Crazy changes by Gilgamesh

edit

Unfortunately, User:Gilgamesh is now imposing his own views by changing the transliterated Hebrew names of articles with redirects to unreadable Hebrew names and fonts, as if his criteria are the only ones to reckon with, when there are in fact several. My computer, as I am sure many others' as well, does not pick up his type of fonts, and thus he is messing up articles such as Safed, Hadera, Holon, Afula, Arad, Israel and many others defacing them and making them unreadable on the web. He is going to DESTROY the normal usage of Wikipedia's Hebrew transliterations to satisfy his own needs without there being any consensus. Common usages are being thrown out in favor of obscure and pedantic academic usages familiar to only a handful of unkown academics. He should be called upon to stop BEFORE he rushes to do further damage without any consensus being reached. All his changes should therefore be reverted. See all his recent contributions via: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Gilgamesh I thank you for your interest, and urge all readers here to act. Hebrew naming conventions

edit

At the present time there is a serious discussion taking place, aiming at some consensus that will result in "official" Wikipedia guidelines about how Hebrew should be used and written in Wikipedia articles. Because of your past or ongoing interest in these type of articles with Hebrew words in them, your attention is called to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Hebrew) [1] TO MAKE YOUR VIEWS KNOWN AND TO ADD TO THE DISCUSSION BEFORE THE "DOORS ARE SHUT" PLEASE SEE THE RELATED DISCUSSION PAGE AT Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Hebrew) [2] Thank you! England and Argentina football rivalry

edit

I just wanted to say thank you for your edits to this article. It's great that some Argentinian (Argentine? Which is best?) editors have been able to work on the article, so that should keep it fair and balanced. Even though I'm English I tried my best to keep my contributions to it neutral point of view. Thanks again, anyway! Angmering 20:36, 15 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:WikiProject Falklands War

edit

Welcome to the project. I notice that you are Argentinian, do you have access to any Spanish language biographies ? The only real "balanced" view of the conflict I have is from two books:

  1. Falklands Air War
  2. The Fight For the Malvinas

The current articles could certainly use a view from both sides. If you have any areas of special interest/expertise let me know. One page I've been working on is Weapons of the Falklands War - which could definately use some input.

Anyway. Be bold.

England_and_Argentina_football_rivalry

edit

I read the article I'm referring on the subject, and I think it's great, but it needs more context... Although your fixes, this article has many POVs from an English fan. I'm not very good on writing articles but I may suggest you to add the following topics not taken into account for this article:

  • Consider the rivalry is beyond football;
  • Consider Argentina was Colonial territory of Spain a few centuries ago, and both Britain and Spain held shipwars on those years so Argentina might inherited some of that pica;
  • Take into account the two British invasions before May Revolution (lo aprendí en primaria);
  • Take into account Argentine Carlos Reutemann lost F1 title for a single point in 1981 and many people believe that his boss (Briton Frank Williams) didn't help him so much when he disobeyed Williams' order to be overcome by Alan Jones at 1981 Brazilian Grand Prix;
  • Remember the foul committed by Aldo Duscher to David Beckham during match Deportivo La Coruña v Manchester United (2002, before World Cup), and after that British yellow press investigated whether Duscher's parents were involved on 1941-1945 WW2 Genocide (???).

I hope this be useful for the article. Regards, Mxcatania 18:53, 24 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

However, now that I have your attention, I tried the little godmode-light.js (in my monobook.js page) attempt at creating a rollback shortcut, and it did not work (Using 98se, firefox v. 1.0.6). Re: Argentina-sport-stub

edit
Part of the problem is that for SFD, 5-3 isn't a particularly small number. I happen to think it's enough to be deleted, but I think it's borderline enough that either decision would be reasonable for someone closing it (afterall, there's hardly any set number for what's enough to delete). However, I don't think it should've been undeleted (especially by someone who voted keep), as it isn't clearly against deletion policy.
If there was another administrator who frequented SFD who could close it, I'd be fine leaving it up to their judgement. But as far as I know, I'm the only administrator who's often there who didn't voice an opinion on it... --Mairi 04:35, 7 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Major football rivalries

edit

Hi, I do not think that Fla-Flu should be added to the Major football rivalries, because in Brazil we have other derbies of equal importance, like Palmeiras-Corinthians, Gre-Nal (Grêmio vs Internacional), Atlético Mineiro-Cruzeiro and Flamengo-Vasco. Maybe, I should move the Fla-Flu article to Brazilian football rivalries, or something like that, and translate from the Portuguese Wikipedia the pt:Clássico dos Milhões article and add it to the new article. Thanks, anyway. Regards, Carioca 19:49, 9 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

German Football National Team Statistics

edit

I would like to draw your attention to the official FIFA regulation where Deutscher Fußball Bund as identical body and FIFA member since 1904 represents all of Germany (former Deutsches Reich), former West Germany (Federal Republic of Germany) and Germany (Federal Republic of Germany). The statistics of FIFA are reflecting this listing Germany as triple world champions. Germany as defending champion of 1990 were not required to qualify for the 1994 finals.

Regarding the former Soviet republics, former Yugoslav republics, Czech Republic and Slovakia, they all emerged from disintegration not unification. In addition, the unification of Germany has been an asymmetric process as you might know the five states (Länder) of East Germany joined the Federal Republic in 1990. -- 80.137.117.115 20:30, 10 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Pablo-flores RfA again

edit

Sebastiankessel, there was another problem that happened due to an edit of yours to Pablo's RfA. The end time for an RfA should be 7 days from when it was posted to WP:RFA, not 7 days from when the RfA was created. If we did it from when it was created, a person could create the RfA and not post it until a few minutes before the end time, get a few support votes, and claim the person should be an admin. Please see further notes on this at Wikipedia_talk:Requests_for_adminship#Improper_dating.2Ftiming_of_RfAs. I know you meant well, and I'm not jumping on you or attacking you, I just want to urge you to be more careful in the future, ok? Thanks! --Durin 14:20, 15 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

  • The problem was the end date was wrong. I corrected it. You uncorrected it. It's no big deal; it passed 27-0-0 anyways. I'm just encouraging you to be more careful in the future and remember that the end date is 7 days from when it is posted to WP:RFA, not 7 days from when the nomination is created. It's an easy mistake to make. --Durin 16:13, 15 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
  • I already admitted not changing the Wednesday as noted at Wikipedia_talk:Requests_for_adminship#Improper_dating.2Ftiming_of_RfAs. Look, I'm not attacking you, ok? I've been trying to keep this light hearted, ok? We both made errors. For my part, I didn't touch the "Wednesday" because the day of the week is not normally in the end time/date. I mentally skipped right over it. Changing the 16th back to the 14th was incorrect too. I was pointing it out to you so that you know in the future the end date is from when it is posted on WP:RFA, not when the nomination is created. --Durin 16:22, 15 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

re: River Plate

edit

I was going to wait a couple more days to let people say their piece if they're interested. I was at my gramma's today, and saw that her globe says Plata R. (I don't remember the manufacturer). I also did a (gasp! WP:NOR!) survey of my family today, my siblings and their spice (my personal plural for "spouse"), and while none of them (go figure, Americans) knew the name of "the river that Montevideo and Buenos Aires are located on, that empties out into the Atlantic along the south side of Uruguay", when I offered the three possibilities "River Plate", "Plata River" and "Río de la Plata", those who were no longer still completely clueless said "Río de la Plata". My one brother-in-law (whose ignorance of geography is somewhat less than astounding to me) said "I've never heard of the River Plate, but I know what the Platte River is"... In short, nobody knows what the River Plate is, but they've at least heard of the Río de la Plata. Anyways, like I said, I'm willing to wait a few days for more people's input. I've also requested input at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Rivers/Naming#River Plate. That said, I asked another question on Talk:River Plate...to wit, why is there a link to Sierra del Plata? I see there's also an article at Sierra del Plata... It seems to me it should be Sierra de la Plata, which is, as it happens, a mountain range north of Granada, I believe... (cf. de:Río de la Plata...) The article states that it was an old legend, and so I'm thinking that there's a possibility that "del" could be correct, but only if "plata" was masculine grammatical gender (i.e., "el plata") back in the day, although if that's the case, all the mentions of Sierra de la Plata in other wikipedias are going to have to be corrected... Should we include some info on international club's championships? At leats if a team won a championship. Also, there should be some explanation of the qualification proccess for those championships. For instance, the number of Points gathered in the Apertura and Clausura for the previous season; Boca Juniors did not qualify for the 2006 Copa Libertadores de América because it only gathered 48 points in the 2004/05 season. Hey can you help me out

edit

This guy keeps reverting my map to a least correct one on the Spanish lanuage page. Can you help me back it up? thanks a lot. This is the response i got from the user. I believe it is wrong.

"Dear Sir,

Regardless of what CIA FactBook says, there is no Spanish-speaking community in Brazil. Brazilians speak Spanish as they speak English: as a foreign language.

Please, read the arguments in the discussion page of Spanish language and don't change the page without stating your arguments.

If you think Brazil should be included, then many countries in the world would have to be included in an English language map. For instances, 40% of Portuguese people speak English. Is Portugal an English-speaking country in the same way as you say Brazil speaks Spanish?

In a nutshell, your are confusing foreign language speakers with first or second language speakers. In Brazil, people speak Spanish only as a foreign language (excepting a few immigrants, of course, as in any country in the world).

Best regards,
