I was not aware that it was official Wiki policy to have separate chains for studio and live albums. Thanks for the insight. Mattbrundage (talk) 03:22, 7 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of File:Jasoncure.jpg

edit

A tag has been placed on File:Jasoncure.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Unreferenced BLPs

edit

Hello Shaneymike! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 903 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Jonathan Lachlan-Stewart - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Philip Pacaud - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  3. James Blight - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

It's been a while since I last looked at those. I'll try to improve them the best I can. If they fail to meet Wiki standards, I won't contest their deletion. Shaneymike (talk) 18:30, 25 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Soulbender

edit

A tag has been placed on Soulbender requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. discog chains

edit

Just FYI I agree with you about the Alice in Chains chain. I tried to do the same at Anthrax but Libs and like 5 of his sock puppets argued against me. Luminifer (talk) 06:09, 28 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

And yet they are allowing the New Order album chain to stand as is, even though Sap and Jar of Flies are arguably more significant than this 1981 – Factus 8 – 1982. I think we should have a discussion about this on the Alice in Chains talk page. Shaneymike (talk) 17:51, 28 March 2010 (UTC)== Alice in Chains album chain ==Reply
I am not entirely sure I would agree that Jar of Flies belongs in the Alice in Chains studio album chain simply on the basis that it was the first EP to debut at number one on the Billboard 200. The New Order EP 1981 – Factus 8 – 1982 was significant for a very different reason: it signaled a change in artistic direction and acted as a bridge between the still Joy Division-like Movement LP and the New Order-as-we-know-it Power, Corruption & Lies. This is indicated in the body of the main band article.
One could reasonably argue that Jar of Flies signaled a change in artistic direction between Dirt and Alice in Chains. Plus Jar of Flies was the frist Alice in Chains release with Mike Inez on bass. Shaneymike (talk) 13:41, 31 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism

edit

When a person makes a series of consecutive edits like that you can just go back to the state before they started editing, you don't need to undo them one at a time. The procedure is to go to the IP's talk page and leave a warning, if they continue (or are already warned) report them at WP:AIV.

  1. The edits of the user you are reporting must be considered vandalism.
  2. The user must be given sufficient recent warnings to stop.
  3. Unregistered users must be active now, and the warnings must be recent.

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:31, 19 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Nomination of Philip Pacaud for deletion

edit

A discussion has begun about whether the article Philip Pacaud, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Philip Pacaud until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. —J04n(talk page) 12:05, 20 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for File:Babacar promo.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Babacar promo.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 18:06, 8 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:07, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Madfly

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Madfly requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button that looks like this:   which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. TRANSPORTERMAN (TALK) 19:52, 15 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:Comeswithfallalbum.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Replaceable fair use File:Comeswiththefallpromo.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Comeswiththefallpromo.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 15:46, 21 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

FYI

edit

Hey there, I noticed a few of the articles you have edited (that I also have on my watchlist) have included sources from Blogger, ReverbNation.com, Facebook, Myspace and YouTube among others. Social networking and blog sites (the first three) are not considered reliable source by wikipedia's standards (see WP:USERGENERATED), simply because anyone can make them (even if they are made by the band members themselves, it still fails due to it not being a source from a third, indepedent party). YouTube is also not considered reliable; see discussions here and here as well as WP:YOUTUBE.

I'm not going to remove the sources and content because I believe that a lot of it is true, just needs better sources. With anything Seattle related, I've found that Allmusic, Seattle Weekly, The Seattle Times, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, The Stranger and The Daily of the University of Washington to be quite usefull as sources. Also search for newspapers and magazines specific to the area a band formed (Los Angeles Times, New York Post, Tucson Weekly, etc). Also music sites such as Rolling Stone, Pitchfork Media, Billboard, MTV, VH1, Blabbermouth.net, Metal Hammer and Rock Sound can be usefull as well. Anyway, please take care with sourcing in the future though. Regards. HrZ (talk) 16:37, 19 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

You have already been told this? Feel like a bit of a dick now! The closest thing to what you are after in terms of having your work looked at is perhaps the peer review, though I'm not entirely sure. Actually, one way of doing it is to work on the article in your own subpage, like I've done here, then request for feedback at WP:FEED. I'm happy to help also, going to see if I can find anymore sources for Alice N' Chains and My Sister's Machine at some point. HrZ (talk) 14:40, 22 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
