File Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Diacria Index Map.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. ZooFari 00:13, 29 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

edit

FYI: Image credits do not belong in articles. Please do not add them to articles, like you did on Geology of Mars. Image credits belong on the file description page - not the articles themselves. SchuminWeb (Talk) 00:28, 25 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please use edit summaries

edit

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Before saving your changes to an article, please provide an edit summary, which you forgot to do before saving your recent edit to Geology of Mars. Doing so helps everyone to understand the intention of your edit (and prevents legitimate edits from being mistaken for vandalism). It is also helpful to users reading the edit history of the page. Thank you. - Brianhe (talk) 01:22, 28 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

WikiProjects Moon and Mars activity

edit

Hello there! As part of an effort to determine how many active editors are present in the space-related WikiProjects, some changes have been made to the lists of members of WikiProject Moon (here) and Mars (here). If you still consider yourself to be an active editor either of these projects, it would be appreciated if you would please edit the list so that your name is not struck out - thus a clearer idea of the number of active editors can be determined. Many thanks in advance!

Image tagging for File:Dark Pits ESP 019997 1975 RED.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Dark Pits ESP 019997 1975 RED.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from or who created it. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

To add this information, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Hi Tom,

Just wanted to say thanks for your feedback on my article! If you get the chance, could you possibly run your eye over Valley networks (Mars) as well? It's been sat there for quite a while, and on the "request a second look" page, but thus far still has its unreviewed article tag. It would be good to get a second opinion! I feel like I wasn't as clear at the end as I could have been...

Thanks again for the feedback!

Enipeus Vallis

edit

Tom - I think you're right about Enipeus; it's just that abstract and map by Moore that's out there. I wondered initially if this might be because of a second name, but I can't find anything else either (it's still Enipeus V. on Google Mars, for example). My instinct is that it's an outflow channel which is exploiting graben structure in it's lower reaches (and upper??), but that's NPOV! Just say that Carr maps it as a valley network, but make it clear it isn't widely described, I guess.

[Just goes to show the level of muddled thinking that can and has snuck into the literature about martian flow features, really - classification is not the answer, IMHO!]

File permission problem with File:Alba Valley Network 243 45.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Alba Valley Network 243 45.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 23:58, 13 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

You previously expressed concerns about the "Age of Mars" section in Water on Mars. I would like to see this article cleaned up, so any further recommendations would be helpful. On the talk page, you said the entire section should be removed. Is that still the case? Viriditas (talk) 07:30, 5 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

File source problem with File:Olympus Mons M9 PIA02999.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Olympus Mons M9 PIA02999.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. File:Mc3 mola.pdf missing description details

edit
Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as:

is missing a description and/or other details on its image description page. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors make better use of the image, and it will be more informative to readers.

If the information is not provided, the image may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

Amazonian

edit

Hi Schaffman. Just wanted to let you know that I've just repurposed Amazonian as a stub about the Martian period. (It was formerly a crappy redirect to Amazon DAB). Given I noticed you have been largely responsible for getting Noachian and Hesperian up to good quality, I thought I'd drop you a personal note. I'll try to improve the thing at some point, but I'm under the cosh at work right now so progress might be sporadic. If you wanted to, your input would be most welcome. No worries if not though. Thanks! DanHobley (talk) 06:22, 21 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of File:Hesperia Planum Labeled.jpg

edit

The file File:Hesperia Planum Labeled.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unused. No direct link to source. Also I doubt this is licensed GFDL.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
