Thanks. Looks like I'll have time over the next few days. Do you want to choose? A possible one is Dux de Lux, a Category II building that everybody in Christchurch knows, heaps of tourists go there, and the landlord and the long tenant are in high profile public disputes. Today, it was on the front page of The Press once again.

Bird reviews

I see you upgraded Black Bishop. I currently have 4 bird articles I took from stub to at least start sitting at T:TDYK. The other three are: Yellow-crowned Bishop, White-winged Widowbird, and White-headed Buffalo-weaver? IMHO they are even better than black bishop and should be C or better if Black Bishop is. Thanks. The reason I touched Black Bishop was that it sat in the prep area and showed as being stub class. Once an article is DYK approved, it is by definition no longer a stub. Hence, I went in there and removed the stub tag on the article page, and reassessed the article on its talk page. When you submit articles to DYK that will 'make it', you should remove any stub tags yourself. You can reassess the article yourself (personally, I never assess my own articles as better than C, even if they are), but if you are not comfortable doing this, you should at least remove any stub assessments and leave it unassessed. Clarendon Tower

Sure, I will tend to Clarendon Tower and get it nom'ed. I was at the airport last night when I saw the news about the 13 June quake; I couldn't believe it. Everyone who was watching the TV monitor was asking if this was "new" news or a re-hash of the earlier quakes as it was hard to believe Christchurch could be hit again. And I thought California was the quake capital. Hope you have a fabulous vacation; China wow!

No, it's a sort of present for a friend from New Zealand who's interested in politics and transparency in government. I started with the Cabinet. Other countries use a template, and I might try doing that. Maybe you could ask each political party for photo releases? They would be more likely to help than parliament, I think. Thank you for your kind welcome, but after my experience with Moriori I am now reconsidering whether there's any point to my spending, or rather wasting, any more time at Wikipedia attempting to contribute to government transparency. There are infinite numbers of other places where I can find arrogant people who delight in smashing rather than building. I'm sure that all of those companies are very notable, but Wikipedia's standards of notability are a bit different than mine or yours. Those articles lack what Wikipedia refers to as "reliable secondary sources," which are the standard by which Wikipedia policy defines notability for companies. Hello Red660, thanks for your message. I've had a look at your contributions history and you appear to be a thorough editor, always keen to ensure that contributions are verifiable and with excellent edit summaries. Top marks! Yes, the Linwood article did look a bit sad, and as I'm just about to embark on writing an article about Linwood House, I put some of the background into the Linwood article itself.

I don't know much about the old Linwood Library (it's on the corner of Worcester Street, though), but what I do know that the building is registered with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust. Their online entry for the building is rather scant, but what you can do is to ask them for a copy of the registration report, and that'll have a lot of info in it. They have an office in Christchurch. As far as the library part of it is concerned, that's documented in great detail on the Christchurch Libraries website. The building would meet notability requirements of Wikipedia, so you could write an article about it. If that's what you want to do, let me know and we'll do it as a team. Script 'cleverness'

I regret the script isn't very clever. The script is written on the assumption that titles are immutable. It doesn't know that that date, situated within a '|title=' field can be changed because it's not in reality part of the title. The implication of it being located within that field is that it is immutable. I see you've corrected it. Church of St Michael and All Angels, Christchurch

I wondered if, with your local knowledge, you can add any support to the statement "The wooden building survived three major earthquakes in 2010/11 almost unscathed and is the only church that remained in use in the central city." I based it solely on the church's website "Since 4 September 2010 our historic Victorian Gothic wooden church has survived three major earthquakes (and thousands of aftershocks) almost unscathed and is the only habitable church in use in the central city." Newspaper reports only seem to support "only Anglican church" (that qualifier "Anglican" may be implicit in the church's website). I've suggested an alternative DYK hook, which may also clarify the importance of timber. -- 202.124.73.243 (talk) 10:06, 9 September 2011 (UTC)

I'm afraid that it will be true. I can't think of any other church (that still is a church) within the 4 Aves other than St Michael that's still going. Knox, the Basilica, St Lukes and the Durham Street Methodist Church are all outside of the red zone, and they have in common that they are munted. Inside the red zone are the ChristChurch Cathedral (stuffed), Oxford Terrace Baptist Church (demolished), St Paul's (demolished), St John (looking pretty munted). Then there's the Rose Historic Chapel (red stickered), which I'm not sure that they were still using as a church, and the Nurses Memorial Chapel (yellow stickered). The Trinity Church has been a restaurant and music venue for many years now, but is also history. The only building that looks fine (at least from the outside) is St Saviour's, but I'm guessing that it belongs to Cathedral Grammar School (it got relocated from Lyttelton many years ago). Can't think of anything else. As you see, it's not looking that pretty. If you are looking for another article to write, Trinity Church would be interesting for its recent history as a music performance venue. It was a real delight to go there. Sorry about the edit conflict. As far as I can tell, several Pentecostal churches within the 4 avenues continued operating. Hi Grutness, yes, happy to help. There are several issues:

• Somebody has already been in there and removed an alleged copyvio. I haven't checked, but you obviously need to write text in your own words and can't use text from a source that is not in the public domain (DNZB bios are copyrighted).
• You need inline references for each paragraph.

Historic Masters DYK - thank you

I'd like to thank you very much for your thoughtful work in reviewing and monitoring my DYK nomination for the Historic Masters record label. As you gathered, this was my first DYK nomination experience and I found the review process, as guided by you, pleasantly instructive. I was intrigued to see my preference for an appropriate hook gradually change over the course of a few days. I feel the eventual hook — Did you know that Historic Masters is a vinyl record label which continues to issue rare 78 rpm opera discs on a regular basis? — was a valid choice as it spotlighted an unusual form of cultural productivity that many may not be aware exists (I note the article attracted just over two thousand hits during the DYK time slot, which I suppose isn't too bad for a niche interest). Earthquake magnitudes

I'm new to editing wikipedia so apologise for the "minor edits" mistake. But I do think the magnitude of the ChCh quakes should be changed to USGS measurements for the following reasons: ) Apples to Apples. When we hear of a quake elsewhere in the world -- the devastating 7.0 quake in Haiti for instance -- it is almost without exception USGS measurements that are quoted by the media or on wikipedia or in any other source. 2) The Gold Standard. The USGS measurements are considered the gold standard for earthquake measurements by scientists around the world. 3) Distance Helps. The New Zealand measurements must be better because they were taken closer to the earthquake, right? Sounds good. But actually, the closer the measurements are taken to the center of an earthquake, the more prone the measurements are to distortions caused by the event itself. Usually this results in an exaggerated measure taken closer to the event, although occassionally the opposite can be true. That's why the USGS uses a combination of measures.
