Hi. just wondering if you had a chance to look at my request on the mediation? Thanks GainLine 16:07, 21 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

HURDAT edit

It's suddenly become more urgent for this page to be within wikipedia, due to comments made in the 1987 Atlantic hurricane season timeline FAC. Once a section is quickly created explaining its format, it should be placed within wikipedia, to avoid any further FAC problems. Thegreatdr (talk) 18:39, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Temporary case clerk need to cover Abd-WMC case edit

Hi there. You are listed as active at the clerks page. Would you be able to have a look here? I'm looking for one of the currently active clerks to look after the case for a few days until Hersfold is back? If one of the five clerks listed as active could volunteer, that would be great. FPC Closures edit

Hi Seddon, I notice you did a few FP closures. Can you just make sure you followed all steps in the procedure? I haven't checked closely, but I did notice when closing another nom that your closures don't show up in the August archives. (You may have missed the changes when the Recently Closed section came in, but you add the closed nom to both there and the archive at the same time). Cheers, --jjron (talk) 08:15, 16 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yep, have seen others miss adding it to the archives myself, especially since the 'recently closed' section came in, not that I've been checking recently (so good pickup there on finding others). Yeah, we've talked about a script many times, and in fact MER-C has one, but it's restricted to only a few users (I'm one of them, but I've never actually used it). It also doesn't cover the whole thing, problem is that FPC closing is really quite an intricate process with quite a lot of 'ifs' and 'buts' that almost have to be assessed by a human on a case by case basis. --jjron (talk) 12:55, 16 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

User talk:Santasa99 edit

Regarding your block of User talk:Santasa99, there is something compelling in his explanation. It is not the standard "my little brother did it", and upon investigation of the three accounts, it does look as though they are likely operated by family members of the same household. I agree that the fact that all family members voted in discussions gives the appearance of WP:MEAT sorts of problems, I think that this user was unaware of the problems that may have caused. If the accounts declare their connection, and agree to not give the appearance of colluding in voting discussions, what do you think? What is your opinion on the situation? --Jayron32 03:38, 18 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

User talk:C.Kent87 edit

This user is requesting unblocking; he was blocked as a result of Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/C.Kent87/Archive. He's promising to stick to one account. Personally, I have a hard time understanding this investigation; the only assertions in the Sockpuppet investigation were that a "vandalism" edit (in which I don't see the vandalism, just a big change) was made by the IP and later C.Kent87. That doesn't even look like sockpuppetry, just accidentally not logging in. It turns out, C.Kent87 had an alternate account, no abuse was asserted for that account, but now both accounts are indef blocked. Can we unblock C.Kent87, now that he's promised to give up the alternate account? He seems to acknowledge it is an improper account but it's not so clear to me, the contributions look pretty well segregated. Mangojuicetalk 14:55, 20 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I don't know much about this case either, but in C.Kent87's revert, he referred to the IP as "the anon", not himself. Not a particularly egregious bit of sockpuppetry, but it does show that even if editing from an IP was accidental, he did end up pretending it was someone else. He has promised to discontinue all socking, though, so it may be moot (if we take his word for it). -kotra (talk) 22:37, 21 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
I concur with the above assessments, and would endorse unblocking this user, given the facts of this case. --Jayron32 03:51, 22 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Why was Original Clark Sisters page deleted? edit

I'm wondering why you felt it necessary to delete the page on the (original) Clark Sisters, that I created? And especially, why it needed to be done in such a hurry? Your deletion indicated that you did not think that they were significant enough. With all due respect, who the heck are you to be deciding what is significant in American Jazz music? It appears that you are a U.K. Wiki user; that being the case, I would respectfully suggest that my expertise in this area (being a respected program host on a Jazz radio station, and an acknowledged authority on 1930s era American Jazz) is superior to yours, unless there's something I'm not seeing. I would never have the hubris to propose deletion of an article on a British skiffle act; so much for the supposed "Arrogant American". JazzCarnival (talk) 03:15, 4 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

FOLLOW UP: And a month later, you still haven't done me the courtesy of replying to my inquiry. I'll be moving this matter on to another (hopefully more competent), editor for resolution. In the future, if you can't be responsive, then please just leave the editing to those that actually understand and appreciate the purpose of WikiPedia - it's not your personal sandbox to play with! To Persian Empire people edit

Don't use my talk page as an alternative venue to argue with each other. You have six days till the page is unprotected. Concentrate on hammering out a concensus acceptable to all parties instead of bitching at and about each other. Seddσn talk|WikimediaUK 01:31, 5 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Um, I haven't been involved at Persian Empire at all. I came to the WP:ANI discussion as an uninvolved party. And I still think your archiving was hasty; could you please consider reversing it? --Akhilleus (talk) 01:34, 5 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Apologies, have struck the comment, however I simply wanted to prevent what was clearly gonna degenerate. With regards to the ANI discussion, from my experiences in DR, where repeated protections are being applied and have been ineffective, its unlikely that concensus will stick from discussion that is not acceptable to all parties (without being enforced by article topic bans, revert bans or other preventative measures). I will recommend and if i have time before work, start an RFC myself to aid the discussion. The parties should be allowed to try and work this our themselves one last time. If that doesnt work, then returning to this discussion would be suitable after the end of the current protection. Seddσn talk|WikimediaUK 01:47, 5 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
Apparently there is an rfc going. It would be useful for editors to comment there. Seddσn talk|WikimediaUK 01:55, 5 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

I am in receipt of your displeased response to my unappreciative comment. Please note the following:
  1. This is the fourth FAC for Crown Fountain.
  2. The FAC was started 02:03, 26 August 2009, which is three and a half weeks ago.
  3. Your responses to my request have been jocular.
  4. I have tried to clarify the seriousness of my request.
  5. We nearly had to remove our main image in video from the article and replace it with a still image to pass at FAC.
  6. You missed your own deadline.
  7. I am a bit frustrated because first my co-author left me at the altar on this one after committing to undertaking the task.
  8. I have been given numerous unusual responses that help would not be arriving (Cirt Russavia Shoemaker's Holiday).
  9. Some people didn't help because they thought the issue was resolved.
  10. I got so frustrated trying to follow help desk instructions that I had to make a second request for assistance.
  11. The issue has been resolved.
With all that being said, I apologize for my sarcastic note on your page. You were caught in the crossfire resulting from efforts that have been quite frustrating. Please accept the cookies attached to this response as a gesture of my good faith.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 13:49, 20 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Block reduction edit

Though I don't personally object to your reduction of Jacurek's block length, the language in the header of WP:AE suggests that an action like yours needs community review (since the original block was pursuant to an Arbcom sanction). The most recent unblock thread at AE was closed on November 4 with no action taken. That thread is still on the board, so it suggests that it's the community opinion that the block should be maintained. Would you consider posting your decision somewhere for review? Notification of arbitration enforcement edit

You have reversed my removal of an arbitration notification at Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Palestine-Israel articles, with the summary "Notifications do not have to be undertaken by administrators". But the notification itself states "This notice is only effective if given by an administrator and logged here." So if such notice is given by a non-admin, it is not effective, and it is therefore misleading to list it; this would mistakenly suggest that an editor had been validly warned, and could lead to sanctions being applied without proper prior warning. Copuld you please clarify this. I'm not sure what is the right place to raise this as a general question; please could you tell me which is the appropriate forum? Thanks.RolandR (talk) 11:58, 9 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Copyedeye requesting unblock edit

Hello Seddon. Would I be correct in thinking that the basis for the meatpuppet comment in your block notice is this edit by Copyedeye to the Gary Weiss article? Copyedeye's previous edits are nearly all to the Press TV article, which is about an Iranian TV channel. I did not know that Gary Weiss or Mantanmoreland cared about Iranian TV, but stranger things have happened.

There was only a one-week block given for the December 2009 shenanigans at Press TV documented in Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Copyedeye/Archive. (There was some abuse of multiple accounts which included IPs). I can see a possible case for indef based on this mischief but in that case it needs to be explained properly in the unblock dialog. If you think the single edit pertaining to Gary Weiss is completely conclusive then that would be interesting to know.

See also Alison's 'Likely' verdict that Copyedeye could be a sock here, though she didn't designate the sockmaster. I'm not suggesting that a major injustice has been done, it's just that the story is not clear in the unblock dialog. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 19:52, 11 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Copyedeye has answered some further questions, and you may want to check his talk page one more time to see if it affects your thinking about an indef block. I myself will not unblock at this time. Since I notice you sometimes do not edit Wikipedia for several days, I'll notify MuZemike, the previous blocker, as well. EdJohnston (talk) 01:28, 14 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Zeno editing edit

Last week Steaphen asked for arbitration [6] on the Zeno issue, since nothing happened for a month on his request for mediation. The arbitration request was declined by the committee, pointing to the fact that mediation hasn't been followed through.

Also, the page attracted the attention of other editors, probably caused by the arbitration request. They have worked in the last few days to remove tags on weasel words, lack of sources, and occurrence of original research. In the course they also added some references that Steaphen seemed to be asking for in mediation. However, one of the few tags left is the POV tag inserted by Steaphen. If we would follow through with mediation, it might be possible to also settle that issue as well and to move on. Ansgarf (talk) 05:29, 15 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Repeating my question in light of your second notice. The requirement is as follows:
"Please limit your main evidence to a maximum 1000 words and 100 diffs and keep responses to other evidence as short as possible".[emphasis added]
My main evidence is 628 words, well under the limit. My Rebuttal to other evidence is 666 words. Your notice is in error.Fladrif (talk) 13:36, 25 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

I've reduced my evidence and rebuttals to 1,007 words. Thanks much for alerting me to this. TimidGuy (talk) 12:11, 25 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

I will post a shorter Evidence Statement tomorrow. Hickorybark (talk) 02:44, 26 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

I see that askolick's evidence now weighs in at 3,300 words. TimidGuy (talk) 11:35, 1 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Uncivil editor and irrelevant material at Asgardian case edit

Hi, Seddon. I've been corresponding with your fellow clerk on, AlexandrDmitri, on the Arbitration case at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Asgardian/Evidence, but he is away through March 25, so I thought I might ask your help if that's alright.

The material at Evidence presented by Scott Free on the project page doesn't address the specific points of this Arb and seems to be making a case for the creation of a tag template. It's tangential and irrelevant, and seems to be simply venting about a completely unrelated matter.

As well, he makes an uncivil, as well as inaccurate, accusation against other editors when he writes, "The mathematical odds of 3 people being in complete agreement in the choice of 6 out of 12 possibilities are rather high to say the least." This remark is an inaccurate, unfounded and, frankly, snide, accusation of collusion. For these reasons, I'd ask you to consider whether his postings on that section of the page is appropriate, and also for you to monitor whether he removes the false accusation, as I have asked him to do on that project's talk page.

I hate to bother a busy, volunteer clerk with this, but the complete irrelevancy and the slander compel me to ask. With thanks, --Tenebrae (talk) 00:01, 21 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
