in Persian.(although Nizami does not have a verse in Turkish but some people tried to falsely give them impression he did although Nizami just mentions that he has Persian and his proud of his poetry (much like Hafez, Naswer Khusraw were proud of their Persian poetry)). He is part and parcel of Iranian civilization (which Azerbaijanis also have a share of) not Turkic civilization. He was raised by his Kurdish uncle and culturally he was part of the civilization that dates back to Sassanid, Parthian, Achaemenids, Medes... I totally agree. Unfortunately in Wikipedia there was too much arguments over his background and browsing through the literature now I find sources that even say his fatherline was Jewish or Arabic or .. which is just not true. It was not Turkic either, his fatherline lacks any Turkic names where-as Eldiguzids, Seljuds, Atabekan MAragheh (Ahmadilis) all had Turkic names. The fact is that he was raised by his Kurdish maternal uncle, and usually we know, Kurds marry Kurd specially the non-nobility and with this regard. I have other proofs as well which I will send you in the E-mail soon. I am just adding some new materials and your source was great. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge!
