May 2019 edit

There have been two problems with this account: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is also against policy, as an account must be for just one person. Because of those problems, the account has been blocked indefinitely from editing. Additionally, If you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for your contributions to Wikipedia, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

If you intend to make useful contributions about some topic other than your business or organisation, you may request an unblock. To do so, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:CentralAuth to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In that reason, you must:

  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block. To do so, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page, replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason for thinking that the block was an error, and publish the page. 331dot (talk) 12:54, 16 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. I am glad to see that you are discussing a topic. However, as a general rule, talk pages such as Talk:International Continental Scientific Drilling Program are for discussion related to improving the article in specific ways based on reliable sources and the project policies and guidelines, not for general discussion about the topic or unrelated topics, or statements based on your thoughts or feelings. If you have specific questions about certain topics, consider visiting our reference desk and asking them there instead of on article talk pages. Thank you. • I see that you are based in Germany. If you use the German Wikipedia, you should know that each language version of Wikipedia is its own project and has its own rules, procedures, and administrators. Here on the English Wikipedia, account names that are that of a business or organization are not permitted; I am aware that they are permitted and even encouraged on the German Wikipedia, but that is not the case here. The English Wikipedia also does not permit direct edits by those with a conflict of interest with an article subject. To be unblocked, please follow the instructions in the notice above. 331dot (talk) 13:00, 16 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

Sorry! I simply did not know that guidelines were violated with my last edit. This is one on my first edits of a user talk page. Didn't know that strict rules here as well, and didn't know that my content was considered promotional stuff etc)

Decline reason:

You forgot to follow the instructions. You need to pick a new username and you need to tell us what you'll edit instead. Yamla (talk) 13:06, 16 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

{{unblock-spamun|sek42outr|Will undo the policy-violating edits on the ICDPwiki user talk page. Will not edit english-lang International_Continental_Scientific_Drilling_Program page because of COI. Primary goal (before blocking) was to add links to new scientific papers anyway; and a few pictures of geological landmarks perhaps, because until now there are zero pics on the page. Actually I am glad that I was warned before starting major edits that were probably about to be rolled back anyways.}} You can't remove declined unblock requests while blocked, I have restored it. Your edits have already been removed. 331dot (talk) 13:29, 16 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

(Non-administrator comment) Hi sek42outr (in the future). You can edit COI related pages, but please disclose it. See WP:DISCLOSE. --94rain Talk 13:37, 16 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
94rain Disclosure does not necessarily permit a COI editor to directly edit within their COI. WP:COI states, "you are strongly discouraged from editing affected articles directly". They should make edit requests and even that won't be allowed if they are only here to promote their organization. 331dot (talk) 13:41, 16 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
I can't see adding links to papers. Wikipedia is not a webhost for you to link to papers, and that would probably fall under promotion. Any external links would be limited to sourcing content, and papers would not meet the need for reliable sources and secondary sources. I think it would be best if you find a non conflict of interest area to edit about. My inference is you are here to promote International Continental Scientific Drilling Program ‎and to drive traffic to them. DlohCierekim 14:08, 16 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Request reason:

The only nontrivial edits I made were on the ICDPwiki User *talk page* and 1 Article *talk page* where I just announced edits, such as adding links to papers. *Future* edits that would be, admittedly, somewhat COI'ed. However, with respect to the International_Continental_Scientific_Drilling_Program article, some insider knowledge is required to add new and relevant information, IMHO. Driving traffic to the org's website was never really a goal. The goal is to add links to new information in specialized field(s). Papers would link to peer-reviewed publications made by independent third parties (teams of scientists). Therefore, I still think, indefinite blocking is too harsh. A warning or a rollback would have been more approriate. But I promise to stick closely to guidelines in the future. Sek42outr (talk) 14:30, 16 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only. This unblock request has been open for more than two weeks but has not proven sufficiently convincing for any reviewing administrator to take action. You are welcome to request a new block review if you substantially reword your request. Yamla (talk) 21:29, 26 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
