Sockariffic edit

Welcome to the madhouse :) It's good to see you around here! I am glad to see, you know, experts working on the science articles (now there's a concept! Keep it up and you might give Larry Sanger a coronary!) I hope you find your editing easy and your interactions fun.

The help pages have more documentation than you ever probably wanted to know about WP, but also feel free to ask me if you have any questions. The planets and Mars articles could certainly use some work. (And there's more here). At any rate, if you find yourself getting reverted, try working on some of the smaller and less trafficked articles first, or else hit them over the head with Georef :) You can sign your name on talk pages with four tildes, like so: ~~~~. Thanks, you see that it took me a while to actually get going on this! Thanks, in large part, to your awesome book.

I'll add a welcome note too. Glad to have another rock nut around. I see you've added yourself to the geology project list ... twice -- guess that makes up for me not getting 'round to it :-) And maybe I oughta get that book you mentioned so I can figger out how this place works. Mesosphere (mantle) edit

I see you added a link to mesosphere in Structure of the Earth and then removed it. I've re-added the link to Mesosphere (mantle) - assuming that you weren't aware of that page. However the page needs a bit of work and states that it has "lost favor" with geologists. I'm not up on the latest in that category - is mesosphere out of favor and did you remove it from the structure page for that reason? (You can reply here as I've watchlisted your talk page.) Yes, I couldn't find the mantle mesosphere page. But, that is what I wanted. I don't think mesosphere is totally in favor, although I don't think (at least I can't come up with one from the top of my head) there is a universally used term for the mantle underlying the asthenosphere, so I was uncertain of what to place there. The best I could come up with was mesosphere I can dig around and see if any of the more recent textbooks use it. I usually just say underlying mantle, which isn't particularly descriptive.

I also need to go into the asthenosphere section and write a bit more. It is still very much a mystery layer. I am a bit torn of how much material to put in this section since mantle/crust/etc have their own wiki pages, but I think the basics (i.e. at least mentioning olivine, might be a good idea). What do you think? Seorwz (talk) 14:01, 19 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Asthenosphere exists and is in need of expansion too. Vsmith (talk) 15:00, 19 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Redid the mesosphere (mantle) page per Condie's Plumes book. See what you've done :-) (kinda like butterfly wings flappin'). Vsmith (talk) 02:51, 19 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

ha - ha, yes it is nice to have a partner in crime.
