Second opinion on edit revert wanted edit

I got a notification about this edit: https://en.wikipedia.wantedorg/w/index.php?title=Socialism_in_New_Zealand&diff=next&oldid=1098681106&diffmode=source

The link it adds to the See also section seams to be unrelated to the article, but I want to get a second opinion before reverting it. CoderThomasB (talk) 10:21, 3 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

It’s unrelated and I’ve already reverted it, CoderThomasB. If it gets added again, please revert it and start a discussion on the article's talk page, inviting the other editor to provide their rationale. Schwede66 15:47, 3 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

User:S20105066 edit

Hi Schwede66, User:Giantflightlessbirds suggested I get in touch with you for advice on a banned vandal and sock-puppeteer User:S201050066, who was banned in 2022 for edit warring and sock puppeteering over the various Timeline of the COVID-19 pandemic pages. S201050066 is autistic and can be volatile. I was previously in contact with him via Facebook Messenger but blocked him late last month after he boasted about having 100 sockpuppet accounts and threatening to disrupt Wikipedia unless his ban is lifted. I have also been in contact with S201050066's older brother Ian, who is aware of his younger brother's misbehaviour online. Ian has recently spoken with S201050066 and found that his younger brother was unrepentant and had reiterated his threat to use sockpuppets to disrupt Wikipedia. Ian has advised retaining the IP ban on S201050066 and blocking any IP addresses that his brother gets hold off. Was wondering if I should report S21050066's sockpuppet threat to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents? Andykatib (talk) 11:33, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • I forgot to mention that S201050066 has so far not committed any sockpuppet activities since August 2022. I am not sure if he is just making empty threats but thought that we need to vigilant in case he returns in the future. Andykatib (talk) 11:39, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Kia ora Andykatib, I hope you had a relaxing break over Easter. Regarding S201050066, it depends. Who knows whether it's true that there's socking going on. If you see it happening, it should be reported at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations. Given that the user is already banned, I'm not sure what a report at ANI would achieve. The only real issue might be if you feel harassed; that's when asking for advice at ANI might be useful. If there is ongoing vandalism at any of the COVID articles, let me know and I can protect them. Schwede66 22:17, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hi Schwede66, thanks so much for getting back in touch. Will keep an eye on the COVID-19 timeline pages. So far, it's been pretty quiet on that front but will let you know if things changed. I have blocked the user on Facebook Messenger so I haven't had problems with harassment. Ian has been helpful to me and it's good to have him on my side when managing his younger brother. Change on the Hook edit

Hallo, what happened with the change of the hook on the main page? Sorry for the question, but this is the first time I have done something like this....Bye Alex2006 (talk) 08:46, 12 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Can you be more specific, Alessandro57? Which hook are you asking about? Schwede66 08:58, 12 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
The one currently on the main page about the pizza. ;-) You gave green light to change on DYK/Errors, the other admin asked you to change it, then nothing happened so far. :-) Alex2006 (talk) 09:02, 12 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

NZ docs update edit

Hi Schwede66 and DrThneed, and thanks for the advice on "No Bombs South of the Line". I got a response from the library about a week ago, they were able to scan the pamphlet for me, super cool! I just caught some three year old vandalism on a related article. It's a shame it remained for so long, but gone now. Anyways, I really appreciate the quick and helpful responses. Serious harassment concern edit

Im at my wits end with trying to get https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Soetermans to permanently leave me alone. I want him to stop messaging me but he wants to keep messaging me. It started as little edit warring which I thought resolved nicely because I was happy with the current edit of a mediator. Except the issue didn't resolve because Soetermans switched to full harassment. The evidence is on my talk page. I deleted 4 of his messages then left a notice please no more messages. But he continues. Also while editing Dark and Darker. I got falsely accused of using unreliable spam link as ref... except I used de facto gaming website SteamDB which is more accurate and reliable than Wikipedia, because it's raw numbers database. My main concern is the harassment though. There is no block or report function on this website? If not I request a modest block for him. Just not too short please. Something like a month or two would give him time to forget about me I hope. Thank you for your help. Netherleash (talk) 11:04, 16 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Netherleash, please post the above at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents; I'm off to bed now. Schwede66 11:05, 16 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Request comment edit

Hi @Schwede66! I hope you've been doing well since our recent GAR interaction on Abel Tasman Monument. I saw your reply to autopatrolled request and thought it'd be easier to reply here, if you don't mind. While I obviously appreciate and respect your assessment, I need to admit I was a bit surprised (embarrassed?) to see there were BLPs of mine without links to birthdates. I usually try to be quite vigilant about this, so I'd like to think of these as an oversight rather than standard practice, though I am grateful that you have pointed it out.

Other than WP:SUR, an important but easy fix, what else would you say needs to be done before re-applying? I take great care when creating new content, which I hope the majority of my contributions makes evident. I am in no rush, of course, though autopatrolled will certainly come in handy (this is entirely my observation, but it does appear that there aren't that many active reviewers with a focus on WP:VISUALARTS, so it sometimes takes a while before these are reviewed). Thanks so much for your time, as always. Ppt91talk 20:28, 16 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ppt91, the two issues I listed were it. I wouldn't want to step out of line by handing out autopatrolled below the agreed limit when there were remaining issues, even if they are easy to get on top of for you. Maybe go through your bios and fix any dates of birth and DEFAULTSORT, and keep the diffs. Then write another couple of bios with referenced birth dates and submit again, including the diffs to demonstrate that you've taken the feedback in. That should do it, I would think. And yes, I noticed the visual arts articles and can imagine that there aren't that many active reviewers in that space. Feel free to ping me when you move them into article space and I'll take a look (prior you obtaining autopatrolled). Schwede66 20:42, 16 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Schwede66 Thank you! That makes sense and I'll do as you're suggesting before reapplying in the future. :-) Ppt91talk 20:59, 16 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Clarifying Autopatrolled Request + Translations edit

Hi there @Schwede66,

I wanted to follow up on the "autopatrolled" request that was denied by you. Specifically, I wanted to ask if translations can fulfill this requirement. Some of the translations I've done were marked as "reviewed" without any problems, and others were marked with the "notability" tag (probably because I didn't bring over everything from the other Wikipedias I did the translation from). Basically, I'm wondering whether or not translations count as a "new page" and if they can count toward that required article count. Obviously the notability tag is still there and I'm working to not have that, but I am learning.

And just to clarify: I'm not making a renewed request for the permission at this time. I'm just asking whether or not translations can count toward it and would help me get the permission in the future. Thanks in advance for your reply. Losipov (talk) 19:18, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Yes, translations count. But numbers are much less important than quality. If your articles get tagged, that’s a disqualifying issue. Schwede66 19:22, 22 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

That's all good, StarTrekker. Even if you had known that it was on the Main Page, you may not have known about WP:MPNOREDIRECT. Speedy deletion nomination of Kaituna River (disambiguation) edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Kaituna River (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. NmWTfs85lXusaybq (talk) 05:42, 4 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

An easy fix is to turn one of the red links blue, NmWTfs85lXusaybq. I've done so. Schwede66 06:34, 4 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Tēnā koe, Jevansen. It's super-annoying when scripts misbehave or don't quite have the right functionality. It's good to know that's the source of the problem (and it certainly isn't a major problem). Schwede66 05:19, 6 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Anne Salmond (architect) edit

Hello,

Thanks for the reverting the "Anne Salmond (historian)" article back to its former state. I'd made a stub article on "Anne Salmond (architect)", which was 'live' when those other changes were been made. The article, though was completely unreferenced(!), so not surprisingly it was moved to Draft:Anne_Salmond_(architect). I've been working on improving the draft - and hope to finish that this weekend - and will then submit it for review. Cheers, Aerohydro (talk) 07:02, 16 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023 edit

Hello Schwede66,

New Page Review queue April to June 2023

Backlog

Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.

Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.

Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.

You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.

Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

June 2023 edit

Hello Schwede66, I have a query regarding adding new destinations in airport articles. For the last few days, I am constantly noticing that an unauthorised user is removing the edits, including a few others too, stating that they are not 'official' sources and that the airline itself has not announced anything on new destinations. But, you see, when we are adding the destinations with valid and official sources published by one of the agencies of Network18 Group, Moneycontrol, without which we could not have been able to add the destinations had that agency not published the news report, that to also directly stating about the announcement of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (India) (DGCA), still that unauthorised user is reverting the edits. We all know here that whatever is added on Wikipedia needs a valid source for verification. Even after giving frequent warnings to that user, 202.134.183.23, stating not to disrupt and vandalize even after adding valid citations, still it seems that there is no effect on that user. This user has done frequent vandalism and disruptions in the past too. Even when a user warned him that he has been notified to the admins for his vandalism, it was of no use. So, now, there is no room to give the user any more chances except to block him. I request you to take action at the earliest and help stop these type of people from further disrupting and vandalizing Wikipedia. Thanks. Altoumulus (talk) 05:46, 21 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
