October 2011 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page The Civil Wars has been reverted.
Your edit here to The Civil Wars was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (http://facebook.com/thecivilwars) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 04:38, 18 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

The Civil Wars edit

Hi Nate, Thanks for your message. I appreciate your contributions to The Civil Wars article. However, Wikipedia is a collaborative project and articles are always changing. There could be many reasons for changes such as adding new information, improving grammar, spelling, organization and flow, removing off topic information, or information that does not conform to Wikipedia's hundreds of pages of policies and guidelines. Above all, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a newspaper or magazine or a blog etc. So there is a certain standard of style and content as outlined by the polices and guidelines. Today I made many changes to the article on The Civil Wars and if you disagree or want to discuss something specific it would be best to do it on the article talk page. But we can start here today to discuss general principles of editing. One of your concerns, I think is that I removed and replaced external links to your company Sensibility Music. (see WP:EL) Someone, (most likely you) had inserted external links in citations that led to the home page for Sensibility Music. That is not permitted by WP:EL nor is it reader friendly to have to go to a home page and then for the reader to have to click through to get to the page that has the information that the citation and text refers to. So I created direct links (URL's) to the bio page of the Official Web Site for TCW and used the URL which bears their name. The topic is TCW, so we want a direct URL link to the exact page of their web site that contains the cited information. I have also removed other information that was off topic, or tangential etc. and will likely be removing more content as it contains a lot of micro details that are relevant for a fan web site or a magazine article but are not appropriate for an encyclopedia. I hope this is helpful. If you have concerns about specific items I have removed or changed. Let's discuss it on the article talk page. Cheers! --KeithbobTalk 22:19, 13 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
